Cool. I have the free Aiko Foal and a few others. Not things I'd use often enough to justify buying one but Cindy looks really nice.
*"… most especially those of the world mythologies like the Satyr, Minotaur and Centaur."*Do you have Pinin's Satyress? Can't find the figure link at the moment but there are some poses for her at ShareCG.

"Its interesting watching how it all develops."
Indeed. IIRC some real world companies had set up shop in Second Life. I can imagine some interesting opportunities for education, global activism etc. in a more controlled or focused virtual environment. As to the purely social/entertainment side of it, I'm I see it as just another incentive for people to tune out of real, in person interaction. But, for better or worse, that seems to be the way things are going. * *

Thread: Why can't Poser (and DAZ) use HTML style relative paths? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Very off the cuff thought (i.e. an excuse if I say something stupid).
From a programming standpoint, you'd have to have a way to say push the current folder on a stack and pop it off as you traversed the hirearchy - a fancy way of saying keep track of where you are. How many times you'd have to do that depends on how deep the references go. Not a huge challenge but then I say that every time I write code and am too often proved wrong, especially considering that I know nothing of how Poser is coded. It's much easier IMO, to do it explicitly. There's also the matter of handling both formats; again possibly easy or maybe not.
Can you not "simply" change the .pmd reference in the .cr2? It would be easy (I would think) to have a utility that would allow you to drag the .cr2 and the .pmd onto it and have it move the .pmd to the location of the .cr2 and automatically change the reference(s) in the .cr2, or select the .cr2 folder etc. Not as nice as having Poser do it but it wouldn't require re-jiggering Poser's code. Also, I wonder if souch a change might not require updates to other utilities out there that are written based on the current way of doing things,

The dog ate my homework - The economy ate my 3D world? I see that these OTOY folks are the Octane Render folks. Never had any interest in this stuff but I always wondered what happened to Second Life. The last I remember reading was scandals about underage characters etc. Judging from the low quality stuff back then, I can imagine what would would happen with the kind of 'Hollywood' level graphics that article was touting. Seems like there would also always be an issue if you had to move DAZ's, SM's etc. IP to some server to be rendered - possibly a non-starter without massive DRM, money changing hands, legal opinions etc.

*"*I'd say he's mixed at best, but definitely not full caucasian." That was my exact impression. The world is increasingly mixed. It's already evident at the genetic level, becoming more evident at the morphological level. Not that there isn't a great need for distinct types but the 'Heinz 57' is a real representation of a lot of people.

"smart IK system"
That was my thought - coming at this from a COMPLETELY naieve standpoint. If user puts body part in a certain position,, the "solver" (don't they actually call them that?), can go back through and adjust the appropriate parts to produce the anatomically correct solution. I'm sure there may be some variation, i.e. more than one solution that would end up with Vickie's hand on her bum, but the solver should be able to pick the most "natural" or "comfortable" one, maybe by minimizing the stress in the system. An instructor teaching a model to pose or a parent getting their child to 'sit up straight' does hands on adjustments. Those are refinements to normal human positioning. Here, I would think that first and foremost, you're talking about just eliminating the unnatural/impossible. If you got that down, you could add a provision to widen the envelope for things like age, fitness, weight etc.
We have plenty of people here who can eyeball it. There should be data sets somewhere detailing the limits for the average human. There should be algorithms available in general - shouldn't have to go with something like neural networks or advanced 'AI.' The question I suppose would be is it a limitation of the rigging system (duh idiot, that's what they've been saying) in terms of not enough information or flexibility. Or, is it a limitation of the way Poser is dealing with it, some combination or something else altogether.

