To see if some one has figured out how to bring it to life? :)
with a forum topic as wide as [or as shallow as] one's own imagination it is no wonder that it's so quiet here--
Some have no imagination and others have too much. Some folks are strictly G-rated [Which is to say, all they can write is seen through the eyes Mrs. Grundy's idea of morality and propriety] and yet others are all over looking in strange and sometimes dark places in the heart, mind, morals, etc.
What kind of story is gripping to a G-rated adult mind? Dunno, but I imagine it would be boring to me. Art [graphic or written] should be transformative and maybe even invasive in the sense that once experienced the art or the writing you are different [you see the world differently] than you were before. It is rare that G-rated arts are transformative or disruptive to the way people look at themselves or the world. The Matrix or Simulacron-3 can be disruptive. Watching Sponge Bob Squarepants is its own reward [a clinical study showed it makes kids unable to retain information].
I can imagine one might say "Well what about Disney's stories?" Go read the originals and their variants or the unexpurgated history... most of their stories are based on horrific folktales... which was the point of the stories to teach certain real lessons about the world.
Given that I like prose like China Mieville or William Gibson or Roger Zelazny mixed with a dash of Jaqueline Carey and Steven Brust, most of what I have seen here is [yawn!] kind of pedestrian. Some of Sixus1's promo stories for his products at RDNA [or in their story forum] are horribly well written [yes I know... use a pun go to jail].
Be that as it may... it does not seem that folks around here really want to tell stories or post them... or even discuss them.
as for the thumbnail... the last time I tried to post something here [a couple of years ago?] the thumbnail was required... so if that's changed well great...
Thread: dot...dot...dot...exclamation mark | Forum: Writers
having a writer's forum like this is much like having just single render forum where there is no differentiation as to the software used or the genre presented... there are too many kinds of 3d software / rendering apps and even more types / styles / genres of writng & writers...
from what has passed though over the passed few years there has not been a 'group' of like minded writers... which means they seek other forums... generally the TOS and the forum set-up is not conducive to writing [Why should you have to post a thumbnail for a story?] or the prtesentation of writing.
as for exclaimation... I'm not an exclaimatory writer... but...
Adult oriented cyber-punk / SF / Fantasy / Mythology / Foklore is more my line . Because of the generally G rated orientation of the Rendo forums, it seems to me an inappropriate location to post works so I use a different web forum which is better suited and allows posting PDFs or Text with images...
It seems that this forum is an after-thought.
Alas.

Thread: Bug? - Changing Temp File Paths in Poser Pro 2012 does not work. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - We may agree or disagree with Microsoft's decisions as much as we want, at the end of the day, software that runs on Windows has to play by Windows' rules or it risks breaking with OS updates. In my experience, when you try to fight the OS, the OS almost always wins.
Ain't that the truth! Unless you run it on Linux... ;) Yet is just seems to be totally bass-ackwards for a rendering app to be at the mercy of a user's profile... if the profile gets corrupted you lose all your work... and mixing appdata with user space data is less than optimal.
In any case I'm giving up on what apparently is a quixotic adventure...
thanks for the comments...

@aRtBee
then you are missing the point of SSDs... they are intended to be used anywhere where fast Read/write is helpful... just because they can't be swap files are an example... or files which require high speed I/O... mySSD can write at least 5 times faster than my RAID"0" C drive.... whci is why I use it for my windows swap... and why I'd like to use it for other things... but it does not seem to be much help for Poser.
RAM disks are fine and well as long as the computer stays powered on... lose power you lose your temp files... which under certain circumstances may be "a bad thing" for example using memory for a swap disk is probably not a good thing... nor for storage for things you have not saved to permenant storage... nor files which are used to stop, start or cache information used by Windows or your applications.
Yes and the point of the temp folder is? Looking at the actual files [which includes the rendered image cache] tells me theres nothing there that could not be put on a different drive than the %user appdata%
Yes the renders are cached in the same location [maybe you have not tried what I have done]. I moved the whole poserpro app data temp file cache to a different location. Apparently FFRender64 is hard coded to use :AppData:Roaming:PoserPro:9:RenderCache: to store the image as it is being rendered... upon completion of the render the file is copied to the temp file location... in my case this means that the files is rendered onto my C drive then at the completion of the render it is copied to the RenderCache on my D: drive... which sort of makes the whole idea of being able to move the temp folder' moot
I'll be glad to take a look at your tutorial... but seems to me I'm barking up the wrong tree as apparently moving the temp files achieves no useful purpose... so much so that one wonders why the feature still exists... especially since the programmers hard coded where the images will be rendered.

