not sure I completely understand, but... 1, unless there's some good reason not to, why not just make the whole thing one file. Do you mean merge 2 pictures together in photoshop or something?... 2, maybe show a bit of the side of the cliff not just the flat top 3, maybe instead of the plane use another terrain, which would be easy to round off the landscape on the right looks nice. (maybe change the sky up a bit ;)

I've had a somewhat similar problem. Can't remember the exact steps but I think I load picture texture with a white alpha channel, set ambient and diffuse to that tex, open up another picture texture, load the same picture again, only copying the picture into the alpha as well as the color channels, then I try to set that 'B' texture to control specularity, then error, crash. it works fine if I go in some other order

Dave, you can also have a light track an invisible object. This makes it a little easier I think to get a spotlight exactly where you want it to shine.

while you are on the subject: does anyone know a way to make a decent brushed steel material. Like the kind one might see on the hilt of a sword. I've tried picture textures, procedurals just about everything I can think of. thanks
Thread: Interesting tree lab bug? | Forum: Bryce
A question: I've heard it said before that Bryce trees are just metaballs duplicated along several paths. If this is true then why does the wireframe only show the outside of the tree since Bryce can't do true booleans?
Thread: First attempt at DOF | Forum: Bryce
Actually, I think you have a nice effect with what you're doing but I agree that the DOF blurring is too much. It makes the image look small. Nice job
Thread: First attempt at DOF | Forum: Bryce
There is a neat alternative to Bryce's DOF which you may already know. Render your scene normally first without the DOF setting. Then save that image and make another render with the "distance mask" (I think that's what it's called)setting turned on. In photoshop load both images. On the grayscale distance mask image go to select> color range. Put the eyedropper on the area in the preview window that you want in focus and move the fuzziness slider all the way to the left. Then save that selection, load it into your normal render, and apply a blur filter for the amount that you want.
Thread: Negative lighting | Forum: Bryce
Its use is mentioned in RWB4. I think the way she puts it is that they can help add dramatic lighting effects to a scene. For example you might want a deeper shadow in one part of your scene so you could put a negative light in there.

Happy holidays all. (the pagan origin of St. Valentine's day is an interestin one if I recall correctly)
Thread: Too many model files, chaos reigns, help! | Forum: Bryce
I'm not quite there yet with the amount of models but you might make a text document which lists the name of the model and which directory or CD it is in. this might be a pain if you already have a bunch of models...
Thread: Bryce Import Problems | Forum: Bryce
Good trick Alan. Sounds like a better alternative to waiting 3o minutes for a model to import and then getting an error message.
