casamerica, Please post your quetions or let me know where they are posted. I would be glad to answer them and I apologize if I missed them but I've had a lot of them to get to. You can register 3 times and then you will have to contact us. An email would do it. Or phone or fax or even snail mail. We're not trying to prevent you from using the product. In the case of 4 system upgrades in 9 months or the fifth, that is more than reasonable. Again we haden't had a chance to get some of these details ironed out before this all started because it was "leaked" to the press before we were ready. It may be a matter of simply requesting a few extra just in case by emailing us. Or, if you're like most people you know at least a day or two beforehand if you're going to upgrade.

Egi.sys is actually smaller than us. Keep in mind that this is not released and we are in the process of setting it up. It was very unfortunately leaked to the German press. Next time someone from a software company says they can't talk about future plans, THIS situation is exactly why. We can't get access to the LW and 3Ds dongles. One because the Max dongle no longer exists and my guess is that LW may soon follow, although I don't know for sure and they've made no statement to that effect, and two, that would require us licensing use which again is aproaching $30 a shot. Even if we don't actually purchase the HW itself. Pro Pack CD contains relatively little info, unlike Poser and Bryce. A CD image would be quite easy to distribute and is being distributed. We considered burning a required 200MB file onto the disk but then that would require the CD. Bryce users complained a lot about the fact that that had to put the CD in every time they launched. Iwas managing the QA dept. when Bryce 4 was in development. And that was easy to crack. Egi.sys is currently looking into German law. as far as the rest of Europe, I don't know and can't comment on that. **************************** Steve Yatson Product Manager Curious Labs Http://www.curiouslabs.com ****************************

Well put. All it would take is an email, fax or phone call. And if you were on a project, there's a grace period of 14 days in which time the app will be fully functional. Again it's not you that we are trying to prevent from using the product. We do have the registration info from Meta although I can't search it to let you know if we have yours at the moment. But if you send a mail to me I'd be glad to.

Zardoz, regarding post 9. Please point me in the direction of this easier protection. I'm willing to look at anything. Also we are NOT a big company. We have 25 employees right now. It's too bad that it would be more difficult for you to live without piracy than Poser. That's a sad statement. I hope I misunderstood. 18. There is an authorization required in addition to the dongle. Each auth code is tied to a specific dongle as a matter of fact, and it does require contact with Newtek. If you move your dongle to another machine you will have 14 days to re-register that dongle on that machine with Newtek to be legal, but I believe you can use the same auth code. We never tried to use the same auth code so I'm not sure. We had to do this several times during testing. Ours will be much easier. **************************** Steve Yatson Product Manager Curious Labs Http://www.curiouslabs.com ****************************

I think the moderators have done an excellent job in this situation. What you guys think is rellevent and I think it would be wrong for moderator to prevent someone from posting their opinion. We're not going to pull copy protection but it's good to hear that people are so passionate about this. From both sides. I have had a lot of people email me directly that are just lurkers and/or afraid to post support. I think davidrows' questions would be good. If they just require a yes or no answer then people may be more apt to respond. Start a new thread and a poll? I'd rather one of you guys do this because it is your forum. Thanks again for the feedback. **************************** Steve Yatson Product Manager Curious Labs Http://www.curiouslabs.com ****************************

Servo, It used to bother me when people were pounding us. But I came to the realization at some point that they did it because they care about what we do. I've read your posts and I believe you've sent me at least one mail outlining your issues(I get a lot of mail). You've had legitimate concerns that will help to make a better product. I think the Pro Pack does work. Obviously it's not perfect or we wouldn't need an updater, but it works. **************************** Steve Yatson Product Manager Curious Labs Http://www.curiouslabs.com ****************************

Pretty much all of us do to some extent. Karen is another former Meta person that's been around for a while. **************************** Steve Yatson Product Manager Curious Labs Http://www.curiouslabs.com ****************************

Lyrra, Joe, I do lurk a lot but try to stay out of most threads. Most of the time the questions get answered before I even have a chance. Especially the tech questions. I get a lot of private emails that keep me busy. It's really nice to see the community that has grown up around Poser. The fact that people get mad or really upset and flame us, used to bother me, but what it comes down to is that those people are really passionate about Poser and love the product. They care! What more could we ask for? I'm getting all teary eyed now. **************************** Steve Yatson Product Manager Curious Labs Http://www.curiouslabs.com ****************************

I make no assumptions either way. We keep it in the forefront when doing anything that we do. Yes you will be required to register future versions. And you will not be able to copy it to any computer to use it. If you need to move it or install new or additional copies you'll need to contact us in some manner. Again, let's keep this in perspective, it will most likely take less time than has been spent on this thread. You make a good point. You are not beholden to us any more than any other consumer in any other arena. I truly believe that if, and after, you actually experience this, you'll continue to use Poser and will realize how seemless this is. Dare I say assuming you're a paying customer. :) Sorry, I had to. Cybersmack me! **************************** Steve Yatson Product Manager Curious Labs Http://www.curiouslabs.com ****************************Thread: About the poser protection | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks, I checked it out. There's a lot of Max stuff up there. And a lot of the stuff from this forums store. Is there actually a crack for Max 4? I found one download and it turned out to be 3.1. If there is it's not showing up on usenet or warez that I can find, but then it's not my thing. I hope we can turn your skepticism around. I'm not sure what you mean by needing to remove the copy protection to protect your investment. It's kind of the opposite. The copy protection is there to protect your investment. In the end paying customers determine the survival and continued improvement of the product you purchased(your investment). The more people that get the same thing you paid for for free, the less return you'll get on that investment. I keep saying this but it needs to be said, if you buy the product we'll give you the best support we possibly can. If you don't then we'll make it as difficult as we possibly can for you to use it. **************************** Steve Yatson Product Manager Curious Labs Http://www.curiouslabs.com ****************************

Non HW: Max 4 uses it. I have yet to find a crack but that's not to say that it hasn't or won't be done. It's been out since around January. Pixels 3D seems to be successful with a similar scheme. I've seen cracks for older versions but keep in mind that as this technology advances, it will become more and more difficult. Both make it much more difficult to obtain additional uses for serial numbers. And again by successful I mean curbing warez. We won't make you jump through hoops. **************************** Steve Yatson Product Manager Curious Labs Http://www.curiouslabs.com ****************************
