Hah! "Imagineer". I thought I made that up! I used that word in a poem I wrote ages ago (high school, I think). Misha, yeah, it's the basic one, just titled "The Camera". I work with a little point-and-click digital camera at the moment, while I teach myself the basics of composition. I've been thinking about buying either a nice digital with manual features, or a a traditional film camera, but I didn't have a clue where to start. After reading this, I not only understand traditional cameras of all sorts, I can make a better decision about what type of digital to look for. I almost bought the "Examples" book too, but my six year-old pointed out that it wasn't fair that I should get two books, when she only got one (yes, I could have bought her another one too, but her room already looks like a library). -Taltos

Heh. It's neat to see a map from the other side of the ocean. All the maps here in the U.S. have North/South America on the left. Anyway... It might be nice to have a set of larger maps. Maybe one for each continent? I know if I put an x on my humble aboad, it would place me anywhere from Maine to Rhode Island. -Taltos

Good point about the 3rd photo. I don't have any shots from that side, but the town where I took this isn't too far away. It's a nice sunny day today, maybe I'll head back there and see what I can do. I had thought about flipping the side photo so that both panels faced toward the center, but the manipulation seemed too obvious to me. Even putting in the extra tree felt like cheating to me.

Yup. That's the bit. I always think of this stage as the dandelion version of an afterlife though.
Thread: i have a question | Forum: Photography
I thought the blossom on a dandelion was the yellow bit (er... the actual flower) and the white bit afterwards was the seed. -shrugs- Whatever it's called, it's a lot of fun to make wishes on. -Taltos, Flower Expert

Sounds like Milkweed to me. Or maybe Dandelion fluff (there's probably a real term for it) when they start to turn to seed. -Taltos

I wonder if we all take pics of tracks at one point or another. I did a series of these last summer. I've got a couple of worm's-eye view shots that I took using the timer on my camera.
Thread: When bad photos turn good | Forum: Photography
Inverted colors in image, copied to another layer, and then converted to black & white. It's too dark for my tastes, but it seemed to eliminate the grain.

The first is simply converted to black & white.

There is a filter in PS that will do what you want. I forget exactly which one, but if you hunt you should find it.
Thread: Rainy Monday | Forum: Photography
Wow! Gorgeous photo. We do need the rain, except... It's snowing here instead. 90 degrees three days ago, and a quarter-inch of snow today. -shrugs-

I definately felt it in my neck of the woods. I'm a couple hundred miles south of Plattsburgh, on the other side of the lake. Shook the whole apartment. I was sleeping too. In my groggy state, I thought it was my six year-old trying to wake me up for breakfast. :-) Very strange sensation for a native New Englander.

Awesome reflection on the floor. Remdinds me of the dance studio where my daughter practices (she always slips and falls down if she forgets her ballet slippers).

LOL! Jordy, I've had those same thoughts... "Look at the green grass." Hmm... I wonder if she's actually seeing my version of green, or if her green is my blue... Thanks for the comments all. Now if I can just get a decent printer (one of the drawbacks of being all digital).
