IIRC, there is a lot of character / action / combat / super-hero / fantasy / SciFi material available for M3/M4 and V3/V4 that hasn't migrated to later 'Poser' figures.
Xurge, famous for their fantasy armour, are still briskly designing for M4/V4. HeroineFactory still does many Japanese Anime 'Ultra' figures, again for M4/V4...
Although EE's 'CrossDresser', using valid licences, will port outfits from such 'classic' figures to Poser's own, I've had limited 'fitting' success: YMMV...
I think part of the problem is that there was too long a hiatus without a Poser 'show-stopper' figure to supersede V3/V4. Okay, LaF is nice, and I've collected a lot of 'useful' outfits. But, if I want 'unusual', either I load and dress V3/V4, or I look around for a game-style XPS or Garry'sMod/SFM figure and port that to rigged FBX, complete with props and costume...

I port clad-figures and props to Poser from a range of different formats found on DS, DA, BowlRoll etc etc.
There's an excellent thread on Rendo' forums for getting DS 'Gen' figures into Poser. Inspired by that, I've ported a then-free, sassy 'Gen_7' character who may have escaped from a 'StarWars' prequel...
Some DS props, 'under the lid', are legacy Poser format, others may be exported from DS as OBJ+MTL.
Similarly, 'MikoMikoDance' (MMD) X and PMX props and scenes may be exported from DA's free PMX_Editor as OBJ+MTL.
Several 'gotchas': MMD coordinate system is reversed wrt OBJ, so mesh exports are 'mirrored'. Though PMX_Editor has a 'mirror' tool, matching up mapped textures can be 'interesting'. These textures and their calls may be 'many', and in Asian glyphs. Unpack such using eg free Bandizip lest you get 'Dipthong Soup'. Google Translate is handy...
Rigged MMD figures other than TDA-type ('No Port' T&C) may be ported to Poser-compatible rigged FBX using TrueBones' $$ utility: As yet, seems unable to convert texture calls, which must be hand-applied. Not a problem, unless 'many'...
XPS props and scenes may be directly exported from free XNA/Lara Editor as OBJ+MTL. Scaling varies widely, finding model is often 'interesting'...
Rigged XPS figures may be exported from XNA/Lara Editor in rigged .MESH.ASCII format, which free Noesis can convert to rigged FBX. If you get many sub-rigs, parent second and subsequent to first ASAP, warily place and pose using first. Again, Scaling varies widely...
As XPS figures often have multiple clothing / accessory options, some sub-rigs may be safely deleted, reducing Poser scene complexity, increasing stability...
Note XPS 'Mods' are like 'Morphs', which cannot be ported unless base mesh is included...
SFM meshes and textures per 'MLP' and 'Garry's Mod' may be extracted by free Noesis, exported to OBJ+MTL or FBX. As textures are extracted separately to meshes, you must hand-apply them. IMHO, 'MLP' eye-mapping is often 'weird': Due Care, Please ??

There's also the issue of graphic file type, as some up-scale much better than others, pixelate less...
FWIW, using a 'UV UnWrap' program is often exasperating, as may prove very difficult to match existing mapped texture. Some are 'accessible', others are variously 'optimised', different sections docked like 'Tetris' to minimise 'empty' space. Worse, zones may be 'smudge painted', confounding your attempts to identify detail...
This is less a problem for 'native' Poser items than 'ports': eg Identifying an imported but minimally grouped OBJ or FBX vehicle's lights, mirrors, glazing etc so you can mask physical properties may be trivial or require an iterative hunt. A 'binary chop' of such mapped textures will eventually find the needful, too often tucked away obscurely...

FWIW, due 'post-middle-aged-eyetis', I prefer 350x350 folder thumb-nails...

Care: Until system is updated, you can only apply one 'gift certificate' per basket.
I got caught thus trying to apply two $_50 to 11/13 upgrade...
Shrugged, bought some short-dated sale goodies with second $_50, must spend remaining 2 @ $_10 before end of August...

Thank you.
FWIW, given Rendo's new, less generous system for earning reward points, I doubt I could make the same mistake again...
But, hey, still much better than your rival's clunky system, as their points expire after a month...
Thread: Some Bad News, Some Good News | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thank you.
I got the news via email, managed to grab the 11/13 upgrade after a hasty hunt for my registration code...
I'll probably not install or use #13 before late autumn due 'Real Life' priorities, but will be interesting to compare eg scene render speeds while I very-slowly learn my way around the Cycles UI...
Thread: An Absolute Beginner At Modeling Looking For Recommendations | Forum: New Poser Users Help
Just be aware that, as yet, Poser morphs are linear between as-is and target.
This only becomes a 'gotcha' if the 'morphed' part should be turned instead...
( MMD models, PMX format, do allow curved morphs, but they use a very different geometry system... )
Thread: Rigging trouble | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Some months back, the forum gurus kindly explained that Poser morphs are linear, so the 'hinged' item I used as morph target would fare badly beyond small-ish angles.
Needed a different approach...
Thread: DSON Importer for Poser 13 | Forum: Poser 13
snark:
I was being polite about Daz Studio...

FWIW, its UI still gives me a prompt migraine.
Upside, after several complaints, they've managed to stop claiming budget legacy products trawled from their archives still have templates available via their forum: Either templates are shown as a product down-load, or not at all.....
Thread: DSON Importer for Poser 13 | Forum: Poser 13
DSON seems to be dead. And, DAZ have no 'business imperative' to update it, they must feel they have established a sufficiently independent ecosystem...
A work-around is to export clad figure from DS as FBX, which arrives rigged and posable, albeit with umpteen sub-rigs.
( Position / Pose using first sub-rig, 'parent' all the others to this without delay as, IMHO, Poser prefers 'uncluttered'... )
This work-flow was inspired by an excellent exposition on Rendo's forums.

I'm hesitant about #13.
#12 took out much of the simple stuff from material room. Sadly, I struggle with 'Cycles'. Like Calculus, I can see the power and beauty, I just cannot work it beyond simplest.
Yes, #13 has the compatibility with wondrous GPU cards. Happens I run a network-render 'Box' in parallel with my #11, partly because adequately upgrading even one of my now-ageing twin GPU cards would have been prohibitively expensive. Literally, I built entire, future-proof 'Box' for less than a GPU card which would already be superseded...
#13 does not have the 'engineering console' I crave to keep track of Poser's internals, and many of #13's admittedly wondrous features are simply no use to me...
Has been said that I use #11 as a sorta 'P4 on steroids'...
