Thread: what's wrong?! | Forum: Bryce
Can we see a fully rendered image ? For the one above, it looks like you've over smoothed the glass mesh. Sometimes meshs surfaces will separate when smoothing at over 90 degrees. In Rhino, convert the glass to a mesh at greater resolution, then use the Tools / Polygon mesh / Weld function (welding perhaps not necesary, depends how you made it). In Bryce, smooth at 45 degrees first, if that still leaves facets, smooth with higher degree.

Rhino has a helix draw function, not double helix though. A good double helix can be made in Rhino by twisting a pair of bars, and twisting them again, and again, and again .....
Thread: Clipping and editing terrains... need advice | Forum: Bryce
Alexants, If you apply an effect by clicking once on the item, the effect is applied to all portions of the terain including those outside the clipped area. If you apply the effect by clicking and holding the item, then dragging left or right to apply the - or + effect, that effect is applied only to the clipped area. For example (just 'cause I think that was clear as mud) if you clip off the lowest part of a terain, then click on Spikes, spikes will appear on the whole terain including the lowest areas. If you click and hold on spikes, then drag to the right, spikes will not appear on the low area that was clipped off, only the upper area. Dragging left will put holes in the upper area and leave the clipped off area alone.

I was thinking more of a Cassablanca type scene, or an extreme action scene (what am I saying, this guy's feet merge with the ground). I leave for Hanoi in a few hours so I won't be able to see this site until April 2nd. Maybe James will find a girl friend in Vietnam ?

I got a fairly good desert effect by "carving" a gully out of the infinate plane using a negative terain, then using just a thin layer of haze the same colour as the ground and a good chunk of near cloudless sky. That gave a grood "endless desolate sand" kinda feel. All the terains textured in world space with the same texture (kinda goes without saying eh?). A little ambience on the ground helps the "its too bright" feel of the desert. Didn't manage to get the heat haze though. Check out the image on the link attached. There's another desertish image in my gallery but it cheagts but using twilight and cliffs across the horizon.Thread: March Challenge Entry | Forum: Bryce
My plans for the scene are now confirmed, James Penguin will live, sometime in April. But where (in what) do I put him ?
Thread: Some opinions please | Forum: Bryce
I like the "pool in a cavern" idea of the picture but the rock walls could use more depth to the texture. You might try blending in the crystaline fractal from the terain editor. The water can be given some more realism with a ripple radiating from the bottle, try some grey scale rings as a secondary bump on the water object.
Thread: Collaboration | Forum: Community Center
Including an "artist" field in the image upload that accepts multiple values would present an image with multiple artist names and allow the same post to be displayed in more than one artist's gallery. That way the results of a collaboration can be presented as such among the main gallery postings. Can the DB and display app be modified that way ? (is it worth it ?)
