I think it's a problem with RuntimeprefsLibraryPrefs.xml Try making a copy of the above file and put somewhere safe, then delete the original. You should now be able to start Poser 5, but you will need reconnect any extra Runtimes you've added. If you open the copy in Internet Explorer you may get a more helpful error message. You could try going to the Python Scripting Forum and try using the ability to attach a text file to a post, as it may be possible to fix either the file or at least determine the underlying cause of the problem.

You need to enable the java plugin for IE, look in the Control Panel for the icon. You may need to change some of IE's Java settings, goto Tools | Internet options, Security tab, Internet zone and look for Java permissions. It's also possible the chat may need a newer version than you have installed.See the thread in the Hardware / Technical forum (link attached)

The answer I got was "sometime this week". This was from W.H. Smiths. The lack of precision was due to them not having got it yet (the assistant rang what I'm assuming was their distribution centre).

The same rules of isolation that apply to email attachments would apply to scripts that you download / receive. If you don't trust the source (both senses) of the script, don't run it. Most suspicious would be unexplained uses of sockets. If anything like you mention was created it would be classed a a Trojan due to the fact that the user would have to run for it to be able to do anything.

"What is the python scripting capable of?"
Just about anything, see www.python.org for general things, the Scripting Forum, the Free Stuff, and DAZ for examples of what can be done in a Poser context.
"Can it do file format conversions?"
"Modify bvh for specific characters?"
Yes to both, but you'll probably not find ready made scripts for most conversions.
BVH is just data in text format so, it could be converted, but again I'm reasonably certain that nothing off the shelf exists.
If you have something specific in mind, just start a thread with some details.
Thread: Out memory... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Ok, XP and uncompressed video rules out a few things.
Most important, how big are the frames? and what is the frame rate?
How big is your Virtual Memory set for?
If you have more than one drive, is there plenty of space on each?
Try using the task manager to see how much memory Poser is using (you need to look at both the Mem Usage and VM Size columns) and how the amounts change as rendering progresses.

Have you installed the memory update for Poser 4 ?
What OS are you using ?
What codec did you select for the animation ?

Try the Python scripting forum (link attached). It's worth taking a look through previous posts to see if this is a known problem. Otherwise, be sure to give plenty of relevant details, e.g. Type of computer, OS etc., Poser version, what script if one supplied with Poser or if it's one of your own post the script, what the script is supposed to be doing, what was selected when you got the error, have you been able to run this script before without problems, if so something about what might have changed / is different since it last worked. You don't need to give this all at once, but the more you can helps.Thread: Poser5 Python Script Pallette - Scripts vanish | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
You need to edit scripts in RuntimePythonposerScripts and subdirectories.
The first one you need to look at, is mainButtons.py which loads the initial menu.
This script contains the names of the scripts used to load the submenus.

It's probably an anti-spam measure which prevents images from being fetched until your sure you want to see them.
(If you open an HTML formatted email and let it fetch images etc. you are effectively confirming your email address as a live one).
Thread: How to get the complete dynamic hair? | Forum: Poser Technical
Only the geometry for the guide hairs is saved or exported. You'll have to use a Python script to access the extra geometry and output it.

Windows 98 imposes a limit on how much memory each program can use (someting like 128Mb IIRC), which means that anything memory hungry will run in to trouble.
Thread: Injection Magic Question | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
One you can do to help DAZ help you is make a note of things that are different between the machine you can get working on and the one you can't, such as version of Internet Explorer, DirectX etc.
Sorry I can't help much more as I don't have it (yet).

If this is happening when you first start the program, you could try using one of the compatability modes.
I don't have an XP machine to hand right now, but IIRC this is how you do it (look it up in Windows Help to be sure).
Find the .EXE file and right click on it, and select properties.
One of the tabs (Advanced ?) will have the option to set a compatability mode. Choose Windows 98 and click OK.
