and lets not forget about daguerreotypes. I got to see a temporary exhibition of them at the Musee d'Orsay, and god dammit was it ever cool. They even had 3D daguerreotypes a la stereoscopic style. Would love to learn how to do those...
Thread: New PhotoManipulation | Forum: Photography
all around kick ass, and for once, nothing overly manipulated like seen every day in the 2D galleries (you know what I mean, the ones with 25 photos swiped off the net with everything but the kitchen sink imagery), and something of a self portrait too I'll bet... I have one qualm, though actually I have 3 except the other 2 don't really bother me much. The person with the wings in question's skin tone, and the lack of colour reflecting from her surroundings, adds a "pasted on" feeling, simply because the warm blue immediate surroundings of the mushroom aren't really represented. secondly (but once again, I don't really mind this or the next one), I'd like the shadow to be stronger closer to the body, fading to the opacity it is presently at the bottom. lastly (and once again, I don't really care about it), I'd prefer it if the wings on the lady were more melded in, kinda like the meshed a bit more with the skin tone to give them the feel that they are actually coming out of her. Once again though, I love this work. I haven't checked the 2D and photo galleries for months, usually because I just end up seeing repetitive photo montages. While this is a photo montage, it goes beyond the norm, which doesn't "make" it, but certainly adds to it.

Cool Edit Pro was just purchased by Adobe, and has been renamed Adobe Audition. They're charging more for it than syntrillium was (270 Pounds??? Nah man, that's almost 400$), and at the moment, Cool edit Pro 2 can be downloaded from this page http://www.syntrillium.com/shop/ for 249$US. Adobe will be charging 299$ when Audition is released, and "upgrading" from Cool Edit Pro 2 to Adobe Audition is free (I put quotations, because adobe is releasing this "update" only a few months after purchasing, and from what they say about the program, the only new features are likely to be an Audition splash screen, and minor task switching with Premiere), so if you want it, now is the time to buy. Once Audition is officially put on sale (something like a month or so), Cool Edit Pro, and Cool Edit 2000 will cease to be offered (Loopology.com is also gonna be shut down, with Adobe taking over the loop downloads and products). Point being, Cool Edit Pro is fantastic software. Aside from having no midi capabilities (other than small time playback), it's really kickass, with the ability to sync to SMPTE code for video etc. I've used it for almost 2 years, you can't go wrong with it for 250$, unless you have the 800$ needed for programs like Cubase and Logic.

Thread: Value, aesthetics, quality of an image..how to know? | Forum: Photography
you'll get better critics here if you ask for them. The galleries tend to be back patting and nothing more, and usually from the same 4 or 5 people who comment on every single image there is out there. post in here, you'll get the advice you want.

Thread: Nikon Users - Help needed! | Forum: Photography
i can't speak for nikons themselves, but I do know there are issues with the lenses and the field of view. Like sometimes, a 50mm lens will be 50mm on a film camera, but due to the aspect ratio of the digital camera, it becomes a 70mm lens, and stuff like that. Not all Nikons will accept all nikkor lenses. My N2000 is compatible with zoom nikkor, pc-nikkor, reflex nikkor, and AI-Nikkor lenses, but there ain't a chance in hell n auto focus nikkor lens will work on it. Then again, I only started shooting again after a 2 year hiatus in the past month, really, so Alpha's the man to ask here, he uses digital and film Nikon SLRs.