Well to answer both questions:
I have 24 Gb of memory... Poser rarely uses more than 8.5 Gb when the bucketsize is set to 64.... I'm trying a larger bucket size now and using the queue manager so their is less over head with screen refresh
The exr.files vary from 14 to 20 mb -- exr is a hdr type [I read somewhere it originated with Pixar Renderman] but as the render progress it apparently is writing and re-writing this file... the exr is what is displayed in your 'saved renders'
As to roaming verses local profiles and temp folder. -- In reality they should have nothing to do with one another... unfortunately it seems that the programmers at SM fail to see it that way... and so the temp folder setting is nothing but something left over from pre-Vista times...it actually might work on XP but I'm running Win7 x64 SP1
Look at it this way -- the temp folder does NOT need to be attached to the windows profile. there is nothing in there that is either harmful to 'userspace' nor is it likely to be used for subversion of security.... much like the runtime... I've never put the runtim in my user space because It makes it hard to move when I upgrade... so runtimes are never on primary OS drives... and frankly I don't see whay the tempfiles are any different... oh yse the saved renders are in there and yes for some reason
I've administered Windows networks and workstations since 1996.. and know a little about it [maybe not enough being a general specialist ;)]... this looks to be an "undocumented feature" that is weighed down by the MS idea that application data should be attached to user profiles when 'temporary files' are application resources not user resources.

when an SSD is capable of 150 Mb/s of data transfer and a typical two drive Raid 0 and only do about 30 Mb/s of data transfer and the temp file .exr is the target of the render dont you think moving that file to a faster drive will lead to faster render?SSD are almost as fast as writing to memory
My last system was a Single Q9550 Quad Core with 8 gb of RAM ... An IDL scene took a while to do... the new set-up is over twice as fast but the limiting factor seems to be the file that poser is writing that render file during the render... I'm not bothered by a long load time for a scene file but the faster the render is written the faster the render gets done.
Btw I've discovered that the Queue manager does the same thing.here's the commandline as it appears in Queue manager:
E:applicationsSmith MicroPoser Pro 2012FFRender64.exe 4415 C:UsersUSERNAMEAppDataLocalTempQueue Manager92013- 4-29_ 3h 0m18s 1 indirectLightPrepass.xml C:UsersUSERNAMEAppDataLocalTempQueue Manager9quRender 1 1.exr C:UsersUSERNAMEAppDataLocalTempQueue Manager9
Apparently a Tempfile setting made in PoserPro are effectively meaningless.
If I had the cash to put out for an array of SSDs I would but a four drive array would set me back quite a bit of cash.

By the way a post at Microsoft in answer to the question about moving the user profiles says:
"This setting should be used only in a test environment. By changing the default location of the user profile directories or program data folders to a volume other than the System volume, you will not be able to service your Windows installation. Any updates, fixes, or service packs will fail to be applied to the installation. Microsoft does not recommend that you change the location of the user profile directories or program data folders...."

That is incorrect assumption.
A program which does not do what it was designed to do has a bug... The .EXR file that is being accessed is the actual render that Poser is building... it -- by definition -- is a temporary file.
This should have nothing to do with the local profile other than by default PoserPro uses the "User Profile:AppData:Roaming: PoserPro" folder to store temp files by default.
When I changed my default runtime to a different location than the default profile location, it moves -- so I have a folder called Runtimes which has multiple runtimes... I should be able to move the temp file location without moving my profile but it does not -- which makes this a bug rather than a feature...
In Windows when I move the swap file to a specific drive-- it moves... per the Poser documentation when I move the temp file it should move as well... but apparently FFRender64 does not do this and instead uses a hard coded environmental variable rather than reading the XML configuration or the poser.ini file . The hard code forces the file to be written to the OS user profile location rather than the "temp file" location as set in Poser. This defeats the purpose of setting a "temp file" location.
I've tried rendering both with a "single thread" and a "separate thread" neither make a change... . Since disk read and write time are important for fast renders PoserPro renders much slower than it has to because I can't put those temp files on the SSD..
When app programmers take lazy short cuts [and this was a lazy short cut!] and don't think their design through you end up with sorry code and angry users who have to make "Rube Goldberg" solutions to correct the lazy programmers. Moving the user profile is a Goldberg solution but that looks like what I will have to do.

