I love the pipe in the foreground and the web, but the pipes in the background detract from the composition. I don't argue the validity of their presence, I just believe they might make it work better if they were moved, perhaps downward. Also I think they need something to break up their lines, such as brackets that hold them to the wall. Lastly, a little more differentiation between the cinder blocks and the mortar would add positively to the image. The main pipe and valve and spiderweb however are perfect. Great work!

I think Keith may have discovered your problem! You have your transparency set to 0% which makes the layer clear. I am assuming you are trying to make glass windows. The layer you're trying to make the window in is just that, a layer, on top of the surface of the rest of the model, so if you have it transparent, the texture underneath shows through. That's most likely why you aren't seeing your windows!

Use UV Mapper, the address is in one of the previous messages in this forum. What resolution are you running at on your monitor? I am at 1600 by 1200 and that image is twice the width of my display!

I don't yet model in Carrara because I have gotten a bit overly familiar with the interface in Rhino and can't bring myself to try and jump the gap to start modeling in Carrara. Tonight I will try out your tips, and hopefully have the final image to post soon!

I actually modeled it in Rhino and imported it as a 3ds file. Perhaps if I tried importing it as a spline object it might come out better.
Thread: Who owns Carrara? | Forum: Carrara
I have never seen a demo of Carrara, but when I read the specifications on Metacreations.com I simply went out and bought it (the $350 was not cheap fer me either). I like Carrara, and in fact have it open right now rendering a scene I am working on.

Hmm, answered my own question. The surface and effects fidelity under scene work wonders!
Thread: Looking for the best price. | Forum: Carrara
I got my copy on buy.com after pretty extensive research. They had the absolute lowest price I could find. Also buy.com is very reputable, and reliable. I have spent probably close to a grand there and have never had even the slightest problem with them.

What's the color depth on your monitor? If you have it set less than 24 or 32 bit color then things will look kinda "sectional". Photoshop does a very good job of dithering images that are made with more colors than the screen resolution supports. You might find that if you raise your color depth then the image will look nice everywhere instead of only in Photoshop.

100%of the image was done in Photoshop. I've since revised it so that the rivers don't stand out quite so much...

The bricks look great, as do the windows and garage door. It would look rather realistic if you stuck in a light hanging over the door of some sort, and stuck either a spot or bulb light inside the model. Oh, and the grates under the windows are cool too, didn't notice them at first.

Love the new wood shader on the title, and the distance fog is a good touch too. Overall just a really good image.

Actually those were used primarily for Darth Vader's lightsaber and Luke's in Return of the Jedi. The components of Obi Wan's lightsaber are (from left to right on the image) A British sink drain, the casing of a British rifle grenade, the battery holder clip from a Graflex flash gun, a miscelaneous British lawnmower part, and a British sink handle. Dunno why all the parts are british, but aparently they are.