Thread: Market place thumbnails. With dawn around we need a little V4 on the thumbnail | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
The issue of an overlay/icon type thing has come up before in some context. If you search, you may be able to find the thread. I think in the end, I ended up suggesting a mouse over text AKA a tooltip in Windows. The advantage would be the ability to list multiple figures where appropriate. It’s not quite as convenient as an icon, but it still allows you to see what you need to see without clicking and going to the product page. ShareCG has something like this, though theirs also has a larger thumbnail image which wouldn’t be needed here. It also avoids vendors needing to name their products V4 this or that. One can argue they shouldn’t mind but I’m pretty sure some would. Also, again, there’s the problem of multiple figure items.
I’d like to see a more clear indication of required products up front. I see what looks like a dress and try to decipher from those tags clothing mesh texture whatever, whether it’s really a dress or a texture for a dress or accessories for a dress …. I’m talking about freestuff here, maybe the marketplace is more clear - and likely I'm missing the clarity as well. A mouseover would have to be implemented by the site and TBH, I think any icons should be as well, or at least a set provided to make it consistent and not have dozens of different V4 icons/indicators. Making it easy for people to tick off the relevant figures when they upload something and have it done would be ideal IMO. I’m sure someone will be along to say ‘just click on the thing and go look,’ but it’s a matter of convenience and efficiency ÷)

I wouldn’t seriously expect anyone to do any type of realistic internal anatomy. Trans maps would be the easiest way to expose it. Getting into sections or retracting/resecting things, depicting internal musculature, layers of fat etc. is, Zygote territory. I’m not even sure what the market would be and it would probably be used more for the occasional explicit autopsy or surgery scene (i.e. extremely rare) or the kinds of things that would appeal to decap fans.. I don’t care for the latter, even Grimm’s fairy tales in their unoriginal versions are too gruesome for me. Still as popular as the Coed Chainsaw Massacre genre in film seems to be, I’m sure there are Poserites who might appreciate it.
On the more ‘legitimate’ side, I guess I’ve mused about some 3rd world school scenario, but if they even have computers, they may be able to pirate Zygote’s models or Zygote might make them available to such deserving institutions. Maybe there are a few home schoolers who might like to tailor their kid’s biology education in a way consistent with their own values, though I’m reaching there, and ironically, a figure characterized as something else would be the last place they’d look. OTOH, a figure with such features would make it unique and an overall focus on anatomy might diffuse the focus on any particular anatomical system. On the whole though I think it falls under the heading of it would be neat and possibly useful to a few if it were done really well, but I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for the rush.
But hey, I see that the old Visible Woman kit from childhood is still around so maybe E with smart propped entrails might have some interest after all ÷)

I think the Cat in the Hat might know a lot about that. I'm pretty sure this has been covered once and maybe BB even weighed in with a solution - which is probably a detailed treatment of what Laurie mentioned. Good luck searching.

“WOW! I firmly agree with lmckenzie. Captures the basics of humanity better than any of those round things.”
Wish you’d quoted my profundity. I refreshed twice and couldn’t see my post so I redid it sans the artistic commentary. Yet you saw it and it’s not here – bizarre. Maybe the moddies have taken to deleting me on sight.
“Though privately I've had a few comments from …”
Just bad timing. Perfectly timed to poke fun at the whole 3D taboo weirdness, but I can see how some might jump to feeling annoyed and miss the ironic humor. If you’d named her Sunshine, probably another set of bunnies would have been chomping at your salad. Love the figure though and I’m sure cubist fans everywhere will appreciate such a seminal work.
Counting down until someone mentions the IOR of cardboard and how the shader misses the proper SSS. Personally, I’m offended that you didn’t include .rsr thumbnails. Also, please put a Manufactured On date stamp on her flap so I can do nude renders and prove she’s not underage. Ooh, and a recycling symbol as well, we should be environmentally friendly ÷) *"… waterproof house …" *
Hmmm, OK, but don't give her a vacation home as well, cause then you'd have one more large liquid container than is allowed.