Quote - Keep in mind that Tkinter is a dead-end. It doesn't work on Poser 64 bit.
Cheers.
If it does not work in x64 then why is it in my Poser Pro 2012 for Windows python dlls folder? or are you referring to Tkinter not working in OSX?

Lyrics: Lonely Highway
A rainy day in Paradise
With a broken heart on the way
Sometimes you know I feel it
Just like those sad songs play
Sittin’ here for Hours
Tryin to say what I mean
Bout where I’ve been and where I’m goin’
And what I’ve been in between
Love is a Lonely Highway
When the love songs come to the end
Some times I’ve been lucky though
To lose a lover and find a friend
Oh to lose a lover and find a friend
Pushin’ down the pavement
Followin’ old dreams around
Through empty alleys and one way streets
Listenin’ to the sound
Of rain drops on tin roofs
And the moanin’ of the wind
Wishin’ I could find a lover
Who was my lover and my friend
Love is a Lonely Highway
When the love song comes to the end
Some times I’ve been lucky though
To lose a lover and find a friend
Oh to lose a lover and find a friend
Well I guess it’s time to be goin’
I’ve said all I can say
Girl, you know I love you
But our destiny is in the way
You got a man who loves you
I got a dream to find
So what’s the use of stayin’ here
When we’ve already made up our minds?
Love is a Lonely Highway
When love songs come to the end
Sometimes I’ve been lucky though
To lose a lover and find a friend
Oh to lose a lover and find a friend
Yeah Love is a Lonely Highway
When it all comes to the end
Some times I’ve been lucky though
I lost you
But you’re still my friend

Thread: copyright on 3d renders | Forum: Writers
Two clarifications:
If you intend to publish [reproduce the image] for sale then registration with the Copyright Office is suggested. Why? In the event of legal proceedings, the completed Copyright registration is the "Proof" you "own" the image in question. While you don't have to register it is a safeguard that may protect your profits.
Most of the Poser / 3d Modelists sell their work on the basis that your payment is purchasing a "license" to use their work [3d model] in the manner set forth in the license provided with the model / morph.
Using a model that you have not paid for or using it in a manner that violates the model maker's license will put you inviolation of their copyright. So always be sure of the source of the works you are using and that the model maker's license allows you to use it.
Thread: Morph Channel Management Scripts? | Forum: Poser Python Scripting
An Update--
I added PMBCC_051 to PBMCC_99 manually to a X-M modified v4.2 CR2... NGM was manually modified to run in CC_51 through CC_61 and NGM Petite was manually modified to run in CC_71 through CC_79... and things appear to be working... so a script is a doable solution -- I just don't have the skill to do what is needed.... and it sure would make moving these things around alot easier.
Thread: Morph Channel Management Scripts? | Forum: Poser Python Scripting
I started to ask how many PBMCC_xx chanels but looking at a V4.2 cr2 I see that it is 50 [PBMCC_01 to PBMCC_50].... Anyone have a script to add another 49 channels so there are 99? Adding more channels would allow automated or manual morph editing to move the conflicts.
Thread: Morph Channel Management Scripts? | Forum: Poser Python Scripting
Quote - 1) and 2) are not hard to do
There are a bunch of PBM_CC channels which are meant for community developers to use for morphs.
The problem is that the developers are self assigning the channels and in turn those assignments are creating conflict.
For example Posermatic's NGM uses 10 channels from PBMCC41 throug PBMCC50. Meipe-Xameva's Booty uses PBMCC45 and PBMCC46. Injectiong both morphs causes the NGM morph to explode when the legs are moved.
M-X Thigh fixes rund from PBMCC37 tp PBMCC50... which overlaps all of NGM and a portion fo NGM Petite
This could be maually fixed but it is a pain in the rear to do so...
