Quote - What part of It's ILLEGAL due to the DMCA do you (and the rest of the DAZ vendors that pop in here) not understand? AFA the "So many interesting characters for the genesis figures" - Those would be the characters you sell at DAZ, right?
As a DAZ vendor I have spoken to DAZ often about ways of better implementing genesis into poser, and there is nothing illegal if poser were to write code to get it there natively. DAZ is open to that and was working with them to actually get that happening.
So no sense you harping on anything being illegal here...it simply is not so. SM can write code that can get it working if they wanted to...with DAZ's blessing and even with their help.
..and yeah...my characters are cool..it is true...but there are others LOL

Thread: Mouse recommendations? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Attached Link: My Mouse Here
Someone once recomended to me using a gaming mouse for 3d work, and just last year I finally splurged and got one. It is great. It was much more expensive, but so very worth it.Gaming mice are made to be durable and very sensitive, so they are perfect for 3d work. Plus, since I am working with it all day every day...having something durable is very important (I was going through a logitec mouse a year for a while.
Here is what I use: http://www.ttesports.com/Mouse/134/Level_10_M_Hybrid/productPage.htm?a=a&g=ftr
Thread: making art standout against all the other art with the same content? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Someone said earlier that it is about developing a "style", and that is so true, making a style that is your own will set your work apart from others.
There is also a difference between making a render and making something that is "art". Everyone can set up a scene and hit render, and that is why 80% of the poser artwork looks the same. But those who take the time to attempt to make "art" from it, will really get noticed for their art, not their software.
This is something I have found for myself the last couple year. I used to be content to set up a scene and click render and be all proud of myself. But when I started comparing what I had to other artists that I admire, I started seeing huge shortcomings in what I did. Setting up a cool scene is easy enough, but setting up a cool shot is different. You have to look at things like camera angles, lighting, DOF, colour palette, and a ton of other things that will really help create somethign unique from your shots.

Thread: Which would you rather have? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
ssgbryan...I assume that DSON rant was in regards to my post about Genesis.
The topic of this thread is "what would you like to see in poser"..so my wanting Genesis to be able to work in poser is not an unreasonable post. There are so many interesting characters for the genesis series of figures that cannot be made for any other figures. So of course I would want that in poser.
Also, DSON is a patch, nothing more. Having that integrated into poser is not a solution, it is still a patch. The programmers at SM SHOULD be able to properly code something so that a patch would not be required. Proper code always makes things work better than patches.
(Also...HW did not make a figure that works cross platform, they made 2 figures with two different riggings...so that is a BIG difference)
Thread: Which would you rather have? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
to be able to read genesis (1-2) figures properly without DSON
Easier functionality in material room
get rid of face room and hair room
Thread: which poser version was the most FUN? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Poser 4 and Poser 6
Both those were BIG jumps in what the program could do, and made for exciting changes.

Thread: Wanted ,The Crew. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Would it not make more sense, that if you enjoy modelling that you make morphs for dawn and dusk rather than trying to introduce yet another new figure?
The HW already have a very strong crew making the figures..they just need the support to keep them active and vital to the poser community.
Last thing the poser community needs is another new figure with minimal support.
Thread: Thoughts of a departed Moderator | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
The sad part is the "you are either with us or against us" attitude that has prevailed in these forums the last few years. It has kept me from posting many times.
The reality is that both poser and D/S exist in the same world and can be used in similar ways and have similar products....and will generate similar discussions. Discussions that people enjoy getting involved with...or they would if they dont get treated like they are not part of the elite "He-Man-Program-Haters Club" (yeah...you gotta a certain age to catch that reference LOL).
I will be glad to see some open minded changes here, where people can talk freely about eiher program and not get beaten down for it.I use both programs...and it has not caused my computer or brain to explode LOL
I am nostalgic about this place..it is true, because it used to be a fun place to hang out and talk.

Thread: Is there an official Poser Manual for content developers? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
It used to be the go-to book for developers, alot of information in it.
But like you said, it is a bit out of date with the new tech like weightmapping....but it definitely will give a solid background for most things you would need to know as basics.
I think there may be more recent versions than the one i linked......but the one for poser5 is the one i have in my library ;)

It has been a while since I looked in the book...but wouldnt "Poser-Secrets of figure creation" cover that info?
(Since you were looking for a book)

Thread: Is hobby 3D a dyng art? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
morph brush is no use to me...I build my morphs in zbrush.
Since I just make characters (morphs and textures) the other tools dont do much for me.
Like I said....my decision is all based on how "I" use poser, and what "my" needs are.
I still use poser regularly for my art, and I am constantly making poser specific materials in poser. (and I do find it really weird that I have to justify my poser use LOL....after all these years i would hope it is obvios LOL)

Apart from progressive rendering none of the other stuff have any meaning to me, and as such "for me" not enough to warrant buying the new version.
So you're saying Poser isn't selling well because you didn't want to upgrade?
No...I said I questioned how well it is selling because of how it was released.
My not feeling the need to upgrade is simply my personal choice, since what they put in the new version was of only a minor improvement to me and my needs.

Quote - Since you are DS user I can see that subdivision and the fitting room are not of major interest to you. For most people however they were the improvements these users asked for. So it is well worth the investment if you are a serious poser user
Ummm....I have been using poser and making products for it for well over a decade now. What makes you think I am not a poser user?
Contrary to the beliefs of some, people can happily use both softwares. I use whatever software works for what I need for my art.
I also build my poser and d/s products individually in each program.
There is no competition in my book.
