I don't know whether I need to change modelers, or simply become a more diligent student of Hexagon, but my latest foray into modeling (after many years of absence) yielded the object I wanted, but wouldn't let me apply an image map. At least, not a VISIBLE image map. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?! Anyway, just venting: this post doesn't really belong here.
It's especially weird because I CAN put a procedural noise texture on the thing. Methinks I've spent too many decades as a dilettante.

I just threw this one together.
For something just "thrown together", it's pretty damned good!

I completely forgot to give them expressions. Maybe she doesn't like the lieutenant much?V4 does look a bit piqued on that transporter pad. She doesn't take that mode of transportation very well, does she?
Much to my intense annoyance, I can no longer remember the steps I used for the masking process. I'm going to have to re-invent that process----and take notes this time!

LOL! Hopefully, for the prototypes, they only used guinea pigs, sea slugs, and politicians for testing. Crewmembers are EXPENSIVE!It is a prototype transporter. That's why you never saw them in Star Trek, they were goop on another transporter pad right after that scene....... lol
Cool render regardless

Thanks! Yeah, I kinda realized that after I finished compositing and all. I think I'll create three sizes for the animated "sparks": one for closeups, one for medium shots, and one for more distant shots. It's just a matter of changing the scale settings and rendering three times. Or maybe I'll just lazy and do two. They made do with just one size, so I can possibly live with that. (This is particularly visible in the closeup beam-out at the end of Elaan of Troyius, where they had to duplicate the effect a couple of times for the closeup shot.)Very cool. Might be more along the lines of Star Trek if you reduce the size of the effect to something that resembles smaller "sparks"

I had to Google how to do images with alpha channels (which lead me to an older thread here on Renderosity; seems that the method depends on whether you're using FireFly or Superfly).
Then I got out my handy dandy copy of GiMP and composited this by hand. I need to learn GiMP's scripting language, because I am not going to create a ten second long animation by hand.

My previous effort at posting doesn't seem to have taken, for some reason. At any rate, I couldn't remember how to create a Poser image with an alpha channel but fortunately, Google remembered this thread for me. Now I have to learn GiMP's scripting language so I can automate creating an animation. Doing it by hand for 300 frames would be tedious.ol

Let me suggest the obvious, first, by suggesting a search of the Recycle Bin. That has saved my bacon (and some of my files) more than once.Surely they are still somewhere and I can overcome my laziness to look for them. Hahahaaaa :))

Thanks to everyone contributing to this thread. In addition to all the amazing renders there is also much to learn! Here's my take with the scatter volume using Afrodite-Ohki's cube and lights from the LevelUp expansion. Flink's sky, ShaaraMuse3D's scenery, Ken _Gilliland's birds used.
Beautiful work!
I wish I'd been feeling better so I, too, could have been experimenting with volumetrics.

On a whim, I checked the Poser 13 content files at PoserSoftware to see if they had been changed. They have.
On June 2nd, and June 6th, a total of three files were changed. P6 James, L'Homme, and La Femme file 1.
As I hadn't heard anything, I figured no one else had, either.

That is one versatile carpet!. And your uses of existing primitives is quite creative, as well. The carpet again... the HighRes tablecloth... the ball... doesn't look the way I wanted it to, but I'm out of breath now. Maybe later...
Thank's TheAnimaGemini...
