I'm not buying it because it's hard enough to run Poser 4 on Windows 98. It keeps giving me "out of memory" errors. And, no, I refuse to enter the 21st century and upgrade to a more stable operating system (Win 2000 or XP). If my Word 95 works fine on Windows 98, then I don't need to upgrade my OS! --John

Thread: A few words about the Poser 5 registration/installation procedure | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Just some thoughts: Lock on cars are to keep the "average" person from just opening the door and taking your stuff. If a professional burglar/ theif wants to take your car, it's gone- he can disarm and alarm system and wire the car before anyone sees a thing. (That's why he's called a "professional") The same goes for software- the registration keys keep "average" people from copying it and using it multiple times. The professional pirates/ hackers have all kinds of tools available, such as code-generator programs that create fake registration keys and the ability to disable the "challenge" code OR even disable the "requires CD" protection". So, if you're really concerned about "security", do what a number of other graphic artists are doing: Purchase the software (in this case, Poser 5) for the full retail price. You how have a fully legal, licensed copy. Next, go to a p2p site and download a cracked version of the software. Install and use the cracked version on your PC. Now, you don't have to worry about the "challenge" code failing or CL going out of business or your "dongle" breaking or anything else. And since you purchased the product (it's sitting there on your shelf, still in the box), you are completely legal. --John

Thread: Dr. Who's Scarf now ready to wear... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Gerald- Your picture is all wrong! K-9 would never say, "Beep!". He should be saying something like, "Master, please don't on me. I was not constructed to support the weight of a person." And since the Doctor is sitting on K-9's top control panel, shouldn't K-9 be spinning around or firing his blaster or something? --John

VERY COOL!! K-9 leaves a "trail" on my version of IE, but who cares? This is very good work for such a small space! Please keep making more Doctor Who stuff.

Thanks for the updated history. I was trying to do it from memory! :-) Anyway, I forgot to mention- if anyone would like plans for the exterior of the TARDIS, I posted a couple of pictures in the Lightwave Forum. (The picuture are scans from the Doctor Who Technical Manual.) --John

Gerald- Another excellent model! But, I have one small suggestion: what about including a little history? I'll start you out: K-9 was a companion for the 4th Doctor (Tom Baker), lasting from the late 1970's to the early 1980's. His first appearance was in the episode The Invisible Enemy. His last appearance was in Warrior's Gate, when he and Romana II stayed behind in E-Space. (This is also the third-to-last episode of the 4th Doctor). K-9's next appearance would be in the "one-off" special, K-9 and Company, where he helped Sarah Jane Smith solve a mystery. After that, both K-9 and Sarah Jane would both appear in the 20th anniversary episode, The Five Doctors (now available on DVD). There were actually 3 K-9 units to travel with the Doctor- the first two were either damaged or destroyed at some point, and the third stayed behind with Romana. K-9 Mark 4 was specially made for Sarah Jane. --John

Thread: MAT Pose Creator update now available at the Marketplace | Forum: MarketPlace Showcase
Sorry about the confusion. Yes, all upgrades are FREE- if you purchased version 1.0 back in November or version 2.6 last week, it's still FREE. Version 2.7 can be re-downloaded by clicking the link in the Marketplace. Version 3.0 is available at my website. I sent an e-mail to all the previous buyers to let them know where to download the latest versions. I know, I know- I should have sent the e-mail when I posted this message. :) --John

Thread: Mac users screwed again... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
How does a thread about CL's developement of Poser 5 for the Mac become a thread about Ron Knight's body?? Anyway, everyone's missing the point: if you get a Mac, you can be COOL. The titanium coloring, the flat screen on a pedestal, the round mouse, the translucent coloring- it's just COOL! I'm not sure if you get to be COOL when you place the order for the Mac, when you open the box, or when you turn it on. However, I believe it comes with software that teaches you such key COOL phrases (for use in any debate) such as: "Buy a Mac" or "Your first mistake was buying a PC." or "I don't care if the Mac can't run [insert software title], it has a flat screen." --John

