Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 01 9:18 am)
Actually, I think you could say the same thing about body morphs, poses, and textures (and there are postings at length on the subject). The fact is, some people have more talent at these things than others. If you are at the beginning with Poser, and many of us are, these packages can help us learn. I don't think it is always laziness (though it may be). Sometimes it is a time thing. Sometimes it is a lack of confidence. Sometimes it is a lack of awareness. Sometimes it is less ability. Having said all that, I will admit I've seen packages that say they offer many different looks and I can't tell much of a difference between the models. I don't think I personally would invest in something that doesn't give me versatility beyond what I could do myself, and models that are strikingly different from each other so I have an illusion of diversity. My opinion, which is worth nothing today.
Some peple doesn't really have the knack for posing facemorphs and dial setting but still want to use what they see other people doing. I hadn't seen and face pose packs here yet but I might have missed them. People are just trying to make a living I think or some extra money on the side. Besides if noone makes the first face packs then what will everyone else modify to build theirs off of? (a better rant) :) I feel bad for the people who work hard on stuff and get spammed by people tweaking and rereleasing their stuff under a different name. I see alot of it here and it's unfortunate. My new favorite spam are the people using other people's Vicki2 morphs tweaked and transfered onto the Mil Girls for characters. People are so creative. giggles But I am glad people are making V3 stuff though. And it gives people something new to use their vendor credits on.

I agree that (for me, at least) half the fun of using Poser is trying to get the figures to resemble someone (or something) other than their default appearance. I enjoy playing with the dials and seeing a new face take shape on screen. I wouldn't buy a face morph pack - but I may download the occasional freebie to take a look at.

Well, you can tell what's the easiest to do by what shows up first in the MP. Poses. Then Faces. The stuff that really takes work, like body textures, will be a bit longer before we see a lot of those. And I won't purchase Vicky 3 faces until the vendors do some more work and actually put the calls to inject the morphs needed into the files. Right now it seems you have to have a fully loaded v3 to apply them. No thanks.
fc2 files are preferable and more appropriate.. You can then spawn it as a morph and exort it as a morph to transfer to you main figure. You cannot sell morphs made from Daz's face morph packs. this is our work. You would trully have to do your own from scratch. ANd not just saying it is from scatch as some try to do. There are certain zig zag polygon patterns in most of the morphs like a watermark so I can tell. You can however sell pose files for the face. Anton

Right now it seems you have to have a fully loaded v3 to apply them I bought VisualSilence April and you can apply the Body- and Facemorph to V3 out of the box. No need to have her fully loaded. They use the same morphinjection like DAZ and it works very well.

I have made Yesterday my first V3 MOR pose with MatPoseEdit. It needs a half hour loading with the full V3 morphs. But I think it was worth the waiting. It is much more fun do it yourself. And you learn something ;) Mazak
I told you this was a mild rant since I've bought one of the face packs that did things I've never thought of and I'll probably buy another one too. But I still like the faces I came up with on my own the best, so part of me hopes others will at least give it a try so they can feel that exhilaration of wow I made her sooo pretty, too. Emily
Not everyone using Poser and related products is into it for being artistically creative. There is a big element of a sort of virtual doll collecting/playing. There's nothing wrong with that, and it's fine if people just want to buy stuff that's already done (especially fine for the merchants doing it ;-)).
yeah, but, if you use the face pack...your cutie could look like someone elses...or a bunch of other folks, and that leads to vicki's in temples, 'n all. which could lead me to a rant of my own. no, i will keep this mouth shut and go back and play with my little character. i made her all myself...even the texture and clothing, and, I THINK SHE'S PRETTY...and, it all kept my mind off my sinus infection. and, i do feel happy with her...until i give her one last render, tomorrow morning before work, and, zero in on her flaws....
It is really nice to be able to use something unlike anything you may have though of making yourself. Often I thought. "I would never have wanted to combine those...but it really worked well.. I want it now."

