When I'm using a png file with a photo for instance, I find the same issue, the .png flame is transparent so the photo shows through. I either layer the .png file over itself several times, giving it more substance, or in a new layer flooded with black or any color you want, i layer the png file, then erase all the background color except that which i want to be behind the png. Then I merge. Now I have a pspimage file, and I can layer that over the photo. Sounds convoluted, I'm sure there is a better and easier way, but I haven't found it yet. 
Perhaps someone else has some ideas.
 

Just my thoughts:   
are you leaving yourself open to have your works scattered all over the place, to be used by anyone who feels like it? Just because she has permission (and apparently she didn't wait for that before posting one of your works on her site) to post your work doesn't guarantee that it won't be miss-used or sold somewhere else. Is she copy protecting it so it can't be downloaded easily?

Beth, I don't think that transparency box has anything to do with how it renders. If you want it to render without the background, go into "options", click on the "display" tab, and look on the bottom left and make sure that PNG Transparency  on "enabled". 
Now your flames will be rendered as PNG files, and you can layer them any way you want in PSP or PS or whatever program you are using.
Does that answer your question? I'm lousy at explanations ..

I would be interested in such a forum. I wouldn't have much to contribute, but I would love to learn more about it. I use it for certain things, and like it, better then PSP for some things. I only have PF, not PFS.

Interesting .. I've had the same problem with much smaller sizes for thumbnails. One was recently resized for me after I put it in at 8. something K! 

Hey! It would be great if we had a room all our own! That way, as Dinhi said, you can pop in anytime at all. My schedule is so erratic that it's hard for me to commit to a specific time and day. With a room all our own .. I can pop in whenever, so can someone from the other side of the world, regardless of time and day!

Thanks all of you for replying. Part of the fun of fractals for me is seeing what I can make of them. I wasn't sure if this was the place to post those, or if they should go under mixed media. I sort of like mixing pieces of fractals, pieces of photos, or just pieces of fractals layered to make something entirely different then the original fractals were. Not good at it .. but I keep trying
