Well, here in Newfoundland we have places with names like Hibb's Hole (later changed to the more gentile Hibb's Cove), Come-By-Chance, Conception Bay and Dildo!
...aaand out west we have "Head-Smashed-in Buffalo Jump". How's 'the rock' these days Bye? Got enough snow?

@Moriador "I guess it depends on why you want to sell content. I think (though I certainly don't know) that a lot of vendors decide to make their products available for sale, not because they expect to make a living wage from them, but because they want to release them for people to use (which is its own kind of joy) for the love of simply making them and seeing them rendered -- but at the same time, they'd like to recoup at least some of the costs."
I certainly admire those who make art (of whatever sort) for it's own sake but admit to being a bit greedy and a lot selfish. I like the air of exclusivity and will probably only share my clothes with a small group of like minded weirdos (don't ask).
It would be interesting to see sales, membership, and visit figures for the bigger sites.

As a professional photographer and graphic artist I'm well aware of how much of a struggle it can be to stay solvent. I latched onto a government position many years ago and have enjoyed a steady paycheck and now an indexed pension while many of my friends in the industry lamented their choice of a career in the field; and occasionally had to take other jobs to pay the rent. It seems that making content for Poser/Daz is much the same. This thread has been an eye opener as I've toyed with the idea of selling my clothes for a few extra bucks. After following the conversation I've decided that I'm not willing to put in the time required, I have too many other hobbies that demand my attention. Over the years I've had the pleasure of getting to know a few content creators and this is what initially inspired me. But between the pirate community stealing stuff (and being dammed proud of the fact) and the low return rate on the time invested, I'll keep my clothes to myself. It's kind of a relief for me as I can now relax and just play with Poser.
Speaking of pirates, I see that KAT has just been taken down. This was the most popular community for Poser thieves. I remember one content artist mentioning that when launching his latest item, he had under a dozen sales over a couple of weeks with many dozens (I don't remember the numbers) of folks putting it in their wish lists. His item then hit the sleazy Asian and Russian sites, followed by the torrent sites. Within days his sales dropped to almost nothing and the bulk of potential customers removed the item from their wish lists. That's gotta be disheartening for an artist after investing all the time to make something your proud of.

I too have used it for ages. I manage a massive image database at work with TB 's of pictures and graphics. 'Everything' will find a picture amongst those many TB's as quick as I can click the mouse. One of the programmers in the office says that the secret to it's success is that it catalogues by file name only and doesn't try to include each files data (the death of Window's Explorer).
Thread: what would you want in Love temple theme? (Poser, DS, obj) | Forum: The MarketPlace Wishing Well
Are we talking romantic love or erotic love ?
I think a nice chapel would serve both quite well. ;-)

I'm snowed in and ready to exercise my modeling chops.
Ah!...so that's you who lives next door to me. Then please stop pointing your snowblower into my driveway, I have plenty of my own. :-)
I'd like to see a small Vegas style wedding chapel.

I've looked at the same thing just for fun. I have a comfortable military pension, a wife who works, a fun part time job, my house is (finally!) paid off and the kids are long gone (Yippee!) so money isn't a problem. I love making stuff and feel that there's still plenty of room for original content. I feel that the fantasy items are overdone and there's a yawning chasm begging to be filled with period clothing, formal wear, vintage stuff, and regular day wear. We could also use a bigger variety of architecture. CGBytes seems to have the best deal as a broker, with no requirement to be exclusive. Being Canadian they also have the lowest corporate taxes which translates into a better deal for vendors. They are also the only broker who does anything about pirates. There's a gent ('Doc') who spends his days sending take down notices to the torrent sites. I rarely see Renderotica or CGBytes items in the sharing sites.

What with that and the new de-activation process slipped into the Game Dev version 2015 has not started well for Poser in my view.
It's both sad and interesting to watch marketing 'experts' slowly destroy a company. I hope Smithmicro smartens up as I love the program. I gave up gaming to play with dolls in Poser and thought that the money I spent on Poser was great value. I'm sure Steve will do well.

I also support it but will eat my keyboard if Rendo-pig-headed-run-by-marketing-morons-rosity allows it.

Here's another little (free) gem I forgot about (again). Thousands of lines of text can be a bear to wade through. This program simply presents it in a more logical, collapsible manner.
CR2Editor by John Stallings: A free and simple editor that can take some of the grunt work out of fiddling with the CR2 file. You still need to understand what you're doing so it's not a replacement for Notepad++, rather it's an aid.

...almost forgot these folks...
Dr Geep's Site: It comes across as childish at first but on closer inspection proves to be an in depth and comprehensive set of tutorials on the blood and guts of Poser. It's somewhat disorganized in navigation and doesn't appear to have been updated in some time, but remains one of the first places you should visit when learning Poser.http://drgeep.com/
Poser Dependant Parameters by Denis Gravel: An in-depth technical treatise on everything you've ever wanted to know about DPs (ERC, or Extended Remote Control). He's promised more tutorials along this line and I email him every month reminding him of his promise. He has several other tutorials in PDF format that delve into the math behind Poser which are quite interesting in their own right. His paper on Poser Matrix Methods showed me (finally!) why Poser's rotation order is so important. Great material from a fellow Canuck.

English Bob's site: Some excellent tutorials and information on the obj format and what happens to it when saved in various programs. Another prolific supporter of the Poserverse and frequently seen in various forums.

Modeling for Poser by Stefan Kotuziak. For eight bucks it's a good read and provides some interesting insights into errors to avoid when making 3D items for Poser. Has information I've not seen anywhere else. http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/modelling-for-poser/82834/
Unofficial CR2 Specification. Follow the link to many pages detailing the cr2 file specs in all it's gory details.
The site seems to be devoid of activity since the fall but a PDF is available. Grab it in case the site goes under.

You do not need an expensive program to create content. Everything can be done by editing the cr2 directly. Take the time to learn how the various files are put together and you'll be much further ahead.
Content Creation in Poser 5 by B.L. Render: Do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars, buy this book now! While it's listed in Amazon or Barnes & Noble, there are usually several copies on eBay for under 20 bucks. Get one.I can't say enough about it as it cleared up ALL of my CR2 questions. An invaluable resource despite being for an older version of Poser. Think of it as a combination of the Bible, Torah, Koran and the Bhagavad Gita for Poser. Every CC I've talked to swears by this book. She even details the rigging of mechanical items including how to rig a piston. The author is sadly, no longer active in the community but will answer polite emails.

They seem to have knuckled under to the brain dead evil known as 'marketing professionals'. I've voted with my wallet by deleting my old account, NOT buying anything here anymore and NOT contributing to the forum. I'd hoped to sell my items here soon but will be taking them elsewhere. I've asked a couple of artists if they'd sell me their items through some other seller (or privately) and was rewarded with one purchase through his/her own alternate site. Hopeing that others take up the bandwagon.

Well said Pumeco and thanks for the link to Hitfilm, looks interesting. I've been using Blender's video editor instead of Premiere and am pleased to report that it hasn't crashed once! Blender's motion tracker is brilliant and there are lots of replacements for Photoshop.
