Thank you RHaseltine I had observed over time the props tend to be more consistant with their use of the default Daz shaders and scrub up pretty good I might drop a Iray gold on a chain or paint job on a car/bike to make it pop in a scene most of it stays default. Export they get a different set anyway. The characters have been far more progressive in this department I am actually more familiar with the current set up through my work outside of Daz like Indigo Renderer/Materials, Substance Painter/Designer and Substance textures which are now available in my UE4 via the plug so it is all lining up nicely Daz included. It is a good thing for Daz users getting Iray I run Indigo and Renderman (Plus a few I will leave be on here) and while they do give different results all excellent IMO Iray stacks up against them....... Good price too :-)

Okay sorry RHaseltine I havent had much to do with the Genesis 3 up until this come up I had loaded her a total of 3-4 times if I was lucky. I thought the Genesis 3 was optimized for Iray and loaded with the Iray mat and you wouldn't get Lighting Model unless of course you somehow added something from earlier version like the default Daz shaders you would see with the genesis 2 although you got the optional Iray optimized Mats for them with 4.8? I loaded the G3F and nothing else then loaded point light that was fine you can then add 19 G3F's and it will stay the same.... all bright and cheery. Add anything else character or prop then the items added went to the dark even Victoria 7 which is different again. Add a distant light and your back at least you could see to pose what you just added. At no stage did I have the Lighting Model available until I added Aiko or the bike prop which obviously carry the default Daz shaders.
PS I am not questioning your comments as the explanation RE the Lighting Model is spot on, I value your opinion and just curious myself now. If my OCD kicks in I'll be up all night :-)

Okay sorry I read you put light there I should have refreshed screen first as I got sidetracked.
I replicated what you did
Here is the thing that went well even tried some cloth
Then I thought I add another character so I add Genesis male and Aiko 3 Here is result.
Since I normally set my whole scene with headlamp only and in most cases export. It appears if you set a point light etc to a scene and add stuff after it does not appear to calculated the new object. this includes characters and props. Now there must be way to recaluclate the light. So you delete the pointlight and all your characters and props appear again. Add point light back and only the originals (in my case 2 x Gen 3 females. but the prop(added for good mesure) and characters I added after are back to black. You can rectify it by adding a distant light. But I guess since I set up first and leave camera, lighting and rendering to last I was not even aware of this myself.
Adding distant light would be a fix but leaving lighting to last would help considerably. I will have to look now and see if there is way to recalculate the light as I have option to do so in other software chances are Daz would have it hiding somewhere

If you look at your two screenshots and the loaded content there is a point light added to the second character load. I am not sure if you put that there trying to resolve issue but It is not in the first load I would select the pointlight in the scene tab in the top left pane on screen right click choose delete selected item. You might find it will disappear and the character would look more like the one on left with the light gone. I have a many Poser sets more props than characters to load into Daz if I choose the light option/s or a full scene set I get same result you have going here The plastic (Lighting mode) etc options is more how the light reacts to the selected material if you had character with a shiny suit and left it at plastic the material would have a plastic almost glass like finish at render, if you were to choose the matte there would be little if not no shine at all.

Thread: DAZ STUDIO 4.7 un-install | Forum: DAZ|Studio
@RHaseltine I sent him the sku check along similar lines to try too. The content he has missing should show up. I think the DIM is considering the products are already on his system so not showing up in the download available pane. Had similar issues in past wasn't showing up in the installed either it took Daz to disconnect and reset at their end give it a jolt to solve it. Sometimes the bundle purchase can cause the issue a product in a bundle may have a different sku so you can actually buy it twice it won't show as available in DIM with the newer purchase but will go in your product library as update.

I am still yet to work out if the green button is just decoration to make you feel better or it does actually do something so don't go losing any sleep over that.Maybe it just triggers a quicker response from your DIM to get things ticking along as I have at times never gone near it and my downloads are waiting for me. Best do a little test and get you back on track. I will send you a sitemail with some instructions. You wont need to be rocket scientist but you will have to be 100% accurate with the input or it will do nothing. Regards Johnny G

Okay my friend this is the My Product advice page from the Daz website and while you could download and install from there I was wondering if you had clicked on the White Tab "Get Install Manager" If since you ordered Daz 4.8 this is as far as you got then. Make sure you are logged into your account and click on the get Install manager then go through the regular process you would installing any other program Run accept and install. Once that is done then log into Install Manager and give a minute or two and your products will show up. In your case once DIM is up and running you could select all in the download tab (Except the Mac software as u are Windows and choose if you are on a 32 bit or 64 machine) This would set everything up correct and install proper We are looking for this as in pic.
If you have tried to download the "Install manager" already and it has failed then you would need to contact Daz so they can check their end you are showing up on their system and it is not blocking your download. Hover over the Get Install Manager if it turns black with yellow text it is a live link if it does nothing it's a dead link

Thread: Photometric Point Lights not rendering... | Forum: DAZ|Studio
I messed around with this for a while then I figured why not recreate real life so I went and got me a iRay light kit comes with many light props including a studio lighting setup, spots, street lights etc. I slide that out of the render view if required and adjust it to suit. Brings a little real extra world feel to it too. Character holding a lantern with the prop in full view is equally as pleasing. Street/house lights have changed my life in my Daz scenes I am currently working on. I must say probably my purchase of the month except I am addicted to Dreamland Models City block sets and cars from upstairs here at Rendo to use in animation had to get a few in to compliment my new lights so narrowly beaten on that score :-) but major compliment. In animation I can hide actual light props I add but leave the effect which turn out great over and above the eqiv "set lights" similar to the iRay/3Delight default options. So I can get headlamp on a car to glow it does not throw the beam I strap a torch per headlight for example and hide the prop leaving the perfect beam ahead of car as goes up road switch on, off, high, and low beam etc. I hope the same hide ability will be in Daz no reason why it won't just haven't had chance to try it. Either way my quick results to date are just great in comparison. I do know there is nothing more natural than using real lights or recreations at least in my sets for shadow fall acuracy You need to to get u some total Iray lighting my friend.

Thread: Genesis 3 | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Hi Ian
The Genesis 3 female is part of the standard download of the current Daz Studio software so she would have automatically come down the wire to you along with some other products when you did your install to help start you off. Nice character too renders up well.

Thread: Genesis 3 | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Hi radioham it can take a little while to get used to all the features and functions Daz Studio software has offer. Then they add more :-)
You should find your Genesis 3 in the
-Smart Content library you won't see the face of actor as it is a pack/bundle but you should see a colorful can't miss it cover thumb. (Pic)
-You will also find your Genesis 3 in the Content Library under Products >G. Products Library is a handy source and quickest when I need something. That is if you can remember what the product name is. The product library contains only products you purchased thru Daz
-Daz Studio FormatsYou need to click and start opening the file tree in Content Manager > Daz Studio Formats as selecting the first older will not give you result.
Hope this helps
