Thanks alot, Rutra, for taking the time!
Why actually not copy the old content "over" the freshly installed version? I guess theyexplain in the handbook how to do the other option, i.e. "pointing" to another folder, right?

Thanks for the advice, thefixer!
What do you think such a system actually costs?
Any advice on ventilation systems? My machine is in the living room, I need something silent.

I would suggest to anyone who considers future action, be it legal or non-legal, to do a screenshot of the violation of their copyright, just for evidence purposes. The courts in Germany tend to value every image copyright infringment case at 25,000 Euros. That doesn't mean 25,000 in damages for you but some legal feesof 600 to 1000 Euros - per image if they get a takedown notice from a German lawyer.
In short - there is a leverage - and it would really hurt :D

Assuming there is a commercial value to the images used there without permission - if there was none, they hadn't used them on their commercial website in the first place - it is obviously not enough to "give credit" by printing an artist name below the published image, not even under German copyright law which is somewhat more "artistic-minded" than commercially oriented.

Clear case of copyright infringement. They did mention the renderosity namesof ther creators but if they think that gets them off the hook they are badly mistaken. Copyright holders don't just have the right to be rcognized by name as the creators of their works, they also have the sole right to decide about further use, copying and distribution of those images. All of this has been violated here.
You could demand them to take this down and even demand damages in the form of compulsory license fees. Actually that would be a fun case. I am a self-employed lawyer working in IT law and Intellectual property law in this jurisdiction. I am always happy to pursue such cases. If you wanna give them some fire, drop me a PM. ;)

If you should manage to get decent results for fringes in dynamic cloth, please let me know. I started dabbling with dynamic hair as fringes yesterday. The basic idea is to get the hair much thicker and let it grow on very narrow seams.
First results look promising
Has anybody tried to combine dynamic hair with dynamic cloth, i.e. scalplocks and fringes hanging from dynamic cloth? That would be cool.

Thanks a lot for the input! I will retry the above render with those shadowless front lights!

Don't get me wrong, Vue IS good, that's why I use it. The most realistic images I could come up with so far look like this:
I have the feeling that there is still quite a way to go until top-notch realism. Maybe dealing with lighting inside Vue could get me there. I also suspect that a softare like Maxwell won't get me jaw-dropping results from the start but rather have a considerable learning curve.
What do you guys think about C4d and Carrara as render engines compared to Vue 6 infinite?
Thread: New Galleries are here!!! | Forum: Community Center
I can only echo what practically everybody is saying about the cropping of the images once you have clicked on a thumpnail. Please revert to the old mode.
Reasons: The cropping destroys the visual impact of the very first view. Until last week all you saw was a little thumpnail that gave you an idea of the actiual image and made you curious. One click and you had the image in its entire glory on your big screen - we all tend to buy big screens because we love to have our images large, right? Now you get an inferior preview of the entire image and the initial chance to give a good impression is squandered.
I also prefer to scroll up and down between the large image in all it's glory and the comments. I prefer the image to cover my entire screen and to read comments by using my mousewheel. Now I can't do that any more. I get an inferior shadow of the real thing and below comments with distracting avatars. If I want to look at the real picture in it's intended size I have to click and scroll between different view windows.
That's a huge step back in terms of user friendliness and the joy of browsing galleries.
I also don't like the bombardment with unwanted info junk once I move my cursor ocross thumpnails. It's simply the opposite of relaxation.
I also hope that once you have fixed everything Renderosity will bother to implement my time-tested color-setting. I spend one or two hours with CSS to rectify the color changes in the gallery. However, Renderosity doesn't apply any color settings of mine to my new home page. My new home page also doesn't contain any of my inages, no gallery images and no text of mine. My old home page still has allt this, apart from the fact that it doesn't contain any images any more!
Summing up: I have no community home page any more, I have horrible color settings I can't even change, gallery use is annoying through cropped views - oh yes, and browsing is impssible for all practical purposes because the site takes forever to display anything.
I hope the speed issues will be resolved soon, but what about the rest?
How will this be rectified? Do I have to rebuild my community homepage as a result of these "improvements"?
Thanks,
Lookoo

Thread: Poser crashing on XP | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hmmmmm, that's interesting! I will try to be a lil more purist and try reinstalling stuff one at a time. So much seems to be clear by now: Compatibility issues of programs shouldn't exist but in a complex and imperfect world like this they do. For future reference, two separate systems is a luxury but apparently they help avoiding some problems. Thanks! LooKoo

With "evacuate" I meant copy all the stuff you want to keep from C partition to another partition and then uninstall/delete anything on the C partition. Then reinstall Windows on C and the necessary things like Word, Drivers, Internet browsers. I did have McAffee antivirus and still have it and used to run it once a month, maybe not often enough ;) Sooo... Scandisc, defragmentation, antispyware...? Maybe getting rid of Quicktime?(Silke just found out that to be a P6 issue...)? And getting the latest hardware drivers, of course. The funny thing is that everything worked well for seven months after I had done the evacuate C /flatten C /reinstall stuff on C thing. Before Poser would never finish a render before crashing. Afterwards everything was running again. BTW, how do I check if programs can coexist "step by step" when after my last C partition purge everything worked perfectly OK for 7 months? I am also pretty sure I didn't catch a virus again. The virus checks didn't show anything. Really odd... I am still pondering if I should follow the road to two separate computer systems - one for graphic works, one for the rest. I would really prefer to have it all on one machine. I will have to "evacuate" the computer lair because that's going to be turned into a room for my 8 months old daughter. And my wife prolly won't love it when I turn the living room into a computer command center with not one but two work stations ;) BTW, has anyone experienced pretty much the same actually? Or are we talking on a somewhat theoretical level here? Cheers, LooKoo

Thanks for the advice! Seems I will keep Windows XP and streamline my software portofolio ;) At the moment a defragmentation of the Poser/Vue harddrive is underway. I will prolly have to reinstall XP on C. At last that worked somehow last time. Good to hear that 2 Gigs works on Athlon 2600 and XP ? Sounds like the next best thing to do? Thanks again! LooKoo
