roobol, I had the same issue. Updating to bryce 5.5 worked fine, and it is useable again. i tried the OS9/classic thing for a bit but the graphics drivers suck. The only issue I've had with 5.5 so far is that selecting by family in the selection tools at the bottom will give me a 30% chance of a crash, so I just save often.

It's not that, it's that it has stayed basically the same for four years now, and the "entry level" of CG has risen. Bryce is a great conceot and you could really see a lot of new features from bryce 4 to bryce 5, but it's been a while and we've seen nothing approaching that level of update. Bryce 5.5 is more like bryce 5.1 with poser support, we want a bryce 6. Bryce 6 doesn't mean including every single wishlit feature, but it does mean solving some key issues such as render times, "advanced" render settings (which are present in most freeware renders now I might add), and some type of plugin architechture to allow for an accessory market and extra functionality. Doesn't Daz want to return on its investment? If so, it needs to sell new software that people like us are willing to buy. And to do that, there needs to be a significant new version of bryce.

I hope it's some carrara/bryce merge that takes the carrara render engine and hopefully keeps in tact the bryce work window and GUI. If not I'm writing my own 3D app and putting everyone out of business.

the intel macs are expected to be able to run Vista, but not XP, due to the lack of a BIOS boot interface. There is currently a $12,000 prize to whomever gets XP running on the new intel macs. You can do just about anything with these computers, they are great for modders. Get a slightly larger case from a piece of AV hardware, and put the guts of the mini in it. Make sure to cut a slit for the CD drive and remote port, and do a decent job lining p the rear ports. Now get a nice fat 3.5" hard drive and a 2.5" ATA to 3.5" ata adaptor with a short ribbon cable, and you have an awesome media center computer with PVR capabilities over the firewire port. SOme people have even rearranged the guts into cheap laptops, as the mini only draw 15 watts of power at peak performance. There's lots of fun projects out there, such as: The mac mini powered Darpa Team The millenium falcon mac mini THe mac mini colocation server and more car integration than you can shake a stick at. And it's so small...