Poppi, there are millions of dolls out there that all look the same. There are thousands of 'specialist' dolls that look the same. Dolls that look the same are about what you'd expect from commercial dolls. Same goes for doll's houses. So if loads of people want to play with Vickies in temples, good luck to them and the people that make the bits. If you're tired of unoriginality, just think - there are nearly as many identical rants about V-in-Ts as there are V-in-Ts. The best route to seeing something original isn't to complain about the lack of it; it is to make something original.
" and, i do feel happy with her...until i give her one last render, tomorrow morning before work, and, zero in on her flaws...." And then work gets postponed until those are corrected, then a "quick rerender" and then there is just that one minor detail to fix- so work must be postponed one more time.. just one more quick render - and then next think you know- it's 9 pm ;P
I think it is also helpful to see how other people are usung morphs that you might be ignoring. A morph that may seem useless or less than appealing might be essential for getting a certain effect you are having trouble getting.

yeah, cheryle....why is nothing ever perfect? drives me nuts. actually, i take alot of my home stuff to work, to keep on working...lol...you know, trying to figure out why my dress is getting that little rip under the very back edge of the left pit...is it the model...? a mistake in the cr2...or, perhaps, i messed up grouping it....yes, i can keep busy at work, too, doncha know. anton...one of the things i like BEST about v3 is....when we go the the injection pictures....we can actually SEE what those dials really can do. that makes it so much easier to figure out which morphs will make the face/body that we are after....oh, i do love this v3. even though, i'm still just playing with v2/v3 because i want my clothes to fit.
lol. I like the hourglass icons myself. :)

i love that new character for mike from wusamah. our old mike is just a little too stocky, for my tastes. wusamah did a real nice job on his mike character. should sell alot of clothing. cheryle...have you played with stephanie and mike textures? i had some fun results with that. but, i don't have enough time in my life to do everything that seems cool, and strikes my fancy. still, i can see stephy being a really hot guy.

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.
Another aspect of this issue is that I have observed, both in the MP and the Galleries, is that many and perhaps most people tend to have a "preferred" sort of face. Not too many people produce many characters with radically different types of faces. So I have tended to view face paks as a sort of virtual casting agency.
While I don't know why everybody buys what they buy so maybe I'm only speaking for myself (and I still haven't gotten around to actually using V3 yet, but I will as soon as I have time!), but it is possible that some people aren't attempting to create a custom face, but are actually using it as a tool to accomplish something further. For instance, as cool as it would have been to have created Victoria myself, I recognize that even if I had a clue as to how to start (which I don't) it would probably take years and years to do something like that from scratch. During this entire period of time I wouldn't be able to actually do anything with the model, because I'd be too busy creating it. So, I simply purchased Victoria (2, and now 3). I can still customize the model, but it is far less effort and I get to concentrate on what I would rather be doing, which is creating the final scene, of which Victoria is merely a part. I feel vaguely guilty that the work isn't all mine since DAZ really did the hard part, but I feel quite happy that I get to actually compose the entire scene, and that happiness more than makes up for the vague guilt part. While I don't see myself getting a single pre-made face becuase V3 should allow me mix and match and create a "custom" face, if that option didn't exist and I only had pre-made faces, I would use them, the same way I'm using a pre-made character or pre-made clothing; as a tool to help me more easily create the final result. Hmm... I'm not sure what the total number of reasonable "custom" faces will be, but I expect that since many of us will use the base sets and mix and match, probably mine will periodically look similar to somebody elses'.

How lazy are some people? [ok, maybe not as mild as I thought] But the fun with V3 is playing with those faces that are SOOOOOOOOOOO easy to make, I do believe I could make them in my sleep. So why Buy them premade? Isn't that like buying premade fun? I forgot I live in america, for a moment in whcih buying pre-made fun is a way of life-- but Poser is a world wide phenomenon so Yankee scum aren't the reason. Besides I bought one package myself [hypocrite, of course I'm a hypocrite, isn't everybody?] But that was because it had a few choices I wouldn't have tried and I don't intend to use one [ok, maybe one] that isn't heavily changed. Beisdes being obviously schizophrenic in my writing style, isnt the major pleasure of V3 shortcutted by these quickie face packs???? Please don't tell me about freedom, I'm old enough to remember freedom.:)) Emily
