Big difference is the harddisk, also. Using 2.8 intel (mb also - dont try shuttle as even though you can overclock - is worthless if you need to "count on" your computer to work) with 1g mem, vir mem set to 4096 min and 4096 max and has it's own harddrive with no other programs that run on it that has to do with 3d (currently use p4,p5,bryce,carrera2,autocad2k).
A dual monitor is wonderful; I have my 17" where I keep the hierarchy, properties and animation windows open so I have the 20" main window to do my "views" of characters.
My illustrator, photoshop, flash, director, psp (7 & 8 (8 I use with uvmapper pro)), etc. are screamin' but again - I have a seperate harddrive dedicated to handle all my graphic/movie/music stuff (a little coordination effort on my part).
I upgraded my main video card with agi ati atlantis pro (think mem is 128 (2nd montitor currently using pci matrix graphics MM - dont recommend)) but really didnt notice any difference except when i do movies but it does support 2 monitors on one card. Even with first release of P5, I did not have any problems with this configuration.
I use my old 1.8 with 512meg for Office stuff. Also, if you can get a deal on xpPro instead of xpHome - you will have a lot better os. But if you have old version of mimic (1) or dance studio or old games - you cannot run on ntsf disk format.
If you are using/attempting to use P5 - would suggest another disk that stores multiple runtimes (ie: people runtime directory, toons/animals runtime directory, etc) for your characters/actors. Mine brings up the different directories rapidly when I switch runtimes.
I have bought approximately 20+ computers for clients and myself from: http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/ and not had any great problems from clients or with my own (have 4 of them running since p3 450 currently on my home network).
Guess that is all I can think of for now....
Good luck!
Thread: Mimic 2 --- What's the verdict ? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Got the Pro version and am a "before" mimic 1 long time user - is worth it. Learning curve is there to fully implement but you can just use it as you did mimic1. This version does not require that darn cd (got way too many and can never find it when I need it!). I like controling everything the head does in mimic and then not having to tweak in poser. If like me you do a bunch of talking heads animations - is only way to go - Plus, it works on xppro ntsf compressed drive. Good Luck!

I would bring in a single obj of stuff that does not move (ie: keel (unless is not a fixed keel of course), cabin, fore and aft decks, main mast, etc.) make that a figure. Then bring in the seperate objs that move together and make them props parented to figure. Then search through here for Dr. Geep props/rotation/joint setting up tutorial. I did a crane that way with rotating cab and up down| expanding boom. The hardest is setting up the joint parameters but should be easy with the sails. Also, may want to use the create wave once in poser (if P5) and make morphs for lufting on sails and magnet for full wind fill - so may want to keep boom and lines seperate but parented to the sails. Good luck!

believe that the geometries for the two are different - tailor doesnt like that (havent installed new version yet so not sure about that). I think there is a utility out there for making p4 go to millenium - do a check at poser forum instead of this one. On stills I cheat and put mm feet invisible and parent the shoe to the feet.
Thread: Error message problem | Forum: Poser Technical
well, not sure about the 1st problem - your os/poser version/hardware/etc may help on that one. In Poser the 3d obj file needs to be in the file directory and exact name that your library item is calling. If it is a daz product than it would have the 3d obj in the proper file with its installation. If it is a zip download of a 3d item than you must do one of 2 things: unzip the geometries to the exact name of the runtimegeometriesfilefoldername*.obj OR edit the cr2 that is your library in the 2 places you find runtime:geometries:*.obj to where you have placed the 3d obj file If you dont own the 3d item and are using an add on for a specific figure than you need to go buy the original specific figure for it to work. If you own the item and the geometries folder contains the proper obj file - could be the rsr that is in that geometries folder [in which case delete it] or you may need to (if windows user) scan/defrag disk.

Actually, worst part is - most are generated with stolen or non existant email accounts (is easy to program wrong return address) and if you do a remove, they give it to another phoney address with exact same page. I actually got one junk email [5x a day minimum from different phoney addresses to all my domain email addresses] that said I had to call them long distance during their working hours to be removed from their email list. Since I have unlimited long distance on my fax machine.... I made an all black with white lettering fax telling them (in impolite terms) to take off my Whole Domain from their list and after sending the fax 6 or 7 times and using all their fax ink, they quit sending stuff to my domain. Know it is not nice but neither are they!

2 cute... love the story part to go with the figures as it makes them more interesting.... So big question - who is going to be the person to make them mimic'able?

I agree with Mock (again, I just did that in another thread...). I chickened out and continued to use my ppp for mimic/pose animations then would save and go out and open up my P5 to do production rendering. Since P5sr2.1, been getting gutzy and using P5 - on laptop (yes is legal to install on A laptop and A desktop (confirmed with cl at release 1) I cannot do anything other than a plain draft style render on laptop but everything else works great. Can even use remote control from laptop to run my desktop with P5 and it will render production. Difference? my desktop is 1g mem, p42.8, virmem set to 4096 x 4096 with over 150g free harddrive running xppro in classic mode, laptop is 198m 650 with only 25g harddrive free in win98SE. Now I am even building my characters (non people), made in carrera, in P5 and barely touch PPP. P5 material room is a killer to learn but once you play around with it - WOW. Hair, cloth ok - face room - who cares in my book. So as a final.... I would upgrade to p5 if I were you

I agree with Mock, I see something that I need to pull out credit card for - $1.99 isnt enough (do same at rdna and philc) so go looking for other stuff to bring up total. I actually find it too hard to search through this marketplace - although, I do - as I get tired of V3 male looking and getting Vicky everything. I am female so know what to do with my body for poses/textures but male body stymies me (except hubby got him down pat ;-0)

Mill Man is micael 1: http://secure.daz3d.com/shop.php?op=itemdetails&item=3 I think that 2 would be a better [and bees are buzzing that a 3 is a'comin) - so would suggest contacting James Bond character/maker to be sure it works with MillMan2. Have been through all daz/zygote creatures since Poser1 and have not had too much trouble using old stuff with upgrades but you never know.
