Marie- I feel your pain. :) At Zygote we also use Poser3 all the time. We want our products as well as our weekly free models to have the widest audience possible. As a result, they are almost always created in P3. (Though when they do require exclusively P4 functionality we work in P4, of course.) Also, I have to admit, P3 requires less memory than P4, so we usually use it to create the images for our site as well. As far as your concern that Poser3 and 4 users will still have access to new models that will still work in 3 and 4, I think that you're okay for the most part. Though I can't speak for Curious Labs, I know that they are very concerned about backwards compatibility, and will not change the model format. Your more realistic concern is that people will start creating models that require conforming clothing, transparencies, or other P4 functions, or that they modify the extra content that is included in P4 (or eventually will be in P5). It's a tough decision. Ultimately P3 will be fairly obsolete for file trading purposes, I would imagine. Poser2 currently seems to be in that situation. (Zygote certainly doesn't sell anything for P2.) I'm sorry for this negative side to improving a product, especially as Zygote is a major contributor to it. However, just for the record, Zygote does not make any money from Poser sales, and would certainly not intentionally modify models for a new version of Poser so that users had to buy a new version of something that they already had. Thanks for the feedback, Marie. -Chad Zygote Media Group
Thread: Victoria goes Ethnic. Thanks Zygote for the morphs | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
You're certainly welcome for the morphs, James - you've done some great work here. Beautiful images! I have to agree with Gawain, too. You artists here in the Poser community are probably the best advertising we at Zygote have. Because of that, and because we do have many clients that are not as tapped in to the community as you all are, Zygote is going to be hosting a gallery soon specifically to showcase work done with the Victoria figure. (You can send images and questions to gallery@zygote.com). Anyway, what I'm getting to here, James, is a request for you to submit some of this work you're doing to the Vickie gallery. We'd love to post some of your images on our site. Thanks. -Chad Zygote Media Group
Thread: Zygote Millenium Man / Millenium Women | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hmmmm, interesting stuff. Those factors make a lot of sense to me. It will be interesting to see what the effects will be when we release the Millennium Man. I imagine that, although Victoria had a lot of competition with all that's been done for Posette, there won't be nearly as many people anxious to cling to the "Poser dork". :) -Chad

Yes, Zygote will create at least a couple of hairstyles specifically for the new man, and they should be much more realistic than the current male styles available. (Is it just me, or does Posette have a lot better options available for hair than the poor Poser man?) These hairstyles will be sold seperately from the man, as with those Zygote made for Victoria. Thanks for all the support and feedback! -Chad

If that's the case, then don't worry. The Man's head and body will be created "from scratch", certainly not using Victoria as a starting point. -Chad

Thanks for the input, Tribe. :) I'm not sure what you mean by "milli on steroids", however. Could you explain that a little more specifically so that we'll be able to watch out for that? The other two sound like good pointers; I'll keep them in mind for when we get to that point. Thanks again. -Chad
Thread: Vicky's eyes fixed | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I like the character a lot; she seems very believable to me. (Perhaps because she reminds me so much of someone I used to know.) Keep up the great work! (And feel free to submit work like this to Zygote's soon-to-come Victoria gallery: gallery@zygote.com) -Chad Zygote Media Group
Thread: Boy can that Victoria pose | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
This is the third image of yours I've seen that is really quite impressive. Please submit some of your art to Zygote's Victoria gallery that's coming soon! (gallery@zygote.com)
Thread: Millie neck | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I was told by Larry Weinberg that this is a problem that should have been fixed in the latest Poser patch. If you don't trust installing the patch the problem in quickly remedied by translating the innermatsphere for the twist rotation of the Upper Neck group ever so slightly in x (.0001 for example). Thread: Trouble with Zygote Knight and Walk Designer | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Gawain- Some time after the release of the knight it was pointed out to Zygote that there was a problem with the rotations on the feet and hands. We've since fixed this problem, but it sounds like you may have the first version. (The problem was easily visible when applying pose, and might also account for your problems with the walk designer.) If you contact Eric Allen here at Zygote, he'll get you fixed up with the updated .cr2 file(s), just to make sure. His email address is: eallen@zygote.com I apologize for the inconvenience. Feel free to tell anyone else who may have purchased the knight before the fix that there's an improved version available. Thanks.
Thread: Fingers | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I may be replying too late to be of any help (I only skim through the forums once a month or so), but I'll try. Almost all of Zygote's figure models (and all of the Poser figures) are symmetrical. And even though different programs have different scaling preferences, etc, I've never heard of a modeling package that translates its origin in X. In other words, the hands on any model we've made should be positioned symmetrically around the Y axis. (In fact, this is how we build them: mirroring and welding in Wavefront.) You've got the right idea though, Kevin. The reason that mirrored geometry won't work as a morph target for the opposite side is because (although the number and position of vertices is identical) the vertex numbering is not identical, unfortunately. The reason that Zygote's symmetrical models are not vertex-ordered symmetrically is because the weld command in Wavefront re-orders all of the vertices. It's a huge pain for us, too. Just in the way of interest: In Mirai (my favorite polygonal modeling package) there is a way to solve this problem. Unfortunately, since Zygote has many copies of Wavefront and only a couple of copies of Mirai, we use Mirai pretty exclusively for our higher-end clients. But on the bright side, we never give any freebies to our higher-end clients either! :) Hope this info helps -- or at least is informative (as information should be, I suppose.) -Chad Zygote Media
Thread: It really sucks when people try and take credit for your hard work | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I feel your pain, Communion. (Though I should add that I know nothing about this particular situation.) What really, really sucks is when people take credit for your work and then sell it, too! (Especially when they didn't even pretend to modify or add anything to it.) Hummm... that felt good. I'm glad to be able to vent my frustration on people who understand. Thanks!
