"I suppose if it did crash, it creates an AVI to that point and I could start from that frame to a new AVI file and there must be a shareware prog to combine AVI movies." if I'm reading this right, it can't be done. When a render crashes while ouputting to avi, the file will be corrupted. Not a program out there that can "fix" it to my knowledge. BMP sequences is the way to go next time, just a fail proof way of making sure your renders will get done :-) p.s. great movie! very impressive use of HDRI. Is the choppiness of the movie due to the framerate, compressor or is it just on my end?
Thread: Questions about animation settings | Forum: Bryce
sounds like quite an ambitious project! Im thinking this is gonna take weeks/months to render in Bryce (especially if you are thinking of volumetrics) but more power to you! Like it has been said when it comes to rendering, render out in bmp sequences which kinda sucks cause in every other program you can render out to tiff or tga which gives you an alpha channel (used for compositing and adding effects). Dont render to avi or quicktime cause you will have problems if you do large sequences. As far as editing you can get after effects/Premiere for a free 30 day trial. And I can see the idea for the car modeling idea but it might be tougher than you are imagining but I hope you have the patience for this cause it sounds like a fun project
Thread: Bryce vs Maya | Forum: Bryce
aldaron, I dont want to start an argument, but you do NOT have to add a modifier to resize an object in Max. You simply resize it (shorcut is the "r" key) as is the same in Maya. and if you mean change by editing vertices/polys then yes, just right click and change to editable poly/mesh. If you found the maya and bryce controls to be similar than thats your opinion. But I just want to make it clear to erosiaart that knowing Bryce's controls/UI will most likely not translate into knowing Maya's.
Thread: Bryce vs Maya | Forum: Bryce
"I've tried Maya and the controls and stuff are very close to Bryce, it's just a matter of learning HOW to do things in Maya vs Bryce. Materials are very different from the two programs and of course many more features." sorry Aldaron, gotta agree with Joker...no controls are the same (thinking about I dont think there is even one). They are as different as night and day...maybe even more different if thats possible :-) Just cause you learn Maya doesnt mean you have to give up Bryce. But it can be hard to get back into it. Ive been working with Max for about 1.5yrs and now exclusively Maya for 6months or so. And its hard to step back into Bryce which I tried last week and got really frustrated because the interface/controls and EVERYTHING is completey different. Once you get so used to one its hard to switch back. Obviously if you are looking for professional work, its damn hard to accomplish that with a pure Bryce BG. So you'll want to pick up a high end app or two and lock yourself in a room and practice :-) P.S. Maya's render systems are wonderful :-) (not trying to sway you, just some knowledge that may help you take the leap into the high-end 3d world).
Thread: Musical Suggestions...what do you listen to when you bryce? | Forum: Bryce
wow some very obscure and amazing bands. I havent heard of half of these, but Im gonna check a few of em to broaden my musical horizons :)
Myself, love classic rock: Skynyrd, Floyd, CCR, Jimi Hendrix, The who, The guess who, etc etc
some more recent stuff: Van Halen, Satriani, Aerosmith, ACDC, Metallica etc
Basically anything with awesome guitar licks which inspire me to attempt to play them myself :-)

Thread: Please help!! | Forum: Bryce
yeah...sorry to say...dont think there is anything you can do (not to my knowledge anyways). But to reiterate what danamo said...make sure next time you do sequence files instead of rendering straight to AVI or MOV. This prevents any cancellation/power issues because you can pick up where you left off. I have learned this the hard way like yourself...good luck

this site has blueprints for a '63 vette..although I dont know if your looking to model one, but im not sure theres a free one of that specific year out there... Id model one for ya...not for free though ;-)Thread: May Challenge WIP | Forum: Bryce
looking great. My main critique is the arm...since its so close, it has to have alot of detail. Either use a photo texture for it or paint one in an image editor. and maybe even get down to the nitty gritty by modelling individual hairs. This will bring out the composition and make this image excellent!! great start! Bug looks great
Thread: Serious question..is this nudity? | Forum: Bryce
yeah...what is nude about it? nothing borderline at all..there isnt ANY skin showing :) ...tough to have nudity without bare skin
Thread: So NOT CGI.. OT.. | Forum: Bryce
The tires are CG...thats what Ive read in several places anyways...its physically impossible for those tires to do that...however, sweet ad...seen in like a dozen times and is still mezmorizing

Bryce 5 is really cheap...but it all depends on what you are looking to get out of the application. Bryce is probably the best bang for its buck but if you NEED a faster renderer/ better overall program...than you may want to look into some of the higher end ones. However, Bryce is by far the easiest GUI Ive used in any 3d app (or most apps for that matter). So if your not willing to put up with a changed interface, then opt for Bryce 5.
Thread: WIP (work in pieces) | Forum: Bryce
I think Blog got a lil mixed up ddruckenmiller...according to your error messages, the program DOES NOT like tris (3 sided polys) nor does it like ngons (or polys with more than 4 sides). You ALMOST ALWAYS want to maintain quads when modeling however, importing it into 3dmax which usually has no probs with "non-quads", you shouldnt get that error message...but who knows good lookin model thus far

Stephen...I can get renders of Maya 5 and max 5.1 at my school...if you give me the scene file, I can put 2 more renders on there for ya!
Thread: Bryce or Vue 4 | Forum: Bryce
Bryce 6? Haha, thats a long story...dont hold your breath for that cause it may never happen, or more likely, it will be years before we seen any new version to Bryce. Dont know Cinema 4d all that well...have heard it is an excellent tool. I use both Max and Maya, and even though I like Max more its hard to give too many faults to Maya.
