Thread: Magical Wizard's Coat MorphKit and other Goodies | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
tee hee...Renderosity users must be the most TOS reading, license examining, "what the hell are you trying to pull?" folks I've ever met. Scamming this bunch is like trying to pull a crocodile's tooth without him noticing :)
Those stock terms that come with various scripts and software have some pretty amazing things buried in them so I encourage everyone to read through them carefully when you put something on your site. This one sounds remakably like what Yahoo pulled when they took over Geocities, except they meant it. That's why I won't put anything of mine on any Yahoo owned site...they are way greedy and can bite me!
Thanks for fixing that up LSM, and for the cool adaption of PWFW's coat. Good luck with 3D Arena, glad you are giving it another go! I like the bright look you've given the site too.

Thread: Ukon's Long, Curly hair in store is neither long nor curly... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
No, not curly, but it is a long style and does look nice in the ads. I think it might just be a language thing. Turtle, I find myself going back to Koz' hair very frequently, perhaps the best freebies I've ever been lucky enough to download. Just wish he'd do more!
Thread: Sandstorm | Forum: Vue
For my Crossing the Wastelands pic I used several streched spheres (have to check, but I think only 3) with sandy looking cloud materials, plus a cylinder similarly mapped. The spheres provided the overall "storm" effect, then I made a very short (and very small!) animation of the cylinder passing across the frame through the main character. This allowed me to find a frame that added a good "impact" appearance.
I rendered using depth of field to blur the background into the storm which gave a better feeling that the sand was moving. I used no volumetric materials at all (which do look nice but good grief are they slow!) and while I don't recall the actual render time, I believe it was a little over an hour for a 1280x960 render using broadcast quality. Reducing that pic to 1024x768 further softened and slightly blurred the look, improving the effect IMHO.

For a first tablet and for a hobby user I think the Graphire is the best buy. Frys/Outpost.com has a few refurbished Graphires left for $69.99 (red only left). I got a refurbished one and it works just great. Wacom refurbished them so they come with a warranty and save you $30 from new. I'd rather have that than get an "unknown" from ebay.Thread: Sarah Michelle Gellar? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Sorry to appropriate your thread a bit...WTB, did you do Drusilla too? I seem to recall seeing her but maybe I'm just wishing :)

"And free from copyrights does not mean public domain. If someone tries to claim to work as thiers and sell it as such they can still be sued." I'm sorry, but yes it does. I suggest you look up public domain and you will find that it literally means "free of copyright". When something is free of copyright it means anyone can do anything they want with it, including sell it for profit, and there isn't anything you can do about it. You may want to post some queries in the copyright forum. Explain exactly what you want the restrictions and distribution to be and perhaps Jeny or Harbinger will point you toward an appropriate type of licensing for it. Someone quite a while back (can't remember who) asked some questions about an open source type license to use with store products. Search that forum for open source and you may find some relevant info.
Thread: 25 anti-aliasing test results (201K image) | Forum: Vue
Ok, I've been trying some of this using the Doberman. Again, I'm just kinda guessing about the quality thing because its only a slider, but it is clear that best quality is needed if the soft shadow is important. However, the dog looks quite good to me at lower settings and I can't imagine too many times I'm going to be casting a soft shadow on a plain flat surface. Really, I hardly even turn on soft shadows. The noise from background stuff and surface textures easily masks pixelation flaws in them, so I think its more a matter of matching the right kind of render to the right kind of scene and this 'acid test' for shadows is one factor to consider.
I do now realize that Ultra doesn't even enable soft shadows so no wonder they look so bad with that setting.
Now I'm really not sure what the lighting set up others are using is. I just used the plain "blank" sky and the sun, moving the sun so it would cast a shadow off the dog similar to sitting blues (I only used one dog though) and made the ground flat white. I made the sun 30% soft and with all the render settings maxed out it took just over 8 minutes. Granted, we didn't use the same animal and stuff but 8 minutes versus almost 2 hours for Nightvoice? Something seems wacky there. I have a 1.7gz p4, but I can't imagine the difference between a 1gz and a 1.7gz it THAT huge (btw I don't use openGL either for the same reasons, plus imported Poser figures often looked weird with gl on for me anyway and it made it hard to position them).
Maybe if someone could make a "test scene" with the stuff that comes with Vue we can do some real benchmarking tests to get an idea of how different systems perform. At least then the results would have some meaning and people could get an idea of what Vue likes. We did that with a Poser scene a while back and the results were quite informative.
Regardless, this has prompted me to spend some time with the render settings and I feel like I understand them better now. So if nothing else, that's one good thing! :)

If you think Vue renders slow, you must not have tried Bryce 5 ;) Stupid question...the quality one is just a slider. Is there some way to "know" what percentage I'm setting more precisely? Also, does anyone know what the different presets are actually using? In particular, I'd like to know what Broadcast quality uses because I've been very pleased with it as a good compromise between quality and speed.

"The mesh itself will not be considered public domain as it will be owned by the entire group that works on it, but it will be free from copyrights" Dude, you need to figure out your legalese. ;) Public domain means "free from copyrights", so you've totally contradicted yourself leaving it questionable whether you're retaining any rights at all. Perhaps you should consider an "open source" model for the licensing. I am concerned that you feel male and female figures can be reasonably created from the same mesh unless you plan on leaving out part of the man's anatomy and don't think attractive breasts are important. I think you should consider anatomically correct base male and base female meshs that include these features natively and have been pre-proportioned appropriately for their gender (shoulder to waist to hip). I don't think morphing alone is ever going to be able to produce acceptable results for these differences.

This appears to be a bug with NT based systems like Win2k and XP. Rven then, I never got it once when I had Fat32 but when I installed a new drive formatted as NTFS it suddenly became an issue. If poser is on a separate drive or partition, be sure Windows has a paging file on that drive. That's the tip I found, and resetting my paging file worked for me (poser is on D and I only had paging on c) If its on the same drive, you may need to increase the size of the paging file. Others have gotten things going by defragging their drive. Its a weird bug.

Sorry mov, but I don't think I could ever see Kim Basinger in default Dina! ;) Diane, I can't even find a list of what morphs Dina/Vina (I think all the morphs are the same, its just a rejointed/shape base, yes?) comes with. Like Questor, morphs and the ability to change the figure's shape frequently from image to image is what makes them useful to me. If this information posted somewhere? I looked at Animotions store, but couldn't find it.
