Clicking on that will give you a choice to optimize for size.
Note: this is on CS5, but I’m fairly sure it’s in the same place on CS4.

Thread: BIG CS5 problem :( | Forum: Photoshop
It does sound like you trashed some of the system fonts in your clean up effort.
What you might try before going the reformat route; is go to another computer running the same OS and copy all the fonts from the WindowsFont folder on to a flash drive.
Boot your box into “Safe Mode” and drop those fonts back into your Font folder, and then reboot.
Thread: (OT) I think HP made a big Boo Boo!! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
“Any suggestions on what I can delete?”….
Not sure of everything they install on the little netbooks, but really anything in the “Uninstall a program” control panel that says HP,( like HP easy access, HP updater, HP Power plan, Help, Document reader, etc).
A lot of trial versions of games (which includes some software called “Tagent”).
The trial version of Norton….ditto what Robyn just said!
Trial versions of Microsoft Office stuff.
HP installs a lot of software from CyberLink which is for burning and playing DVD’s.
Since Windows 7 Starter doesn’t come with Windows Media Player or codec’s, unless you have something better, you’ll probably want to keep that.
If you set your folder options to see hidden files, you will see a folder under C:/ named "HP".
That contains backups of all the drivers and software installers for everything HP put on your computer, so that gives you a “reinstall safety net”.

Acadia,
There is nothing for you to worry about since the tech guy saw Windows 7 is activated and the “Genuine” label… (your legit).
That “easy access’ thingy that is telling you otherwise is just one of many HP installed useless bloat-ware.
I just purchased a Compaq notebook last week and love it, but not until I uninstalled the extra HP stuff.
To fix your lid closing problem (which also annoyed me), click on the little battery icon in the lower right of the taskbar.
Choose “more power options”, and in that window you can set what happens when you close the lid, sleep (which is what it is doing now), shut down, or do nothing.

Go to the site I linked to, and have a conversion chart generated for your f-stop.Then you will need to make a new chart for each film you use, that factor in that individual film’s reciprocity failure.
If you are going to use B&W film, use Ifords HP5 as it needs very little adjustment for reciprocity failure, whereas TriX needs a lot (a 15min exposure turns into 1 hour).
I use to do a lot of pinhole photography with a bunch of homebuilt cameras (120, 4x5 and 8x10).
Here is the only one I kept after going digital ….my Pin-o-Flex (hey don’t laugh, it has a viewfinder).

I really like your friend’s work Trekki.
That painted look does a lot more for me than the typical “inking”.
Thanks
Thread: GAH! Help! Any program that'll read old CDs that may have gone bad? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL

I've had very good results recovering old, corrupted/damaged, or bad burns, using "isobuster".As a side note: At an Adobe seminar I went to, the subject of data back-up was discussed.
The experts (guess they were experts as it cost a lot of money to listen to them) was to convert all your files/data to one ISO image and burn that.
And (as BH said), don't try to max out the disk space.

I haven’t purchased anything from Adorama in years, but they do have a fairly good reputation. I wouldn’t read too much into a sales-rep being a bit short on the phone, as you’ll find that at any of the high volume stores.Who I can recommend, with twenty years of experience dealing with them (and never a problem), is B&H Photo.
I see they have the Nikon 55-200mm, new for $179.95 with free shipping.
Note: personally I shy away from “factory refurbished” electronics, humans and lunch-meat.

Thread: uninstalling ONLY x64 | Forum: Photoshop
I understood what you were getting at, and yes it is for the reason that many plugins are not 64-bit compatible (yet).
The problem (for the third-party guys) was CS4 was 64-bit for PC only and not ready for 64-bit Mac users.
They had to wait for CS5 (which supports both 64-bit OS’s) to see what they had to work with for their recompiling.
As a side note: My personal opinion is that maybe around PS CS7, Adobe won’t even offer Photoshop in a 32-bit version.
They are already moving that way with both the new CS5 versions of After Effects and Premier Pro being only 64-bit.
Oh… and sorry to hear about your unsuccessful uninstall attempt.
Adobe products do such a deep system install, that when you mess around with them, they commit Hara-kiri.

Thread: uninstalling ONLY x64 | Forum: Photoshop
No, you can’t uninstall just PS 64-bit in the normal way (aka: programs/uninstall).
I did see if just temporarily deleting the folder containing the 64-bit version had any ill effects.
Photoshop CS5 32-bit and Bridge did open and run as usual, BUT that is not to say some problem can or will appear later on down the line.
My advice is to just keep the64-bit version on.
It’s not Photoshop that is being redundant, but the third-party plugin makers dragging their heels.
In the near future, most of the major players (Nik, onOne, etc.) will have compiled their plugins for 64-bit, and you really want to take full advantage of that.

Thread: Importing Fonts | Forum: Photoshop
Adobe’s CS4 products now install their fonts in the same location as the system fonts in Win7, which is: C:WindowsFonts.
So just drop your fonts in that folder and you will be good to go.
Note: If you go snooping around your computer files, you may find fonts in: Program FilesCommon FilesAdobeSavedFontscurrent.
Disregard those as they are older fonts that are not in use.
As per the “read me” in that folder…..
“Adobe Font Installer- Moved Fonts Notice
The Adobe product installer has installed new fonts. It found 29 older versions of these fonts already installed in the same location. The new fonts are installed in:
C:WindowsFonts
The older versions were de-installed, and moved to:
C:Program FilesCommon FilesAdobeSavedFontscurrent
You can re-install the older fonts by removing the new files, and moving the old files back into the directory:
C:WindowsFonts”
Hope that helps,
Chuck

Thread: Printing in cmyk, help please. | Forum: Photoshop
It’s very likely that you shouldn’t be converting to CMYK in the first place.
Most labs use printers that do the conversion of RGB to CMYK in their own printer’s software/Rip (Epson, HP, Fuji, etc.).
Sending in a CMYK file that the printer software converts again to print CMYK becomes a very dull ugly mess.
Unless you are sending your file to a large commercial offset printer (which requires a CMYK file to create color separations), send a RGB file.

Thread: Cheapest RAW format camera | Forum: Photoshop
Attached Link: http://howto.wired.com/wiki/Supercharge_Your_Camera_with_Open-Source_CHDK_Firmware#Play_Around
Yea… if you want a P&S that shoots Raw out of the box, you are looking at around $500.00 for a “high end” consumer Point& Shoot. For that price you can get a fully featured entry level DSLR plus kit lens or one of those large sensor EVIL cameras (like the Olympus E-PL1).However there is a much cheaper alternative.
You can find the little Canon PowerShot cameras very cheap at places like Staples, Best Buy, etc.
They are pretty good cameras to start with, but with an open source firmware hack (CHDK, aka... Canon Hacker's Development Kit), they get a lot of added functions, like shooting in Raw, long time exposures, live histograms, etc.
Check out the link for more info, and a list of Canon cameras that you can do this with.
