Very well done, lux. You don't even need screencast keys, because you described everything perfectly.
Thread: about clamp size and scale on import and export | Forum: Blender
Clamp Size is just the same as a fixed scale. Clamp size of 0 will import the object with no change to the scale. 100 will increase the scale by 100, etc. Export uses a global scale. That's the only difference.

Hi, Lux! I just purchased your Trefoil Star model at shapeways. I'll send you pics after it gets here if you want them.

Those last photos are really pretty, and caught my eye. It's beautiful actually. I just bought this model, lux. First time buying anything on Shapeways by the way. I'll post photos of it when it arrives if you like.

I don't think there's many Max users here on Renderosity, Luxxeon. I hope you do a Blender version, like always. The part where you convert the middle part to hexagons can't be done like that in Blender, so there would need to be a different way I guess. That part alone would be worth the watch for me, because I've always wondered how to make a mesh from hexagon shapes. There's tutorials out there that show how to do it on a flat surface but it doesn't work good if you try to bend it into a curved shape.

Great job, false1! Looks better than I could do for sure. I can't texture anything worth a dang.

I honestly had no idea the dissolve edges command had that feature in it. Then again, I also wouldn't have known why anyone would want to keep the vertices after edges were deleted either. This was very interesting!

If you have any questions about the tutorial, or if there are parts you didn't understand, please feel free to let me know here. I plan to release a Blender translation tutorial for this technique as well in the very near future.
Super! I'd love to know what you do in order to come up with these incredible techniques! Do you just start deleting and adding edges to a object, and see what comes out? These are objects that I expect to see people creating with custom programs, using long complicated math equations.

Amazing models and textures, Luxxeon! Very impressive. As far as the obj thing is concerned, I'm sure most people wouldn't mind adding the maps themselves if they had this great model to play with, but yes, there are a lot of folks who wouldn't bother I'm sure. I'd LOVE to see you release this as a native .blend file, with Cycles for the textures and materials! Now that would be exciting.
Thread: Why did you begin with modelling? | Forum: 3D Modeling
Hello! As Luxxeon has already said, welcome! It's nice to see a new face here. I got started modelling several years back, but have only made little progress over the years. I use Blender as my tool of choice for modelling. It was a rocky relationship in the beginning, but has been a love affair for the ages lately! I'm mostly interested in hard surface modelling and texturing, but have come to appreciate organic modelling and sculpting as well. Again, I use Blender for the little bit of sculpting I do too.
I've never used 3dsmax, but I have seen tutorials where it was used, and have seen the work of those who use it, like our coordinator Luxxeon here, and I must say it's definitely on my bucket list to try it! If I hit the lottery, or come into a few thousand dollars to burn one day, I would love to buy it too! I think it looks like a wildly powerful modelling tool, and the renderings are incredible. Your models look amazing, so I'd sure be happy to see any tutorials you wanted to share, and hope you decide to stick around and participate in the forums here! I usually post to this forum, or over in the Blender one.
Thread: Model A Voronoi Style Bracelet In Blender 2.74 | Forum: Blender
This is a very good conversation to have, about scale in Blender. Blender's use of realistic scale has always made me confused. I know this is one area where even Blender guru, Andrew Price, has called the software broken. A lot of Blender users hate him for saying that, and I personally think he went too far by saying that, but in some respects, I understand what he meant. There have been a few times when I was modeling something to "scale", using Imperial or Metric. It's all fine and really good up until you need to do a modelling task to scale. For sake of example, depending on your scene scale, the parameters in Blender will display the units of measure as feet or inches, but not so in many of the modelling action parameters. What if we wanted to inset a face to exactly 1 inch. I suppose there's a way to measure that, but the parameters of the inset only show default numbers, and aren't counting by the set units of measure anymore. The same is true for other features in edit mode. I assume this is what you meant by "inconsistencies in the parameters", Luxxeon? Is there any way to fix this, or a way to accurately measure those parameters? Or do we just have to eyeball it when it comes to certain things? This has had me stumped for a while now, and frankly I'm a little surprised it hasn't been addressed in the software all this time. Especially now that Blender is being used a lot in 3d printing, and even very sensitive modelling like architecture.

I'd like to take a moment just to revisit this thread once again. Since the website redesign had disabled or removed some of the embedded video links in threads like this one, I thought I'd provide a direct link to this video tutorial again. You can find the video here:
Model A Voronoi Style Bracelet In Blender 2.74
Moreover, the real reason I wanted to revisit this thread is to invite some of you to check out this inspirational video presentation by talented designer, Bernd Haier, who used this tutorial to create the base model for his exquisite jewelry showcase renderings, using the Nvidia Iray engine in 3dsmax. I know this isn't a Blender-specific creation, but I'm very honored that he shared his renders, and since it is a tutorial which I've translated to Blender, I thought it could serve perhaps as inspiration to Blender enthusiasts who might follow the tutorial.
Jewelry Design Part 1, By Bernd Haier
Enjoy!
Wow. Bernd's renders of the model are incredible. I thought they were photos he did of a 3d print or something at first. Yes, it's very inspirational, Lux. Makes me wanna try some renders like that in Cycles, and see how real I can get them.
Is the Iray engine in 3dsmax the same one that is now in Daz Studio? I know they are both Nvidia Iray, but are they actually the same tech?

I gave this one a shot the other night, and it turned out good! I have a Cycles render cooking now. I'll post it to my gallery when it's done.
