Thread: I am soooo lucky... | Forum: Photography
oh one can do plenty of junk to film. one of my teachers had a good 80 sheets of film damaged during a flood at school centrally located in his office (half the second floor was later rebuilt, and what he was thinking leaving 80 sheets of film containing exposures some 20 years old in his school office, no one will ever know). Either way, many were damaged beyond repair (this happened over the weekend, and he didnt find out til the monday), many survived, and only needed a wash. Now, if you left that card stick in a puddle of water for 2 days, you might not be so lucky... once washed a zipdisk, but didn't have the courage to see if it worked, risking my zip drive to do so. You got cahunas mah friend.

as for "feedback" on the work, one almost never gets that from the gallery. Between the two devils, the forums are the best place, cuz one can at least ask for no backpatting (if you do that in the gallery, you 'll either get it anyways, or no one will comment). Ideally, one should show their work to their friends and people in their real lives, whther they "understand" art or not (the understanding part... that's a toss up on this site if you ask me). At least people can hold it in front of their eyes, printed/created and in their hands, the way it was meant to be viewed. and yes yes yes, sometimes things are made to be viewed on the net too...

understood guys. But my thought is that the people who want more than 3 a day, or unlimited just aren't putting any effort into the work. If you can post 10 final works of art a day, more power to ya, but I find it pretty suspectful. there are several users, well, more than several, who will punch in 3 news pics at 12:01am renderosity (pacific I believe) time. there was the idea that there should be a "Fine Art" gallery of sorts, where members uploaded their best work, of which they would be allowed 1 per week... why not always upload your best? I mean, I understand there are times when we phuck around and have fun (re: Mike's barbidoll sex fascination... we won't get into that any further), but otherwise, one should always put forth their best if they're gonna put forth anything at all. As agentsmith said, I don't believe poser users are big culprits. Rendering takes a long time, and Poser is catered to the midrange user in terms of price, which usually means most are running mid-range machines (somewhere around the 1ghz mark, usually lower I'd wager), which means LOOONG render times. If anything, I'd believe the photogrpahy and 2D users to be the big culprits. If we put the same amount of work into something that a poser user does, we're done, they then have to watch their computer render for 15 hours (man 3D's a bummer eh?). No fingers being pointed, it's just a thought. With a digi cam, one can go outside, shoot 20 pics of their garden, and upload them an hour later. Not the same with the 3D users who dominate this site. for this reason, I believe the members complaining about the quality of work being uploaded are looking in the wrong direction (the amount of images allowed per day), as it isn't really the 3D users who have the ability to do such a thing too often. That said, I don't think the 2D/photo users are clogging things up either. With a membership number hovering around something like 150,000 users, who gives a rat's ass if 400 images get uploade in one day? Imagine if every single person uploaded 1 PER WEEK, then Renderosity's server hardware would effin' choke. the other side of me says that either way, QUALITY is in the eye of the beholder. If you only want to see quality work, find the artists you find to always upload great stuff, put'em on your favourites, and check there stuff out when they upload. Who am I to say so and so can only upload 3 pieces of work a day? Hell, deviantart.com allows unlimited uploads. If you wanted to switch over, you could have yor entire gallery up in less than an hour. Still, i dunno. With photo, it's easy to get a few good pics on a roll, and put'em up all at once. I still believe though that more time can be put into the subtle details to make yourself happier. when it all comes down to the wire, though, in the end this is nothing more thanb a website, housing poorly compressed jpeg images, nothing more. This really isn't the real world, and should all be taken with a grain of salt. Members who bitch about the quality of work being posted should go elsewhere to view work if the work here sucks as much as they say. In montreal (and I know montreal is a big center for the art world, the same can't be said for most cities), there are over a hundred galleries on the island, and on most any given day, you can walk in, pay a few dollars, and risk seeing some really crappy art, or you might get surprised and say "Holy fuck that was good!" It's a risk. for that reason, my vote went with the 3rd choice, paraphrased as "I don't really give a damn".

incidently, you make this animate in jpeg files probably with some dynamic html or java script, or the ever useful Flash... it would still be a jpeg, just a series of jpegs... c'mon, its fun to skirt the rules.

well, my nikon n2000 is fuckin' nice, no complaints about it whatsoever. All the features I could want (I hate DOF preview anyways), and it's built of fricking steel. it is somewhat loud on shutter release, though, I have noticed its hard to notice this unless in an isolated and quiet area. nikon's kick leica booty anyways.

my thought is that if you are able to upload 3 pieces of work a day, or even 1 a day (7 in a week), then you aren't putting enough effort into your creations. my own personal thought is all, my work tends to get long winded and take months, and generally doesn't look it anyways...

the baddest ass there is when it comes to photo, and photo illustration/manipulation. He doesn't use different photos to make some gigantic heap of something or other, he uses what's necessary and gets the point across in a somewhat minimalistic fashion, especially with Embrace the mutation... the site used to function better, but oh well.Thread: regarding the free font download for the contest | Forum: Community Center
The purpose is that someone is getting ripped. In this case, AGFA. If it was curious labs, there'd have already been a lynch mob come and gone.

these are great shots crakhead (heh, couldn't resist). the background and water reflection from the first is my favourite... the lady's sillohette (typo?) tho in the first... her arms make an almost birdlike wing shape... the subtle glow on her back and lower leg in the second is really nice as well, but i like the dark moodiness of the first more.