I also have a tutorial at my site that describes how to make the "floating kick" scene: the "Trinity" character jumps up, the camera rotates, and "Trinity" kicks the police officer. --John

Thread: Prop requests | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I second leather-guy's vote: If you're looking for prop suggestions, my Poser characters would love a Big Gulpâ„¢ or, even better, a Super Big Gulpâ„¢. Then again, a Slurpeeâ„¢ would be nice, but not the "fake" Iceeâ„¢! :) Just take a trip to the nearest convenience store/ deli and make props out of whatever they sell (including the building!). Of course, food props are always good to have. And dishes would be nice also. --John

Thread: Sketch Render question | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Actually, the eyeballs and teeth are outlined because the head is the selected object. The sketch renderer is "rendering" the red, outlined lines as if they were part of the image. Before you render, make sure to move the mouse until no body part is selected and then do the sketch-render. This may get tricky since moving your mouse over the main window will cause the body part to be highlighted. The solution is to move the mouse off the main window, and hit "Alt-R" (Render menu) and "S" (Sketch Render option). (If you use a Mac, I don't think there is a way to access the menu using the keyboard .) --John

Thread: This really made me laugh | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
By the time, I saw this link, the bidding had already ended... with no winner and no bids. Dang, and I really wanted to learn "How to change the Figure height to baby". (Isn't that covered in the printed and PDF manuals??) In fact, aren't ALL of their "tutorials" listed in the Poser manual? Then, again, it's probably a good thing I didn't win- it doesn't support Windows XP (but it does support Windows 95... an 8-year old operating system... hmm...). P.S. Scroll down and check out the screen shots of some of their other software. If you look closely, one of their "tutorials" (on ACT 2000) teaches you how to "lockup" (yes, l-o-c-k-u-p) a First Name. (I'm assuming this is a database tutorial on how to lock records to prevent other users from making changes at the same time.) But, don't take their word for it- look at some of the sparking testimonials from their customers: "Works Great!!", "I could really use it" --John

Thread: California Dreaming | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Yes, this is extremely cool, but I have to ask: when? Is Poser 5 ready for beta-testing? Does the product have an official, if approximate, release date... beyond the rumors that it will be "shown" at Siggraph or DragonCon (or the next high-tech convention)? And, most importantly for CL, when will they begin taking orders for Poser 5? --John

Thread: JHOagland's Mat creator - Continuing problems | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Most of the issues that you are talking about have been resolved in the latest version, and, in fact, I have made a few adjustments to the program. This new version, 2.6, is available as a free upgrade for anyone who has purchased the previous versions. If people need it, I can make it available as an "exe"-updater only, so that there is nothing to install. Matb- I knew you were having issues with the program back in January, but I believed that everything had been resolved. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me, but I hadn't heard back from you since then. As for the "0 0" not appearing after the "TextureMap" line, I have double-checked the program, and the latest version for sale, 2.5, creates the MAT Pose correctly. The program will only apply textures to "checked" materials. There is a "Check All" and "Uncheck All" to tell the program to include (or not) the materials in the final MAT pose. However, the "Apply changes to entire figure" is a "shortcut" that only applies the texture within the MAT Pose Applier program. This check box has no effect on whether a material in included in the final MAT Pose. --John

Thread: I have removed many of my Free Stuff items | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Ron- You shouldn't have to remove your free stuff. As the poster above said- until DAZ actually starts issuing "cease and desist" orders (or can prove that you are violating copyrights), you should leave your stuff up. And not to worry- they won't sue you. Because (no offense) if they did, you would raise such a "stink" that everybody-and-their-brother would know what DAZ did to you. And, in the process, DAZ would have so much bad publicity that no one would shop there any more. So, in the interest of "protecting" their sales, if they sued you, they would effectively kill their sales. And if DAZ did actually sue you, then they would have to sue every other person who has made free stuff like you have... and, again, this would kill their own market. --John
