Re speeding up Firefly..Have you applied the service pack (it does speed it up)
Also Nerd (god bless him!) posted a series of tweaks to speed up FireFly. They work too.
Having had Poser for all of two weeks (since the one-legged Irishman discovered Wiltshire) I would say on the whole.. Judy is an Alien....
It was when I was working on the face room and was flicking between the pose room and face room (I using smooth shaded on the pose room and (fade-up the twilight zone music) there she was..
Talk about "all your bases are belong to us"
if you don't know what I'm talking about see link above

Hi Williamsheil. Good points. Some of my frustration with Windows -and I have been running Windows ever since NT3.1 (now there was unstable!) has been the resources the OS actually take to run. Today I have been playing with my latest toy(new PC) It has a Matrox Parhelia 128MB workstation card. The device driver has a .NET interface - it needs huge resources from my system that I need to use Poser. A comparison - ATI radeon driver 3,244K, Matrox Driver 22,148K. I agree that poser puts extra-ordinary stresses on any system. I do not know if Intel Hyperthreading technology or AMD's Hammer would actually improve things as far as bus width is concerned. I am somewhat surprised that CL does not take into account some of the technologies that the graphics cards are beginning to incorporate into their engine (hardware displacement mapping and such) We seem to be reaching a point within the process that Poser is using the CPU/RAM for rendering operations and leaving a specialised, made for the job rendering engine quiescent. dbutenhof Thanks for the update. Sad that is probably going to be carbon based. kawecki That was my understanding of the problem. PaulC

Gosh that cat reminds me of my old Maine Coon cat (died last year) He would sit just like that. I'm afraid that if I did that to She Who Must Be Obeyed when she came in she would a) laugh b) wonder what I'd been taking during the day. c) probably say "the bath is ready then, oh good..." Romance is alive and well in Marlborough (just)

Hey Jimmi I think there are elements tied into the registry. When I registered ,the passcode thingy(technical term) wrote to the operating system drive - not my poser drive. I think CL would look at upgrading to a new machine as a valid reason to re -registering. Look at the numerous threads on installing. It does seem that if you have a good stable OS fully patched up with a stable install of Poser 5 and upgrade to SR1 it works. It looks as though if the install is unstable or misbehaving the patch seems to make matters worse. PaulC
