I think a part of the problem is that the files called "texture" maps give a false idea. They don't have any texture information they are in fact colour maps. They can be used as quick and dirty maps to give texture but they may be completely wrong. For instance a piece of cloth, may have a plain colour or pattern printed on it, but that is not the texture of the cloth. If it's silk it will have a fine texture, sacking will be course, regardless of colour. So one set of files contains the colour maps and the other contains the texture. As out lined above the bump or displacement maps don't use colour data, they are a greyscale map with the black = none through to white = full, stepped up through the shades of grey information onto the object. If you look at your hand the skin colour information has very little to do with the skin texture, which is why I called greyscaling the colour map a quick and dirty method. Some of my darker veins aren't raised at all. If you wish to create a good bump/displacement map you need to look at the surface texture and create a map of that. I think of it as a topographical map with 255 layers, black is sea level, grey shade 1 = 1 step up, grey scale 2 = 1 step higher, and so on up to the highest mountain which is white. Of course you don't need to use every shade of grey, you can decided what steps to use by your choice of grays.
Thread: Ok Mac Vs. Pc what VERSION of 7 should I buy? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Change the settings in Preferences and it will use all your processing power. P7 on Core Duo and OS X is great, sure SR1 is needed but sooooo much better than P5/6.

Thread: Poser is for Perverts? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Sure Poser users are perverts, when you look closely at the word and meaning. A pervert is someone or something that deviates from the norm. Pervert is a relative measurement base on "normal" behavior. A witness withholding testimony causes perverted justice. At a Sun Club, the person always wearing clothing is the pervert, they are away from the expected normal. A Playmate dressed in a suit all buttoned up would be a pervert, she is not conforming to the norms of that business. Because "Normal" is not an absolute, it is very difficult to define perverted until you reach extremes. I most Western counties sexual relations with an animal is an extreme perversion, in other countries it's not. There are many things that effect our view of normal. My in-law considers having sex with the light on or during the day as perverted behavior, to her it is not "Normal". So are Poser Users perverts? Yes. Poser is not a "Normal" 3D modeling/rendering package, we don't use it in "Normal" accepted ways. Clearly it's a perversion of the purity of 3D Art. Any who push at the boundaries of the normal, are perverters. Don't fight it, embrace it.

Please forgive my childish jest, I also provided both a clear answer to the question and a link to software which can help solve this "Problem", how childish of me, so sorry.

Under Macintosh OSX .DS_Store holds the information which controls the way a folder will be opened; i.e., the shape and size of the window, the position of the window on the desktop and whether file, folder or icon view has been selected. If you were to delete the .DS_Store the folder would revert to the system default next time it is opened and a new blank .DS_Store would appear (invisibly). We have to put up with a constant stream of PC, junk files in our e-mail .DS_Store is just our little payback:-)Thread: Untangling Millennium Kids Mystery | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Wow, wouldn't it be great if someone could start a "Family Tree" of all the main poser people. I often don't buy good looking stuff because I'm not sure if this will fit or work with any of the characters I own.

Thread: OT - Biggest cinematic spaceship before Star Wars? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
What about those huge ships in Flash Gordon, the B&W movie serials. and wasn't there a early rocket hit the moon in the face and it looked like the rocket was almost larger than the moon. I think they blasted it out of a canon.
Thread: (OT)---W32/Polip virus??? layman explanation needed please........ | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'd second that good advice for the paranoid and those who are sick of virus and internet problems. More and more people are getting a cheap Mac mini or second hand OSX computer for all their downloading, internet and email needs. You can then check everything for virus. before moving the files to the PC. They network with Windows computers so just plug it into the router and turn on Windows sharing. This gives you a "relatively" safe internet experience. I've been saved from 18 discovered email infections alone. Not having to reinstall my software and Runtimes or tearing my hair out has paid for it.

Be very careful removing your RAM!!! Static electricity kills RAM. It only takes 30 volts to fry your chips and you can easily generate 3000 volts just brushing your hair. Ensure you have the correct equipment and follow the correct practices.
Thread: Do Dissplacement renders take much longer than otherwise? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I've spent some time playing with different Displacement Bounds and Maps and I've found that it's a resounding YES, they do make your render time longer, sometimes much longer.
