No, we've not heard any more. I suspect that the poster on DAZ was correct--the virus was actually picked up on another site, but was set up to activate several clicks later, which made it look like it came from the 3DSC site.

In checking things out, the Rendo freebies are also hosted by 3D Sara Creations. I found that the location of the files had been changed by the host site, so users trying to download the files would have received an error message of "Page not found". Any virus problems are unrelated to these files, as the files weren't even available through the Rendo link at the point in time when this claim was made. I've updated the link to the files, so they are again available through Rendo.

Thanks for the heads up, Helen. I'm not sure what's going on with the Rendo free stuff, since those files are hosted by Rendo. My freebie files on other sites are hosted by Sara 3D Creations, and everything should be OK there. Please rest assured that my files are NOT uploaded with any type of virus.

I can buy a LOT of plug-ins before I get anywhere close to spending as much on D|S as I would for P6. I wouldn't have paid for Power Pose, since I don't use IK. The nice thing is, you can pick and choose which features you want and keep the cost down that way. You also start with a great free program and can add a bit at a time, rather than laying a big chunk out of your budget at one shot for something that has alot of features you may never use. As far as rendering quality, I can do far better in less time with 3Delight than I've ever done with Firefly. I do all of my promo renders in D|S.

It's needed if you ever use the "Search" feature, so I tend to recommend it to new users. Otherwise, when they later try to use "Search", it won't work.

I'd suggest creating a "Poser Content" directory for Poser content storage and unzip/install your Poser content files there. You'll also need to save a dummy poser.exe file there, so DAZ|Studio can find it. Just open NotePad, save a poser.txt file, then rename it poser.exe . To get the new content to show up in your Content pane, go to Edit>Preferences and click on the Directories tab. Click on the pull down menu that says "DAZ Content directories" and choose "Poser Content directories". You can then either browse to your Poser Content directory using the "Add" button, or allow D|S to search for it using the "Search" button.
Thread: DAZ|Studio 0_9_28_1_RC, slow loading characters. | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Someone discovered a workaround for this, until the fixed version is released--once you've started loading, just minimize D|S until the item is loaded. You'll get something much closer to the expected load time for a figure, rather than the 5+ minutes that we're seeing with D|S maximized while loading. I suspect it's something with the OpenGL preview that's gone hinky.

Thread: Background image problem | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Rather than importing it as an image, import a plane object with the same proportions as the grid image, and apply the grid image as a surface texture. You can then scale the plane object to the desired size.

I have both P5 and D|S, and IMHO, even this long after P5's "final release" version, D|S is less buggy. Maybe it's how it performs in the hands of any given user?

???D|S isn't a modelling program. AFAIK, there are not plans to add any modelling components to it. That's like asking if anyone wants to model something in P6.

As far as I know, it's only Bryce that's a problem because it uses D|S as part of the system. It's not like DAZ|Studio is corrupting other files on anyone's system. If one doesn't have Bryce, it's really not an issue to consider.
Thread: Daz Studio or Poser 5 | Forum: DAZ|Studio
The problem with native content has been repaired; I can't speak to the Bryce issue because I don't use it. I'm not sure why there's an issue of free vs. upgrade here. Why not have both? You can easily use D|S with most Poser content (except for the dynamic stuff). I've found it much easier to do production quality renders with D|S than P5. However, someone who's used Poser exclusively might not find that to be the case. If you've got the spare cash, go for P6. If not, give D|S a try. No reason to wait.

I would try out D|S first, since it's free; you can always go out and buy P6 afterwards, if you find it "unreliable". Of course, it's always easy to spend someone else's money. ;)
