Thank you for your reply. It is very helpful! Can either of you tell me approximately how long the Home Page took to load? What about the Specials Page? We're still working to get the load time down as much as possible and still show images of our products in Poser. Thanks again. Cheers! PamThread: Carousel Special - A Post for Dial-up Users... Would one of you kind dial-up users mind trying our site to see if the load time has gotten better for you? We're really working on this and never meant to make you crabby or insane... as I know it would me if I had dial-up. (I understand!) The heaviest/worst load page will be our Poser Home Page, so that's what I'd to test if you wouldn't mind. Thanks a Zillion!
Pam

I know! I really need a router and firewall BADLY. Tom's just crapped out and he's a nervous wreck now that I have this thing. Can't blame him, but I told him to start updating his back-up just in case. I am stuck though since I am unable to install or download anything from the Borton site. I'll have to call Symantec tomorrow. (Wonder what that will cost!?) I have a year subscription with Norton, but calls regarding infected systems are not free. :( Just when we though we could keep our Poser models prices low! (Kidding! lol ;) XO-All! Pam Thanks you guys. How about that luck of mine, huh? G'night! Pam

You're a STUS, Sandoppe! That sounds EXACTLY like what it wrong with my sustem and makes complete sense and is right in line with the quirky (CRIPPLING, actually) things I am experiencing. I was just in my Program Manager a minute ago and noticed at the bottom of the page (where all of my programs USED TO TO BE LISTED but have now been replaced with a big empty white space in that box, as I mentioned previously) that the Close button now reads: Cl&ose. Hmmmm, NOT GOOD! THANK YOU SO MUCH for taking the time to help me and explain all of this. I DO have Symantec Norton 2003 and a year subscription but am unable to accessor download. FOrtunately, I have the disk and will reinstall it but I don't know if this will be a remedy if I can't get the most recent update. I better just go read how to clean this.. but I'd sure like to kow which one I have. These sadistic people who create these things are terrorists, aren't they. What could make a person angry enough to be this vicious... what's more scary is how many there are out there! It's not like it's a a small handful of people creating thewe things out there. And it's not like I'm MCI Worldcom, ya' know? We're just a tiny company who has been making 3D stuff for a living for the past decade. Oh well. In any event, I need to find out how to Pamenate the darned thing now and it's a tricky task when I can't access any downloadable updates. Sandoppe, You are so kind to take the time to help me out here. I REALLY APPRECIATE IT (You'll see, Mister!) But do you have any idea how I could go about checking those portals (33 & 34) you mention to see what's going on? This is getting into a technical area that I know very little about. The knowlege base of so many people here on these forums just blows me away sometimes. Whenever I encounter a problem in an area I know NOTHING about, I "own up!" Better that than to "Remove all doubt". Another old adage I believe in is "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing"... so since I am in that area right now, I figured it might be best to come to where I know I can get some solid information. You certainly seem knowledgable/well versed in this arena. Hopefully this knowledge was derived through reading about it rather than first hand experience. ;/ Okay, I just tried to re-install my Norton 2003 disk and the Windows Installer is disabled. I can't download even teh virus defsinitions, let alone a patch or update toclean whatever it is I have. I can't even reinstall my AV program! This is all too reminiscent of what I went through with that Klez virus/worm a year and a half I got. These guys think of EVERYTHING!!! Terrorists, I swear to God! I'll keep you posted. Thanks again. Pam

No, I don't have a Dell. But what a bummer about THAT deal, huh? Ya' just can't trust anything these days... and why I fuly understood when people were nervous about our whether or not our server was secure. All is well there, but I completely understood their concerns. Wish me luck! Pam I just this minute got that svc host.exe has generated errors and will be shut down message.... just this minute. :( Phooey!

Great to hear Cherokee! I had written a note to post last night when I got home (After I resent your download info.) but I found that I no longer had the basic (but crucial)cut/copy and paste function. It seems to be non-existent on my OS.
I immediately went to my Norton Anti Virus program to download live update to scan my system for a potential virus/worm (which I do AT LEAST every Friday when I do a full virus scan) but got an error message: "LU1803 unable to dowload at this time".
I then went into my e-mail and was unable to send or EVEN CREATE a mail doc. All I got was an error message: "not enough memory". (NOT Virtual Memory, mind you.. MEMORY!) Since I had nothing else open on my system but OE6, I knew that was impossible. So...
Since my hard disk is getting pretty close to it's full capacity, I thought I might do a little house cleaning then at least defrag my system (which I do about every 1-2 weeks.) Well, when I went to my Program Manager to see what I might be able to live without (remove) it opened a big empty box for me! Isn't that special? All my programs are still on my system, I'm just not able to uninstall anything. The first sign or weridness started yesterday. I got an error message that I'd NEVER SEEN before, and that was not specific to any program I happened to be in, OR EVEN KNOW OF! This occurred periodically throughot the day, but was very random. It didn't matter if I was in Photoshop, MS Word, OE6 e-mail, it just showed up and read: svc host.exe has generated errors and will be shut down. It didn't always necessarily shut down the program I was in either. But the thing that bothers me most about it is that I have no idea what svc host even is?!?!? Anyone know? It feels like a virus to me, reminiscent of the Klez virus I got a long time ago.... so I'm freaking out a little. I can't even get anything to download from the Symantec site, nor can I give an accurate report to Symantec since the form they have you fill out has drop down menus to select from and ALL of these boxes are blank! I'm hitting a wall with every turn.
I was able to run a chkdsk /f from the dos promt... and that helped. For about 5 minutes I was at least able to cut and paste. But that soon went away.
I'd appreciate ANY info that might help me here. I'm feeling a little crippled and I don't get it"... I'm so good about "wearing protection"! ;(
Thanks Guys!
Pam

Thank Echo871! I know what it is now... Our web (hits, et al.) tracking. It shouldn't be giving our home page an error though. We built our site.. that's why I was so puzzled. I will have to investigate further, now that I know where the problem lies. Thanks for your help! That's exactly what I needed to know. Cheers! Pam

Gratzi, all. I'm certainly glad to hear this, but we are stil getting an error message (shows up down in the status bar) on our Home Page. Anyone know what that's about? Can anyone look at it maybe (our source code or something) to try to see what the problem is? Thanks! pg
