if, on installation, you elect to use existing preferences all your runtimes and your setup remain intact, if you did not, then the default for the installer is to backup the preferences.
close poser, open the backup folder copy the contents into your prefs folder and restart poser. All should be back to normal.
actually I've never seen this menu or option when I installed the updates. Does it show up on Mac installs? Where is this backup folder you mentioned?

Must be something wron with me because I can not get it to stay as floating. As you say, as soon as it gets close to docking area on edges of frames it locks into place and i have to go back and reassign the floating preference. Maybe t is a problem on Macs with Poser (2014 did the same darn thing if I remember correctly. But then again my mind is terribly wasted so it could just be me. :(

Thread: question for Renderosity store staff | Forum: Poser 11 / Poser Pro 11 OFFICIAL Technical
never had any luck with the d/s dson thing. never got it to work on my macs even with the techs at daz talking me through it over the phone. got a few products I really wanted or needed for an idea that i never could get to use in poser and have been sitting on them waiting and hoping for some damn miracle someday allowing me to use them in poser. still waiting...........................
just frustrating seeing so much great new stuff available by content creators many of which cut their teeth for poser now creating products better than before, exclusively for d/s!

Yeah that's it. I turn it off and then drag anywhere except for wen i drag it too close to the edge of the frame and then docking reactivates and the function snaps back to a docked position.
Thread: Activation | Forum: Poser 11 / Poser Pro 11 OFFICIAL Technical
drag docking? There was a function to tun docking off in the drop down menu in poser. But s soon as you drag the window too close to the side fo the screen it locks in place again. Kind of a stupid function in my opinion. You should either be able to dock or drag and place. Is there somewhere else to permanently turn it off in?

Oh great. SM and Content Paradise never really had a very good stable of great model creators. There were some but for the most part it was greatly lacking in quality. I wish a few of them came here to sell some of the content they had there that just disappeared when they closed the store. Bought many items there at risk of getting burned and....well...got burned a lot before i finally quit spending my money there. Had many items in Wishlist waiting for a time of need but got burned there too when that too got closed out. I guess their QC was not as good as it normally was at DAZ or here. Hope that does change. Looking forward to seeing where it goes.
Thread: Does the Poser 11.2 update blow away your Runtimes? | Forum: Poser 11 / Poser Pro 11 OFFICIAL Technical
I think if you do as I started doing installing new stuff in the Runtime folder that installs with the app you might run into problems. I got noodle spanked real quick by a more seasoned Poser vet to never do that but to create other Runtime folders to install non native Poser content into. Since newer version of poser can work with multiple runtime folder it was a wisdom I have always followed.
PARDON the OFF-TOPIC HERE: My old MacBook Pro has been auto rebooting in the middle of working projects resulting in the obvious image losses. I found out it is a defective GPU and no longer fixable since ALL the GPUs made for my unit were made at the same time and being considered "Vintage" now parts of different production runs not available. No point getting it "fixed" if the part is replaced by a same part number GPU or used/Refurbished GPU. I need to find another computer and I heard from a Mac tech at the SuperStore that since I work with Higher end apps like PhotoShop and Poser etc., it would be best to get an iMac instead. Do any of you Mac users here concur or disapprove? Please contact me by site mail so we don't clog up this thread.
Thread: question re: zip files | Forum: Poser 11 / Poser Pro 11 OFFICIAL Technical
mjgabriele posted at 2:00PM Tue, 01 October 2019 - #4364649
Thank you for the feedback. However, I think I may not have been clear in my original post. I am running Poser on a Mac, so I'm not sure if the Windows solutions apply...? In addition, I cannot, for the life of me, open these folders (like one is called PoserPremiumContent_3DScenery_01.zip. If I double-click on that, it opens toPoserPremiumContent_3DScenery_01.zip.cpgz. If I then double-click on that, it opens PoserPremiumContent_3DScenery_01 2.zip, and it would just go 'round in circles, opening and re-creating the same 2 files. I never get to see what's actually living inside the folder! I'm truly baffled...
Used to have that problem until I invested in real archiving tools like StuffIt and Expander for the Mac. Seems the onboard version included in OS has problems with some .zip files. Another try is to put the zip files in a separate folder on the Desktop and unzip them there so the unzipped folders open in a contained folder. See if that works. I got into the habit of doing that so I could find the un-archived content folder and thus install manually as recommended above. I use a way different method of setting up my Runtime folders the un-archiver does not understand. So I gave up on i a long time go. 2 window manual install is the best for me anyway.
Thread: Activation | Forum: Poser 11 / Poser Pro 11 OFFICIAL Technical
On a Mac any updating to Poser completely changed my preferences and it has been a real pain in the heinie resetting my desktop again to where I need it to be for the way I work. I wish there was a way to turn off stickie pallets permanently so I can just put my tools where I want. It seems to allow it until you get the dragging pallet/tool too close to a window edge and it quickly converts to a sticky one again. I found Poser 11 to b the most egregious version for that sticky palette thing. Someone please include an option to tun it off permanently as we need it.
So on a Mac running the installer program changes the app itself but all the Runtime files need to be reinstalled by hand?
Thread: Poser 11.2: Should I bother to reinstall the Legacy Files? | Forum: Poser 11 / Poser Pro 11 OFFICIAL Technical
How far back do the legacy files go? To what older version of Poser I mean. I had a BIG investment in P5 (Judy) and animals and P4 (animals) as well as all the animals and creatures in newer versions up to Poser Pro 2014 figures as well as older DAZ Mil4 figures I still use ALL the time (when background needs to be filled with lower res characters especially).
Thread: HELP - My serial number is being rejected from posersoftware.com | Forum: Poser 11 / Poser Pro 11 OFFICIAL Technical
Weird when I first installed mine when it was first released it needed a single space after the serial number. I went nuts for hours serial number in hand typing it in again and again until finally contacted the company and they told me to just add a single space and voila! Go figure.
Thread: Poser Pro 11 / 11.1 users forced to pay $99 for 11.2 update or can't use??? | Forum: Poser 11 / Poser Pro 11 OFFICIAL Technical
Yeah I can relate to the problems that seem to come with updating....having the same problems. i downloaded ALL the stuff which took forever the feed was so darn slow it timed out for every download path. When it all finally got down I have no clue as to how to update my older Poser 11.1 with it all. Am I supposed to place all the content in the Runtime folder by hand? There was supposed to be some instller but I can't find it on my system and I downloaded it 5 times and it just seems to disappear.

Well...
The first email said nothing about the update being free to Poser 11 users and I thought the $99 mentioned later was for everyone. What was most disturbing to me is that I can't continue using my PP11.1 without doing this update. I've had updates cause major problems before.
