I hadn't responded as I hadn't received any notifications.rokket posted at 3:11 PM Sat, 24 September 2022 - #4445195
He/She didn't explain anything. He/She didn't know that the notification from sculptris was indicating that it couldn't import a high valence vertex. Not "too many vertices" as stated a couple times as the problem. Now that you have explained it, I have to agree with primorge, because I have run into that problem before with Sculptris. Before I imported the cylinder, I connected the vertices at the caps like he showed in the pics above. You may need a 3D modeling program to accomplish this. There are several that are free if you do a search. Most of them work in quads (4 points/squares), and Sculptris works with tris, but you can still import them.
The problem is too many edges converging to a single vertice.
The Poser cylinder's cap is a convergence of 30 edges to a single vertex. Sculptris only accepts 24.
"Before I imported the cylinder, I connected the vertices at the caps like he showed in the pics above."
I didn't connect any vertices in the cap, I subdivided a cube, lengthened it, and flattened Y axis the ends. I did however add edge loops to the length just to give it more polys. I wouldn't bother performing such a surgery on the cylinder primitive when I can make a topologically better one in about 6 minutes.
Just clarifying the facts. Especially since OP hasn't responded to the actual solution, including a solution file, to a problem he posted on the Poser Forum and had thus far not received a solution. It's 3d modeling 101 that's clear as day by the notification from sculptris.
I do parties.

Thread: Simple cylinder not able to export to scuptris? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
rokket posted at 12:29 PM Sat, 24 September 2022 - #4445181
Hi,I made this in just a couple minutes using a cylinder primitive in Wings and then taking it into Sculptris. I know it's not as detailed as you were planning, but it was just a simple prop. I think maybe you had the cylinder in Poser subdivided.I still don't understand why it was telling you that there were too many vertices.
So in sculptris on its own, from the ball it auto-loads, I made a shillelagh with no issue. Carved details into it, had no problem at all. Exported it out. Worked great in DS.
I showed it to the person, but they wanted it more like the picture they want to use as a reference. Now the image couldn't be simpler.(a staff, with bands of metal at the top and bottom and crystals floating on the top. So simple. But before I put the "bands of metal" on, I need to make the ends looked kind of used. grooves, etc)
So I went in to poser. Loaded the primitive cylinder and lengthened it. Saved as an OBJ and tried to take it into sculptris.
Nope.
Literally. ONLY a base cylinder from poser. That is it. Just that. Just the base cylinder, lengthened by rolling the dial.

Thread: New start, New puter, advice? | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Thank you!! I finally have my NVIDIA and am looking forward to being able to get back into working again with DS.Hello DE,
Congratulations on getting a new machine.
"SO I need advice:
1-absolutely the BEST render settings that will get photorealistic results? (both for architectural scenes and also settings for say figure scenes)
2-Best light set (general use) for DS
3-Best texture set for genesis 8? (both female and male)"
Having glanced at your old gallery, I see you like rendering darker scenes. Your scenes are similar to mine (low lighting). So I will share what I know to work best with darker renders based on my experience. I know you are asking for the best, I have used D S for about 5 yr now as a part time hobby, so I might not know the BEST stuff out there, but I hope what I share can get you started.
1. the render setting that I frequently use for my renders :
and
For crispier renders. don't use the denoiser. Change the pixel filter from default 1.5 to 1 or lower.
Set max samples to 5000 or higher. I set mine at 10000. set max time to 0This may not be the BEST setting, but it should be enough to get rid of the fireflies in your dark renders. Ofcource, you can always stop the render when you feel that your render quality is to your satisfaction.
2. Lights...  I can't give you any suggestions since I've never purchased any light set. Lighting is very subjective. Every scene requires a different set of light. There are so many variations and it's. I suggest you learn proper lighting by first understand each DS lighting tool. I watched WP Guru aka Jay Versluis youtube channel. and photographic lighting tutorials on youtube.
Lighting is 75% of the work you have to put into your scene, so there is no light sets out there that will give you a perfect scene all the time.
3. BEST shaders/textures. This is very subjective. I can only tell you what I've used and like. I haven't tested all the shaders out there. I will just suggest a few PA's that I've purchased from. For G8.1F,I've used ChangelingChick's RozalinaHD, and Mousso's Echo. For G8F, I've used Sangriart, Saiyaness, Mousso, Chevybabe25. For G8m, I've used Phoenix1966, and Mousso,
I haven't got anything 8.1 yet.
Most of these shaders are quite photo realistic with the right lighting
Side note: Don't get to hung up on photo realism. Don't give up aesthetics for the sake of realism. A well made cinematic movie is always prettier than a documentary imho.
Good Luck!
JV

Thank you!! I much appreciate itEasiest workaround: Get Poser 11 while it is on sale.
Otherwise:
Switch the library from FLASH to AIR.

That's how I run my PP 2014 on Windows 10.

No. 4.9 still allows offline use, and you can still install content manually.
but I have read you have to allow it access to the net and reinstall all your previous content. some say once some say permanently. do they download your scenes from your puter? I thought you had to use their cloud service. I thought you also had to reinstall all the content again using their cloud service for the stuff to work?
You're speaking of DAZ Connect which you don't have to use. Just select offline in dialog box and you can work as usual.
so I wont have to dl all my content again? I can just slip over my folder from my old puter to the new one and the new install?

what we do with the finale renders might be different but the concept of DAZ Poser. is exactly the same ,get premade stuff n render it.
the concept of unity n unreal. is exactly the same ,make game.
all the venders are making there materials for iray so u half to render in iray. Poser venders can do the same thing with SuperFly materials.
There chat how DAZ users use the morph brush.
I viewed your gallery DarkElegance I would think the better your renders the more clients you would get. So how do you get totally awesome Renders ?
IN havent updated my gallery here in years. unfortunately my epilogue gallery just vanished so I cant really show you current work. https://twitter.com/Art_of_DarkEleg is the only place right now to see my current stuff. I do wish faster rendering. THAT is my number one concern right now.