Thread: What would be an art webinar worth paying for? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I’m not sure how viable it would be, but it would be interesting to see a couple of people’s take on the same thing. You don’t have to duplicate the whole topic but maybe just a brief ‘here’s another way to do that,’ on a tricky or hard to understand area from another viewpoint. I’m thinking of all the programming or 3D examples I can follow up to a certain point and then get a bit lost. Later on, I’ll see the same topic covered by someone else and get the ‘aha, so that’s how it’s done/what it means’ moment.
Along the same multi-presenter lines, I think it would be cool to see a series with multiple people doing a single project from concept through modeling etc. to postwork. It wouldn’t have to be elaborate, in fact, simpler would probably be better. People could dip in where they wanted. If you’re only interested in lighting and postwork, skip the modeling etc. parts. Throughout the presentation, perhaps the various artists could comment on how their work all fit together and how they collaborated. A wrap up roundtable would be nice. Of course this is the way things get done on professional productions and, the typical hobbyist either does them all themselves or more likely purchases the components. Still, I think they might find it interesting and the individual elements would work as standalone training.
Birn used to have a site (3D Render Challenge?), which may still be up though I think someone else took up running it. That had a variety of great modeled scenes for people to try their hand at texturing, lighting, and rendering in their 3D application of choice. Something similar would be interesting with the same scene done by various artists. Bonus points if the content is available for the students to play along.
Moriador brings up a good point r.e. rambling. Probably the main nit pick I have with the geekatplay videos is the 'hit the wrong button', or the 'no, I think I’ll use this other texture moments – just generalizing here. Those are inevitable, even with an expert, but that’s where I would think that editing would come in and perhaps a pre-recording run through. Now maybe that’s the nature of more affordable training and maybe the type of product Teyon mentions is all hit the mark perfect in that regard I don’t know. I’d still put up with the minor annoyance for the price differential, but there should be a happy median. Subject matter expertise doesn’t make a great presenter, probably a fairly rare combination. That’s where a good editor, producer/director is probably invaluable. I can see how it can get expensive to produce.
If some of us are right and the Poser market won’t bear the price, what do you do? You don’t want to lower your quality for them. If you do Poser at reduced prices and rely on volume, I can almost guarantee that even those customers who look down on Poser as a toy will want some of those ‘toy’ prices themselves. It might almost be better to do Poser, DAZ Studio, entry level Vue, PaintShop Pro etc. as a separate division for consumer programs. Of course, this may be undesirable for any number of reasons, and for that matter, any pricing skepticism may be unwarranted.
Good point also r.e. search capability. They have some pretty neat technology IIRC based on voice recognition for video indexing albeit possibly price prohibitive. I can remember eagerly searching for ‘cigar’ back during the Lewinsky flap ÷) Maybe a .pdf transcript with links to points in the video would be nice. I’m sure there’s all sorts of tech out there I don’t even know about. Beyond having Sally say she’s having trouble with X, if she can show her screen and what she’s doing, it would be a tremendous help for everyone. I don’t have the bandwidth to even think about that kind of interaction but I can see how if you can pull it off there’s a world of possibilities. If you can bundle things up in a DVD, there are still a few people who may find it inconvenient to download multi-gigabyte presentations – sacred devotional material aside.

New studies out linking induced labor to increased risk of autism so give her broad hips. I'm sure the obstetrical issue has been dealt with by Zygote. Probably with a specialized model. You'd probably need a Poser neonate scaled appropriately. Trying to the the P4 infant or the Mil Baby out of there would give a new meaning to mesh splitting. I don't know if the uterus etc. tucked inside one of the models (ZWoman?) was an 'inside' joke or something that came with the figure she was based on. Obviously, you don't need that level of detail except perhaps for the C Section scenario. OTOH, one lacking feature in other efforts has been the non provision of anything more than a void, which isn't realistic.
There's been the rare (very rare) suggestion of providing internal anatomy, though beyond a brain and a heart, I haven't seen any - you could do a really offbeat Wizard of Oz with those I suppose. Zygote just sent me an ad for their 3D Atlas app, though I didn't check the price. Generally, you're going to pay very big bucks for anatomical models. I would think there's be some market for a low cost solution ala Poser. You can use 2D overlays but having 3D organs would be much better. They do have muscle maks and skeletons so it doesn't seem totally outrageous. Of course, there'd be a secondary (perhaps larger) market amongst the grue fans I imagine.
In terms of breasts, and body parts in general, what happened to the new soft body thing? I saw a couple of posts and then silence. It's rare for an exciting (I would think) new feature to get so little attention. I don't know how easy or possible it would be to set thost effects up and distribute them with a figure but they would be a selling point for folks with the latest version of Poser.

Too cute Sparky! Are the egg crates detachable? I think I’d prefer bottle caps and no doubt some will prefer Grade A Large to medium. She needs a little dog or kitty and a friend and a house … Even I could probably do a house though the intricacies of rigging a humanoid (or cardboardoid) are probably beyond me. You can provide a pair of scissors for genital morphs and a bathroom tissue roll for the male version.
