Thread: $300 Wasted...? | Forum: Poser Technical
Hi! As Blacksteel said, Vicky is an "advanced" character... that means she's like a fancy car that you only take to shows. For learning the basics of Poser, you might want to use "Posette." She's the one called "P4 Nude Woman" in the "People" Library right out of the box. While she isn't as "realistic" as Vicky, she's basically the "family car" who requires little maintenance and has a LOT of free stuff for you to customize her with... After you're used to Morph Targets, posing, Conforming her clothing, etc, THEN you might be able to use Vicky the way you'd like. BTW, I'm in my 3rd(?) year of using Poser 4 and STILL have yet to get vicky to look like I want her to! All in all, Poser itself ISN'T a waste, it's just that you overloaded a little on the "options packages". Keep plugging away, keep asking questions (or just "lurk" until you find where someone else already asked yours!) and HAVE FUN! Starlok...

jb, As I heard it, Robin "the" Hood was the actual moniker attributed to him that was shortened as time went on... much as Richard the Lion-Hearted became Richard Lionheart in some retellings. It was a descriptive that became a sort of Surname. Pick, pick, Pick! Annoying, aren't I? Typical American! Regarding "Magic Lantern"... ...Someone's been into the "Magic Mushrooms!" Ahhh, Democracy: Government by the Lowest Common Denominator! If you DO choose to comment, and I'd love to hear it, Let me know if you start up a thread (it'd probably go over into C&D and I rarely go there because I have trouble finding my way out under my own power!) jp, Pretty much... I was just concerned with the lumping of Linux/OpenSource with the thieves and riff-raff. I remember the "good old days" of the PET,TRS-80, Apple ][, and My own personal Holy Grail; the C-64... I remember being one of the first in my school to actually learn how to use Clone and Unguard so that we could actually copy our 5.25' floppies to preserve our investments from the viscissitudes of adolescent carelessness. I suppose that in a way I was one of the "first generation" PC pirates (at least on the home computer front... I don't know how prevalent it was in the non-home computer front). Yes, we DID use the original rationalization that it was cheaper to contribute $5-$10 a person and distribute copies amongst ourselves... but we DID eventually outgrow it by the mid '80's. Mea Culpa... One thing I DO know, however, is that feeling of "All's fair in Love and War" towards the major software publishers. In many, many ways, they have refused to justify the prices that they charge for what are clearly sub-standard and/or defective products. We could go on and on over in Complaint & Debate on the subject of their callous arrogance. I firmly believe that they do more to "encourage" the "Robin the Hood" aspect of the warez providers than one could attribute solely to the "kudos" attitude you described in your post. It will never justify the actual theft, but it WILL make it impossible to convince enough people to work up a sweat to put an end to the practice. I'm afraid that the token efforts on the part of the government on this subject are truly representative of the token concern on the part of the populace as a whole. "Vox Populi, Vox Dei" indeed... Ummm. Did you also check the contract for their ownership rights to your first-born offspring as well? I just love the way those things work!
Thread: Whats so special about the Eve characters? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Evie is my favorite character. The only problem I have with her is trying to get Silver (by maira) proportions on her. While you CAN transfer facial morphs from Posette to Eve, everything below the neck is KAPUT! (to paraphrase Lilly Marlene!)

I had a similar problem when loading (certain) multiple figures which turned out to be caused by something called "crosstalk" between Cr2's. There was a thread on it sometime back. While rebooting DOES work as a temporary fix, it's very depressing to work hard on a scene, load in that final figure, and be missing a head (or in my case, the hip/abdomen) Do a search on "crosstalk" and you'll find a solution for "just in case" it happens again... Is that the only Character study you have to work from? I'm finally getting the hang of AMAPI and would be willing to try my hand at making some shoulder props for you if you could get a close-up and/or series of different angles for scaling purposes... jb, >>"then you need to actually destroy the 'kudos' based mentaility that drives virtually everything in the scene, including the "Open Source"/Linux crowd." While I agree with much of what you said, I would like a clarification... Isn't the OpenSource/Linux thing similar to 'Rosity's "Free Stuff concept? These people are putting out variations on a "free" product in much the same way as we might come up with "Re Maps" for figures and New Textures for Objects... WOuld you classify the individual who gave us OBJAction Mover (for FREE!!!!) as being in the same league as DoD and LoD? Somehow, I don't think that Curious Labs/Daz etc. view him in the same fashion as those who are Cracking Poser and Putting it out there as their version of a "community service" BTW. This is not meant to be read in a "ranting" tone of voice... just wanted to point out something that caught my eye... Starlok

Congratulations, Monsieur! Just one question... Were you credited in the article? I've seen some posts by certain folks which have made me aware of problems in using artists' works without permission... Of course, your "nice surprise" quote let's me know that you don't have any problems... Well Done!
Thread: Changing my default font in Poser | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi! I Had that problem, too. With me it was my "asifont.fon" file getting overwritten or replaced in my Poser4 directory. It's an Adobe(?) font, rather than TrueType... Try Deleting the Adobe fonts (both in Poser4 and your Windows Font Directory) In my case, It happened whenever I tried installing Bryce. If you don't want to risk losing the fonts themselves, try just changing the extensions or moving them to a different folder. If it doesn't work, you can always restore them and ask for further information from one of the experts! Good Luck! Starlok
Thread: Get "Shrugging Man" icon about half the time when saving to library | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I (a non-ProPack user) had similar problems with straight Poser4. Only I got a blank thumbnail rather than "Shrugman" It turned out to be an incompatibility with my graphics card! New graphix card=real thumbnails... Have you changed cards? If you have an old one you upgraded from, maybe you might try swapping it out for a test?

First, I'd like to correct a mis-credit: I was referring to BEBOP's Emily and Cristy textures above (Does PhilC do Characters??? I'll have to do a search... His clothes are great, though!!) Just zipping a greyscale Eyecolor jpg of 3000x3000 (8.5 Megs) gives me a 58k ZipFile (Jpeg compression at Max quality) 1 Increase colordepth to 16M colors 2 Magic wand the iris with the right sensitivity 3 colorize the selection to your heart's content That''s how I get Olive/Brown/Ice/Green characters with Bebop's Emily. Now all you need is a decent looking texture that would resemble a transmap for the Eyebrows, another for various Pubic Hair styles (Heart/Triangle/natural/etc) as your storage/bandwidth allows, and Voila! Cut&Paste the colorized Hair as a new Layer, set the merge settings accordingly (if necessary) and you can get MANY distinctive skins out of one main texture. It's not as easy as my orginal method of a greyscale/filtered skin, but it'll certainly look better tan anything I can do by my own efforts. I also do the Greyscale/colorselect on Kozaburo's Hair textures... I'd GLADLY pay a few dollars for a "collection" of these 'styles' and do my own colorizing for the final effect... The artist might get more mileage out of a characterTex, as well....

Mix equal parts chlorine tablets and common sugar. Fill glass jar 3/4 full. Add 1/8th jar of water. Seal tightly and RUN! Don't breathe fumes... very bad... Last time I did that (with friends in highschool) we did 5lbs each in one of those industrial-sized cardboard containers... you know, the ones that were the size of a waste basket with the clamp-on lids? The lid was so tight thatthe pressure blew out the bottom and launched the whole thing 30 feet up... FUN!
