Was that the link to the 'Cubed' babies Jenny and Dylan that I posted? If so you are very welcome.
I think they were on Content Paradise when first released. If you haven't already done so, check out the animations of them on the Cubed site. The animations are excellent IMHO and really sell ' this is a baby, not a scaled down adult' .

There are the cubed babies jenny and dylan, based on poser figures. They don't come cheap though...

Thread: The anti High Poly Poser Army :-) | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
This is an interesting discussion. I think it is good to test just how little resources are needed to get acceptable results. On that subject though I am curious about the gains and losses involved in a low resolution figure which uses a high resolution displacement map.
Surely the advantages of the low resolution figure, and its small footprint in resources is lost when a high resolution displacement map, presumably of several megabytes or more is applied to it to get the desired result. I can see that the displacement map might not be needed , or a lower resolution one might suffice for background figures. With models I have made I have always considered it a trade off. What details to put in polys, and what details to put into displacement maps, bearing in mind the resources consumed by both together.

What would Non-DAZ figure need to become poserdom mainstream?
Come with Poser?
Be heavily promotoed by SM?What else comes to mind?
(other then genitals... :P)

If I recall correctly Anton put things into the readme of Apollo stating that the figure could not be used as the basis for any other figure. I think he even went so far as to say the CR2 could not be reverse engineered. I also think he threatened to take the whole lot offline if anyone tried. Unless he has had a huge change of heart I doubt he would allow anyone to take over his work and rebuild it. It might be worth someone asking his permission, but without that I would say leave Apollo out of the game.

Well after reading this thread I must be more intelligent than I thought, because I use Poser and DS and I have no trouble adapting to DS, even though others consider it a huge challenge.. ( I agree though that a manual for DS would be a great help. )
I can't tell the OP what would make a new figure mainstream, but I would say if the consensus of opinion is that it should have all, or most, of the characteristics of genesis, then why re-invent the wheel? Why not put the effort into getting genesis in Poser, either by persuading SM to reconsider, or by creating the tools yourselves to make it work. That approach worked with the Luxrender adaptor..
Apart from a minority who would apparently prefer to cut off their own gentials rather than than use genesis, consider that making that adaptor would give you access to ready make content, and maybe more importantly a resonable guarantee that the figure is not going to fade into obscurity any time soon.
Edited to add: In light of some of the comments above
If a moderator or admin asks me not to discuss genesis then I will take notice, otherwise not.
have a nice day

Quote - I see that we can be neewbie in material room, render setting etc. but here we are experts ;)
I certainly don't claim to be an expert, although I did get kicked out of Sunday School aged 7, for drawing a bottom. ( Yes honestly... but I think they overreacted a bit , it wasn't even a good drawing. ). Drawing that bottom didn't lead to a life of sordid porn, but doing it in Sunday school might have consigned me to en eternity in the fires of hell I suppose. I guess I will find out one day.
"Is a knife dangerous? Do you give a knife to a 15 year old?"
I had a very sharp knife at 15, as sharp as a scalpel. I used it for model making. So far as I know I never took it outside the house, I had no reason to do so. I never thought of it as a weapon.

Paganeagle,
I agree with you so long as the child is not put in danger. After all what would have happened to young Mozart if his parents had insisted he should be outside getting fresh air, instead of inside practising piano...

That depends on the age of the child and, how recently I decorated the room they are in. ;-)

Hello Doc my old friend, I should have remembered you have tutorials on all this stuff. ;-). Too many things to remember and I'm sure I forgot stuff like um, what were we talking about....?
Oh yeah Zanzo The Doc here has loads of great tutorials and explains things a lot more clearly than I ever could. But watch out for that Naysay guy though, when he shows up it's usually trouble. ;-)

Zanzo,
Thanks for posting that. It is quite a complex procedure but fivecat clearly made it work, and I take my hat off to him/her for working that out. I haven't tried it so I can't comment on how easy it might get with practice.
If I was going to try it I would do a really basic morph in Zbrush to start, and see if I was following the procedure right, and getting predictable results, rather than spending a lot of time morphing and then finding I missed a step or misunderstood the procedue and all my careful morphing effort was wasted.

EnglishBob,
I'm very suprised to hear that.
Are you able to see if all the deltas are offset by the same amount, or do they vary? ( might be easier to detect if you export two bodyparts at extreme ends of the figure, for instance a fingertip from each hand ).
If all the offsets are the same then there is some translation going on (sorry if that is stating the obvious ) if they vary it could be one or more rotations, and to be honest my vector maths is nowhere near good enough to calculate rotation based on delta position of vertices at some unknown radius from one or more unknown centres of rotation. Sines cosines and tangents are about my limit lol.
OT I never did get my head around imaginary numbers, and the idea that you can use them in engineering design is kind of scary IMHO. It doesn't do though to spread that kind of thinking, because if enough people stop believing in imaginary numbers then all kinds of bridges an things might cease to exist .. lol
V4 also has hidden magnets and suchlike which could be moving things from the true zero, but I am guessing now.

WandW,
Thanks for that. I hope he is enjoying his trip. He is a really nice genuine guy and I was amazed how quickly he was able to identify and resolve issues that came up in the beta. He certainly is an asset to the community.
EnglishBob,
I have seen similar with trying to manually zero a figure. I think at least one of PhilC's plugins for Poser includes a 'superzero' which does work. Sadly I can't recall what it did that I missed at the time. It might be in Wardrobe Wizard included in Poser.

I would consider peer pressure in your decision.
Does he have friends who are likely to say 'Wow you got Poser, you can make all kinds of porn pictures with that and share them around" or even worse "You can get all kinds of stuff for Poser from +++ site without paying for it" Then I think it may be a bad idea because he is at risk from being thought of a a sleaze, and getting drawn into sordid places and bad ideas.
If he has the strength of character to resist those kinds of temptation ( and I would certainly warn him to avoid pirate content anyway) then ok.
