Lots of great suggestions here! Crescent-- how do I create UV coordinates? Sorry-- I'm a terrible newbie.
Thread: Help me make a transparency map for this hair please! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi! That's very helpful. Is the ability to select 'all files' new? I'm on a Mac, and found that the latest UVmapper version was very unstable on my old, old machine (as in: it crashed on launch), so I'm using an earlier version of UVmapper. It doesn't seem to be able to import 'all files', just .objs. I'd figured that I might need to use a new exported .obj-- the thing is, Lady Cherry has made this hair with so many morph targets that it's great to use as is, and I would love to be able just to apply a transparency to her model, but I fear I'm going to have to go through a very complex rigamarole indeed. :(

There are some seam guides in the Free Stuff section hereabouts for Posette and the p4 dorky guy; maybe they might help your blurriness problem? Prsonally I think Photoshop is about the best thing since sliced bread...

Lovely sandals! They look very comfy. You know what-- I think a cork, cut in half longways and scanned, would make a very nice texture for the soles.

Oh ho... I see... Hm, then how will I apply the map to the different groups? Thanks for your help!

I use a Mac. We may be a minority, but we're a powerful one-- and I don't care for media that doesn't make itself presentable to us, when it is so, so easy to do so.

Not half the blast I did with Dragon Factory. Wow, wow, wow! If you know anybody who's thinking about it, tell them to go for it! It's WAY better than the reviews make it out to be! Michael is every bit as good as Victoria. I can't believe all the time I spent trying to get a good-looking character out of the P4 dork (with immense help from Traveller's MTs) and how incredibly easy it is with Michael. He is such a versatile model! And I am well pleased with the ability to create dramatic poses-- the so much better joints and the additional face morphs mean that I can make far more realistic action-type poses. Of course that's the first thing I tried... I'm sure the subtleties will blow me away when I get around to them. Gotta get those clothes! Anyone know a good way to not eat for a week? :P How can you tell I just finished my Ph.D? Time for playing with all this wonderful stuff!
Thread: My First Half-Decent Image - Constructive Critisism Only please :O) | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
That's really nice-- I like the lighting and the expression on her face... Constructive: Very nice set of the face, but I think we're missing the shadows for the eyelashes. In such a heavily shadowed image, it does stand out. I think you could do with a bit more detail in the texture map. Bring out her eyebrows (I don' t see any!), her lips, and a bit of colour on the cheeks and forehead couldn't go astray. The texture map is half the character, as far as I can tell. I do love the expression-- I can see a lot of careful work went into that!

Well, I'm on what most graphic artists would call a crap system: 128 meg RAM, a piddling 4 GB HD. Oh, and it's a Mac, so very few of the freebies/cheap stuff are usable to me (and NO, I will NOT give up the Mac; you couldn't pay me to!). One thing that Mac really did right-- and complain all you like about the round mouse-- it is a joy to use. It handles so well, so smoothly, I found I could draw freehand with it. I was delighted. Then the mouse wore out (after 3 years), and I had the tough choice of the Labtec three-button cordless, or the Wacom Graphire, on sale for 8 more. I went for the Graphire. I am not a professional artist, but I must say that the difference that even this entry-level graphics tablet made to me was phenomenal. Unless you really like struggling, I believe that a graphics tablet-- even an entry-level one (and the Graphire is nice)-- is a very valuable investment. So many routine tasks, like selecting, become so much easier, and you will be amazed what you come up with to do with it once you have it. But if you have dogs, keep the pen in a safe place... :)
Thread: Poser Newbie: Question about Transparency Maps! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks very much; I shall try that. I had no idea this was going to be so complicated! I may just do it in post-production. Photoshop is a wonderful thing. Thanks again for your help. I'm sure I'll ask for it again...
Thread: Making my own poses | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
It does indeed appear that to err on the side of silence-- e.g. not offering tweaked poses, unless the original artists are keen to have you do it-- is the wisest course. But would a tutorial on tweaking be out of place? Surely the community at large that still doesn't have Victoria and Michael (not naming names... erm... mea culpa) would benefit from the experience of one well accustomed to helping poses translate from one model to another? If it's feasible, that is.
