Lighting definitely a factor... that first FreeStuff pic probably using warm lighting. Get those free light sets mentioned above. Also, Zrincx might have a free light set here; if so, d/l it. Also, are you using bump maps? If not, do so to get more of a real texture. Furthermore, you might try changing the highlight color for your figure's skin. It's probably black, and changing it to a dark brown or dark red might up the realism. I don't know whether it's still there, but you might try RuntimeDNA.com's freebies for something called Tonals... MAT files that will change the settings like I described...though it's fairly easy to do manually.

PabloS right about posting an example, and about the focal length... absolutely right for portraits, but you can use a smaller length if you're further away from the subject. Absent an example picture, I would speculate that if you have good textures, lighting may be the missing ingredient to your mix. Assuming you're using P4, search the FreeStuff here for SnowSultan's Illustrender and Pinup sets, also the global set from PheonixRising (yes, spelled like that), and Shademaster's Renderupgrade set (a realistic outdoor light set).
Thread: Disposing of P4... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Pretty sure wdupre's right, but when you're totally comfortable with P5, you might try e-mailing CL about it. Given some of CL's past actions, as well as the PR hit they took with the buggy initial release of P5, they might be amenable to a transfer within a family. The worst case is that they say no...
Thread: DAZ's Tailor do you have it and does it work well? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'm pretty sure DAZ/Codetwister is aware of the situation with P5, but I wouldn't bet on anything happening. First of all, there's the DAZ/CL tension. Second, the workaround described above is also known. Third, I seem to recall word in the forum being that Codetwister wasn't planning an update because he thought dynamic clothing (or dyn cloth based solutions) would render the Tailor obsolete...which may be true in the long run, but probably not for a while.

Thread: Rant [mild] about V3 facePaks | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Another aspect of this issue is that I have observed, both in the MP and the Galleries, is that many and perhaps most people tend to have a "preferred" sort of face. Not too many people produce many characters with radically different types of faces. So I have tended to view face paks as a sort of virtual casting agency.

A semi-side note or tip. Doing a full morph injection can cause apparent lock up on my current system (2.8GHz PC, 1M RAM) under P4 and WinXP. However, this is only apparent. It seems that the injections are actually consuming major resources for a short period of time after the cursor changes back to an arrow from the hourglass. If you try to click on anything during that period, you are restarting an injection. However, if you Crtl+Alt+Del after a full injection, you can observe the CPU usage and return to P4 when the usage has dropped to a reasonable level without experiencing a lockup.

The attached thread has a link to a zip you may find helpful. Also, search the form using "jps"... you'll turn up a fair amount of discussion of this topic.Thread: Can someone answer this on the upcoming DAZ studio... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Purely speculation on my part, but I would suggest that Lightwave would be on the list, as DAZ already does some work in this area. I also hope for Vue, but it's possible that this may depend on how things work out between CL and e-on vis a vis P5 compatability.

Maybe so, but the fact that someone finally did regular clothes for the Mil PT is news, also;-)

The real world maybe a "man's world" in many respects, but IMO that it is not true when it comes to hairstyles and fashion generally. In fact, I recently got e-mailed jokes about differences between the sexes and one was that a man's hairstyle stays in fashion for decades.
