Just to mention another possibility. The Fuji S1 and S2Pro digital cameras uses AF Nikon lenses. If I had the money I would buy the Fuji over the Nikon, but I just purchased the new CDMavica at 5 MP that uses 3" mini disks instead of memory cards/sticks. I'm very happy with my purchase @ $700.

Now these are some pretty abstracts. Excellent example...Oh yea...we're not voting...just talking...I have seen a glass blower in action so figured these were glass or acrylic objects, but it didn't dawn on me that they could be paper weights!!

Good examples of abstract would be "reflections" or something out of focus maybe that still has an appealing sense of design. Enax has a great example of an abstract with "Big Brother"

At first glance the top photo reminded me immediately of something M.C. Escher would have drawn...Similar in theme to "Up and Down" and "Relativity"...Now whether it could be defined as abstract or not is a differnt matter. MC Escher was a genius with symmetry drawings and unreal POV's. Some of his work takes a minute to absorb but you eventually figure it out. Escher was abstract in his thinking and POV but his subjects for the most part are recognizable. Sorry...I don't have any links to Escher..perhaps going to GOOGLE and typing in MC Escher would land on his work.

The key for me was what do I want to see for the next 2 yrs when I load the page. Initial impact is important, yet without being too busy or too loud. I selected 9 in initial viewing, then narrowed it down to 2 then finally just one. I know Renderosity is primarily 3D in building spaces and posing unreal human/fantasy forms...but that gets old for me after awhile. Originality is very important. After years of viewing images you see the "trends" come and go. There are incredible tools available now that make creating work easier, but at what price. Don't let the tools overpower your creativity. But what do I know...

I have both Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop, and like randyrives says, I too use Paint Shop Pro more, because it is easier to use and learn than Photoshop. Photoshop is the industry standard only because it was the first...other programs are more streamlined, yet I find the tools in Paint Shop Pro are just as good as in Photoshop for most applications.

Some of it has to do with your location. In the larger metro areas where there is more work available, you would have better success finding work as an assistant. Take New York for instance, it is a breeding ground for new talent but very hard to become established in the trade. Those that are established are not afraid of new talent, because they know you will have to work your butt off once you strike out on your own, and the clients are fairly loyal once they find a photographer they enjoy working with.

Thanks for this information!! Being a "newbie" to digital manipulation, I am limited by my own learning curve. This helps straighten out that curve and "sharpen" it.
