They're called REALLY REALLY fast machines w/ gobs of video ram (faster update of the screen), gobs of system RAM (faster updates when you are making the scene and general ease of use) and a super horrendously fast processor (Athlon 1000 MHz is really nice ... One of the PCMAG test benchmarks was a Bryce scene and it was 10% faster than a like setup/speed PIII) Not to mention a super fast hd (10k RPM) w/ lotsa room. At least, for a PC. A Mac on the other hand, a 450MHz G4 with Gobs and gobs of RAM (most allocated to Bryce) would be REALLY nice ... :) Other wise, make the scene is several parts, render of multiple computers (each running Bryce) and then composite in an app like Photoshop ... :P An SGI running NT, would be nice as well. Any one of these will cost upwards of $2500 for the PC, about the same (I think, haven't priced them recently) for the Mac, and upwards of $5000 (min) for the SGI. Enjoy!
Thread: Could anyone help please? lights and rendering | Forum: Bryce
Is is starting to hit an object that has heavy transparency on it? I notice this happening in the scene that I'm working on right now. It screams along until the 3rd or 4th pass through and then it screams through the top 1/2 of the screen and then appears to freeze. I noticed that it's at the first row that has a pixel for the tranparent/reflective texture on a crystal vase. Once past the vase, it screams along until it hits the next vase. Go figure. John

Have you thought of sticking a (semi) transparent/clear material on the cylinder and then placing a small radial light with in the cylinder to simulate it's light effects? HTH, John

Check out www.wolfiesden.com. In the downloads section is a nice nifty util called Bryce Librarian. Was written for B3D, but works fine for B4 except for .BSK files. Wolfie, are you catching all of this? See free advertising ... John jstawarz2@netzero.net
Thread: turn turn turn/ why won't it turn:( | Forum: Bryce
Hi, I see that you're covering all of the bases for this question ... :) Have you tried the suggestion from the Bryce list? The align to path under attributes for the "egg"? That should do you. TTFN!

Basically, he's saying that you download the larger one if you haven't got one of his other programs loaded and the smaller if you have loaded on of the others. If you've loaded NOTHING that was written in VB6 (or VB6 itself), then get the version that has the runtimes in it. It'll save you a lot of hassle.

Something else that you might want to consider is this: go to www.wolfiesgate.com and get a copy of the bryce Librarian. It will export materials, obp, and Bryce 3 skies. It will even let you swap entire preset files out (I think while bryce is running. Don't have either here to check). It's been updated for Bryce 4 (sorta). He does say on his site that it'll work for B4, just won't handle the .BSK files ... :) HTH, John PS - from what I understand (reading the manual and talking to other users) the capability of custom folders was on the drawing board when the manual was sent to the printers but was scrapped when time constraints and managerial interference started to hit in a major way. Hopefully, Corel will pick this up and run with it for B5.

Yes, but the antique wooden dresser that my Mother-in-law had since she was my middle son's age got a little waterlogged in one of Virginia's freak thundershowers. John

That's okay. Having just finished moving (not unpacking, just moving), I'm just now getting started on your challange. Little boy playing w/ sandcastle on the beach will be done before the end of next week (I hope ... :P :) Take care! John
Thread: Brycetech: Question about new Poser Tutorial format | Forum: Bryce
I've always preferred being able to print them out. Makes it easier to read through the first time while I'm (harumph) otherwise occupied (if you catch my drift). Then I can take it back to the 'puter and run through it there... :)
Thread: Oh Oh! | Forum: Bryce
default.br3 (?) in the program directory of B3D. Or is this only valid with the default.brf in B4? (I've only had B4, if you can't tell ... :)
Thread: Crash Site - WIP - Need Technical help and advice | Forum: Bryce
Here's an idea that pops into my head. Since they used double exposure when filming to get the 2 suns in the movie, why not use the same technique here? Render one picture with the suns in one position, render the picture THE EXACT SAME WAY with the exception of where the sun is and the merge the two in Photoshop? Good, bad, indifferent?
Thread: Bryce Material Viewer anyone seen one? | Forum: Bryce
Eh, well, I think I nabbed a copy before he pulled it down. D/l'd it at least. Haven't gotten around to actually using it, yet. He's also been pre-occupied with something lately and just recently returned (like last week or so). Now that he's available again, maybe he'll get around to it.
Thread: WIP - Champagne glass model | Forum: Bryce
Hmmm.... Maybe I'll just recreate the model this way ... :) I'd just created 2 circles and lofted them. Something to think about.
