As you are modelling the zeppelin in Rhino, the material I would suggest for the "bag" would be the steel cage with the transpancy filter removed. This gives a nice plate metal material.

Great image. Do you delete the ground plane and work from the default altitude or do you raise the level of the camera to give your pics elevation?

I know this isn't quite on topic since it definitely doesn't push the envelope as mush as you did but... In a series of jungle images I created a couple of months ago, I used a date palm tunk with large gingko leaves to make a pretty convincing flower. Boring but it worked. :) On the topic of render time versus final image, I've discovered recently that it doesn't nescessarily depend on the artist. Sometimes it can depend on the client as well. If you are making an image for publication and you have a deadline, some sacrifices may need to be made. Just my $.02

The program Universe mentioned above can be downloaded here. Their free version doesn't allow for planet or galaxy images but for plain starfields it's fantastic. I created this with just the free version.Thread: Odd feature of Bryce | Forum: Bryce
I didn't just let this render "overnight." It was over three nights. The render size is 5091 by 1831 pixels at 300 dpi. Add in the volumetric materials and it's FUBAR. I'm running a 700 Mhz Athlon into the ground. :) High time for an upgrade.

Forgot to add, if this is nescessary to help with the recomendation, I will be using this primarily for Sci-Fi archtecture and vehicles. Thanks again

I would try starting from the Bright Sand Beach texture in the presets and then manipulate the colors a bit. For woodchips I'd suggest adding a transparent procedure to a trunk material. Clear as mud?

I also recomend rendering to disk so that you can set the DPI rather then having to scale down. Bryce can only render 5000x5000 pixels @ 72 DPI maximum unless you render to disk.

To roughen up the stairs you might want to try making it a terrain, rather then primitives. The biggest problem with bump textures is that they have no effect on the edges. With the angle of your light source the edges are all the camera is catching. Try drawing a basic stairway in the terrain editor. Pixelate it and then add noise. This may help remove the jagged edge. Very nice pic so far though.
Thread: Bryce 5 upgrade - which platform is it ok for?? | Forum: Bryce
I'm running Bryce 5 on 98se right now with no trouble. Also, both Mac and Win versions come on the same disk.

I want to be like Clay! I have to say that you last post inspired me to try an animation, but it is nothing compared to this. Thanks for the inspiration though and a goal to shoot for. We're not worthy!
Thread: How do I do this? | Forum: Bryce
The only way to screw something up is if you don't like the effect. Some material can begin to look unreal the more reflective they get but go with what you like. Overdoing specularity and reflection can have an adverse effect on your render time though, so when you are rendering your scene I suggect using the TIR option in the Render Options dialog. This way you can limit the number of "Total Internal Reflections" and keep the raytracer from bogging down in infinite reflective loops.
Thread: Buy Bryce...what else is needed? | Forum: Bryce
Rochr already pointed out one; Poser. If you want human ojects in your Bryce scenes, Poser is a must. I also have aquired Amapi as a modeller just to be able to create some unique shapes that I could otherwise not make, or would take forever to make, with Boolean operations. But, Like Rochr said, Depending on your needs, Bryce may be all you need.
