Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 11 12:18 am)
Gerald, I have to tell you that of all of the people who generously contribute to this site, you are one of my favorites. I love your whole "fast 3D" philosophy. Also, as things get more and more "realistic" (and therefore more complicated) in the Poser world, you point the way to doing things economically and simply. You are a zen master. Thanks for all your neat stuff, and for your "take" on using Poser to have fun.
I love him! He's just perfect. I was crazy about Doctor Who and attended the Visions conventions for several years. Too bad the show went away. A few years ago, someone made a poseable Dalek. I wonder if that still exists somewhere. How about a Davros? Cyberman? Ice Warrior? What a fun show! Thanks, Gerald, for the great K-9! Melanie
Brilliant, love the model, and yay! More Dr Who fans! :D I've got the 'blueprints' (or at least assembly instructions) for a Dalek somewhere (wrote to the BBC asking for info back when I did a Dr Who-influenced unit for my art exams at school). They'd probably make a reasonable basis for a 3D computer model, although I'm pretty sure I've seen a Dalek and a Cyberman somewhere already.
Gerald- Another excellent model! But, I have one small suggestion: what about including a little history? I'll start you out: K-9 was a companion for the 4th Doctor (Tom Baker), lasting from the late 1970's to the early 1980's. His first appearance was in the episode The Invisible Enemy. His last appearance was in Warrior's Gate, when he and Romana II stayed behind in E-Space. (This is also the third-to-last episode of the 4th Doctor). K-9's next appearance would be in the "one-off" special, K-9 and Company, where he helped Sarah Jane Smith solve a mystery. After that, both K-9 and Sarah Jane would both appear in the 20th anniversary episode, The Five Doctors (now available on DVD). There were actually 3 K-9 units to travel with the Doctor- the first two were either damaged or destroyed at some point, and the third stayed behind with Romana. K-9 Mark 4 was specially made for Sarah Jane. --John

Oh, boy, does that bring back memories. I hope to see more Doctor Who 3D things. I would love to see the 4th Doctor's long scarf and his long frock coat. What a treat that would be. I would love to try to make Michael into each of the 8 Doctors, but that would be a huge project, especially trying to find all the clothing, and trying to texture the 6th Doctor's coat (Colin Baker) would be a project in itself. I was lucky enough to meet several of them (Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, and Colin Baker), as well as several of the companions, at Visions in Chicago, several years ago. This is a great thread! Thanks, Gerald, for reviving K-9 for us. Melanie

erm you got some of K9's history wrong... K9 Mk1 indeed joined the Doctor in the Invisible Enemy. He left the Doctor with Leela in 'The Invasion or Time' staying with Leela on Gallifrey. ;) K9 Mark 2 left with Romana. and K9 mark 3 is with Sarah Jane. the Mark 4 I mentioned ealier was to be the star of 'K9 Adventures', of which I hope to have scans up soon. in the meantime.. here's a Dalek... plans from the BBC that formed the FIRST Dalek to seen on screen.....infact here's the info from the BBC Doctor Who Website 'K9 (Voice: John Leeson, David Brierley) "The Invisible Enemy" to "Warriors' Gate" (and spin-off "K9 and Company - A Girl's Best Friend") K9 was the creation of Professor Marius, who had made the loyal robot dog to circumvent weight restrictions when travelling to the Bi-Al asteroid. When he returned to Earth, Marius gave K9 to the Doctor. Capable of independent thought, and equipped with a blaster, K9 was a useful companion. The Doctor gave K9 to Leela when he left her on Gallifrey, but had already prepared K9 Mk II. Despite numerous technical problems which put him out of action, K9 Mk II travelled with the Doctor until he was given to Romana as a parting gift. The Doctor sent another K9 to Sarah ne Smith, after she had returned to Earth.'
My father's friend played one of the non-speaking Daleks but graduated to a speaking one after a few years. I never missed an episode of Dr Who.......my favourites were Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker. When we went to England we took a detour to Longleat House to see the Dr Who exhibit there. It was the highlight of my trip :-)
I love this thread. Right now, I'm home recovering from pneumonia and this thread is a real treat and a great pick-me-up. Thanks so much for making me feel better. The memories are great. I was lucky enough to meet John Leeson at the conventions, too, and he was a really funny guy. He came flying into the hotel elevator with a bunch of us and when the door closed, he said, "Well, I guess you're all wondering why I've called this meeting." The funny thing was that some of the people in the elevator were not conventioners, they were business people who were there for a marketing conference or something, and they probably wondered what sort of nuts had invaded the hotel. Thanks for the updated history. I was trying to do it from memory! :-) Anyway, I forgot to mention- if anyone would like plans for the exterior of the TARDIS, I posted a couple of pictures in the Lightwave Forum. (The picuture are scans from the Doctor Who Technical Manual.) --John

My favourite line from the entire TV series ....
The Doctor (taunting some Daleks from whom he's escaped):
"If you're supposed to be the superior race of the universe, why don't you try climbing after us?"
I would love to see a TARDIS interior set for Poser. No one has tried doing the control console yet, to my knowledge. I've downloaded several pictures of it, but I think it's way beyond my modeling skills. The walls with the "roundels" would be fairly easy, and could be reconfigured to create different parts of the environment, but the console is quite a project. And there were so many different versions. It seems like every season had a new design to the console. I never cared for the antique one. Melanie
