Ok, I'm almost there. How does one determine the size of a tex map used in a scene? e.g. some of the threads I've seen refer to texture maps being made as large as 3000 by 3000 and changing those in PS to a lower value. Is this what you are refering to?

Thanks OddDitty, could you please carify your point; what do you mean by the "effective range of the texture res. number..." ? Is there a rule of thumb for determinig the MTR? It just so happens I am dealing with facial closeups on a scene I am doing. LL

Thanks Ronstuff, My head is swimming a little so lets see if I get this: in practical terms, if one reduces the size (dimensions>size) of a tex. map then it doesn't matter because it will be proportionally applied to the figure? My understanding is, it is kind of like using a towel for a blanket? You would have to use several of them and they wouldn't necessarily line up? By reducing the tex. map size wouldn't that result in less quality? You would be changing the pixel information on a tex. map. Or, does it even matter, if not, then why are tex. maps made so large? My reasoning is you can get more info in a larger file, therefore more quality? I have applied small tex maps to large objects with bad results. Tiling sometimes solves this depending on what kind of effect you are going for; but, mostly it is unatural.

Hello Mason, I have been having similar render problems with FF and have been reading through these threads. Would you please clarify something? You talk of reducing the size of texture maps. By doing so, will they fit an object properly? For example: a body texture map that is 2k by 2k reduced in size by half, 1k by 1k, will everything line up properly on the corresponding figure? And, does quality suffer? Thanks, Larry-L

trav--et al: I assure you I DO see it as an honor. Based on past threads I have seen about the subject here I thought it was customary to ask ones permission to save anothers work; a policy I have followed and without exception, received permission. Katetheshrew--I have asked to save work for the very reason you state. As far as the dead logo: being a fan, I know of their blanket permission to use such things accordingly. In order to make up for my error I have scheduled a time later in the day (once I finish my "honey-do" list, after all, it is Saturday) to commit ritual Sepuku. I even have a friend coming over to act as my second and lob off my head at the last minute.

Thank you dolfijntjes, I was laboring under an assumption that it was common practice to ask for permission and I see that would be impracticle to manage everytime one wanted to save ones artwork. I am sorry now that I even brought it up. I can only say that I was tired last night, had a bad day, to much vino, fight with the wife & kids, got a speeding ticket, stubbed my toe, blah...blah...blah.

Well, Looking at my thread this morning, I have obviously stirred up quite a hornets nest. My original comment was is line with copyright law as I read it, and from past discussion threads here I assumed I was in the majority of opinion. I see now I am not. Well, for the sake of peace I will defer to the majority and apologize to you all for taking an unpopular opinion. I'm the odd man out. I am sorry and I will no longer bring this up.

The fact that I have posted a religious theme means nothing to the principle at hand. I simply am trying to encourage respect for one another. I understand that one must download to view; perhaps my terminolgy is incorrect. I mean, to save to one's desktop. Is it to much to ask for respect?

That is a rather callous and disrespectfull attitude to the artists here. Again, at least have the courtesy to ask permission.

I finally finshed and posted in the Poser gallery. Thanks to all of you for all your help. I learned a lot about lighting in this one.

It could be ambient light bouncing off the stair. Try turning off that as well as specularity.

Thanks all. EnglishBob I'm assuming, by post work, you mean completeing the shadow directly under the far window? If so I was thinking about that. I made the Soji windows with 100% translucence so light would filter through, which it has, but I haven't figured out if that is a correct shadow for that effect.

Thanks for the tips, I am trying some of that, but as I said, I am finding success with turning off shadows on objects or adjusting ambience on them to acheive what I am looking for. I will try all your suggestions though to see what effect I get. It sure is tedious work and yes, I will post it, hopefully by the weekend.
