not sure what you mean.
as to posting the picture, if it's an effect you want to accomplish, i wouldn't hit you with copyright infringement. it's within the forum, and the purpose of posting it was to ask advice...
if you can annotate on the picture what you are looking to replicate, we can try and give you the best solution. if you want to crop the picture to the area of interest it's fine by me.

i would recommend using displacement maps too. that should give you the effect you are looking for bone.
Thread: Trouble Cleaning Flyout Brush Menu | Forum: Photoshop
i've always gone to my CS(vers#)/Presets/Brushes folder/directory and dragged my unwanted .abr (brushes) files out.
you'll need to relaunch PS to have the brush table reload... if it still shows the brushes, toss out your PS pref file. this will force PS to reload all the settings and tables...

Thread: Help finding a section in Photoshop CS | Forum: Photoshop
reading through the thread, i kept thinking it sounded a lot like functions in painter... but like lucie said, you can probably create a similar effect in photoshop.
a lot of times i scan random watercolor pieces and other effects (such as salted watercolor) and use them in pieces that i want to replicate traditional works.
do you have a sample of something you'd like to achieve?
it'd be fun brainstorming solutions....

Thread: PhotoShop Freebies | Forum: Photoshop
Quote - ### Naturally Increased Light In Photoshop
The light of the sun creates texture. There are shadowy areas and spots where the sunlight can shine without interference. To control the intensity, you can draw more light onto a separate layer or increase already existing light. Create a new layer by going to Layer → New → Layer, or by pressing
Shift + Control + N
on Windows orShift + Command + N
on a Mac. Set the blending mode to “Color Dodge” and the opacity to about 15%.
Thank you for the insightful post but please remove it from this thread and create a new one (by adding it here instead of creating your own, you have hijacked this thread) it makes it dificult to comment when multiple threads are joined.
thanks,

ya know, you make a useful thread sticky and it attracts spammers like ants to a picnic!!!

Thread: how can i export layers | Forum: Photoshop
@Lionhead, did this resolve your issue?
i'd go with the PNG method if the image quality is sustained, if not, you can still export a TIFF with an "alpha channel" if need be...

Thread: What Is The Best PS Tool To Use | Forum: Photoshop
one other way would be to treat the woman and couch separately. then place each on their own layer in Photoshop. you can then lower her "into" the surface of the couch (as anything in the real-world bearing any amount of weight would do...) you can use various tols to distort the surface of the couch to make folds and indentations around her...
it's always easier if you can freely move elements around to develop a perceived reality.

Thread: can I move all my palettes over onto my cintiq monitor | Forum: Photoshop
you'd actually would want the pallette to move back when disconected from the second monitor, because there's noting worst then having a window pop-up off screen with no way to access it!! (have had this happen to me before and it's a pain in the body-part!!)
i haven't tried the workspace method (spanning screens...) but theoretically it should work (i'll try it myself when i get to the office)

i have the right mouse button set as one but i haven't really applied any other... still can't decide.
Thread: Help please. What type of degree or education? | Forum: Photoshop
I am another one of the "no degree" types but i've been in the field for over 25 years. Knowing how to draw and paint helped get my foot in the door (many, many years ago...) but they are not required a whole lot in my final product. i do work out a lot of preliminary layouts on paper first but finish up digitally.
my best advice is to study that which you are trying to create. meaning, if you are looking to utilize your skills of photo-retouching in glamour and pagentry you need to understand how lighting effects the subject. you need to understand how makeup artists concel imperfections, how hair stylists weave their magic. and then try to replicate that digitally. if you don't have a good grasp of the "real life", your digital work will look plastic. View the computer as just another tool.
