Can we be fair and say that for those of us who have 64 bit - it is certainly an option worth looking at - others maybe if they can fit it in their workflow?
PP may have been bagged here but I have seen other threads degenerate into 64 bit vs 42 bit arguments as well as XP 64 bit vs Vista 64 so all in all people have been well behaved here...

I'll give you my opinion...
I am absolutely furious that they did not include 64bit versions of the Poserfusion plugins.
That they call it a "Pro" application and limit it in this way is beyond my comprehension.
PoserPro has been market as being all about getting your data into professional apps AND harnessing the poser of 64bit computing. Now we find out these two features are basically INCOMPATABLE!!! You can either render in 64bits, OR get your data into other professional packages (in 32bit only)
I've posted this before elswhere - and I'm sorry for the double post - but I've been waiting over a year for Reiss to fulfill their "any day now" promise of 64bit compatibility.
Excuse my ignorance on higher end applications but which of those other applications are currently 64 bit?
My initial thought was that it is pointless to have a 64 bit plugin if the program you are exporting to is only 32 bit....

Quote - My problem is that the features in Pro Base, the version that would suit most of us, are the sort of features that I would expect to see in Poser 8. If these features are not in Poser 8, other features will be, meaning that I would have to switch between two version of Poser to get use of the different features. Alternatively, a new version of Pro may be released along with the new version of Poser. Do I switch upgrade paths now? Will I need to buy the pro pro if pro base doesn't have the same upgrade path? I don't want to pay an extra $50 for a bunch of real pro featues that I won't use. So, do I pay $150 now for Poser 7.9 or wait a while longer for Poser 8?
I think we need some clear statement regarding where Poser is going.
If you check on Smith Micro's site you will find that even if you take the crossgrade offer your serial number will still be good towards an update to Poser 8 and your copy of Poser Pro will be good to use for future upgrades along the PP path.
So this release is not an upgrade per se it is a new program being offered at a special price to Poser 6 and 7 owners.

So basically, any file that looks up the Poser executable is pooched.
That should make things interesting with Vic 4 and Aiko 4......

I suppose my question is do our python scripts still work?
Or will we need to wait for updates on the various scripts available?
My thoughts as to price - well I paid $AUD 399 for Poser 3 back in 1999 so I don't think that $AUD 528 for Poser Pro in 2008 is all that much of a price increase in 9 years - 'specially given the feature difference between Poser 3 and Poser Pro.....
I think we may have been spoiled with upgrade prices along the way from the 20th Century - I'll quite happily pay the $AUD 209 to upgrade - even if it is just to get 64 bit compatibility - I have the technology - may as well use it.
I am only hanging on to see what reports come out over the next few days....

The processor I have, Dual Core 2.8 GHz, is 64 bit, but the motherboard and memory seem to be 32 bit. I also have two SATA drives, and research makes it seem very difficult to install SATA drives on 64 bit systems (requiring a floppy drive of all things, and in the 21st century - that's just sloppy of M$). I don't want to buy XP Pro 64 or a Vista 64 OS, and botch the instalation because of the SATA drives.
Do any virsions of Vista 32 bit allow for more program memory than the 2GB limit of Mediacenter?
LMK
?????????
I have SATA HD's on my 64 bit machine and no floppy....... no problems here installing Vista Ultimate 64

Quote - heh, had to join the artzone in order to get the free update... so artzone is pretty much "myspace for the 3D crowd"???
Joining Artzone will get those who don't have V4 - a copy of her for free. Also those who join will get the Male morphs - also for free. And it seems as though you will get it a day before it's "real" release
All those who already own V4 or V4.1 will have their downloads reset on DAZ after the release - DAZ have made it clear that V 4.2 is a free update - not a new figure - only those who don't already own her or who haven't joined the Artzone Party will have to pay for her.

What surprises me is that more Vista users don't step up to say what a load of garbage most of it is.
As I said earlier in this thread - no real issues here with Vista Ultimate X64 - apart from Poser 5 and FaceShop Pro 3.5 everything else has worked fine.
Have been using Vista Ultimate on an AMD 3200+ 32 bit with 2 GB ram - no real issues there apart from again FaceShop Pro.
I also run Vista Home Basic on my notebook - Acer 5220 Celeron 1.7 with 2 GB ram - I will admit that the 512 MB ram that it came with didn't cut it as far as Vista is concerned - it needs at least a 1 GB.
Like it or love it - it's an individual thing and all I can say is I am happy working with Vista.
Apart from the desktop icons as mentioned before.

I don't know about M$ not making XP anymore but XP is available all over the place. I see it in stores and online (even my computer guy has XP Home and XP Pro available). Many pre-built computer systems have now gone back to offering XP as an option. M$ intends to continue support of XP for five more years - that desparate huh? And with MSDN, I don't have to see the inside of a Vista disc for quite a while.
Your point is taken and valid - but I would question as to how many unopened copies of XP 64 bit are still out there on the market - to take advantage of the extra ram you really need the 64 bit OS.
I'm thinking that at the time that XP 64 bit was produced not a lot of people were quick to adopt 64 bit technology - it's only just now it is starting to take hold and it is of no real benefit for anyone to put a 32 bit O/S on a 64 bit machine it won't perform to it's fullest.
Your local Computer guy may have XP still in stock - I would have to shop around and go for a hunt on ebay or at a swap meet to find an unopened copy of XP and then 64 bit are as rare as hens teeth.
Depends on where you live and the attitude of resellers what will be available - and remember I am stating unopened - I would hate to run the chance of buying a copy of XP only to find that it wouldn't activate......
So perhaps we should be careful what we say - as someone new to computers could stumble upon threads like this and get the impression that they can go out and buy a nice new 64 bit machine and pick up a 2nd hand copy of XP Pro and throw on it and it will be a whiz bang machine.
