Sigh,
Thanks SVDL.
Its sooo maddening to have all this processing/rendering power and not be able to use it.
P7 in theory will now allow large scenes to be rendered but now you just can't pose them. How Ironic.
funnily enough, my other workstation has two nvida 7900gtx, running in sli and even that bogs down, Crazy, though it can handle more than my new system.
Will try Sreed viewer, forgot about that one.

Yeay,
Give me victorian Stuff, holmes and watson type stuff, pirate stuff, van helsing monster slaying stuff.
I am in the process of buying EVERYTHING victorian for some major upcoming projects, and I am desparate to use Apollo for alot of the scenes.

Thread: OT Processors, cores and whatknots | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi,
I have a dual core FX 60 running at 2.7 ghz and a new, recently acquired Quad core running at 2.8ghz. Both systems have 4 gig ram and comparable harddrives etc.
I did a speed comparison check yesterday morning on a fairly complex scene that required alot of raytracing. Loaded scene on both systems simultianiously and hit the render button.
The quad core rendered the scene in 25 minutes, the dual core took 1 hour. But I agree Poser 7 use of mutli threading is crap.
So my own conclusion is get as many cores as you can with as much memory as you can and pray that E-frontier will improve Posers multi core handling, or get carrara, it uses all four cores properly and renders a better scene in a quarter of the time.
Peace,
Nick.
Thread: poser - carrara Imports | Forum: Carrara
Hi mark,
Thanks for the tip, I shall have a play around in the shader editor. I have ten days off of work starting today and I intend to use that time to get to know Carrara better.
Many Thanks.

1358, in eastern archery the arrow is shot from the right side of the fist, in western archery it tends to be shot from the left. So you weren't doing it wrong if you were practicing eastern archery.
Most eastern archery is also practised from horseback hence the need to have the arrow on the right side of the hand.
I've been a practising martial artist for 24 years, weapons both eastern and western for 16 of those.
Sorry of topic but hey.
Thread: using Shade 8.5 in combinantion with P6 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thank you everyone for your advice. you have been very heplful.
I think I shall download shade standard and take it for a spin. The price deal for P6 owners is just too good an opportunity to pass up. i'll let you know how I get on. No doubt 'HELP ME' questions will follow. heehee
I intend to get Vue as well but shall wait for the much anticipated V6i.
Again Many thanks,
NM.
Thread: P4 render Vs Firefly | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Doesn't the P4 renderer use more memory than Firefly when rendering???
I seem to recall a couple of months ago when I was doing render comparisons with task manager open that P4 was using upto 200meg more to render the same image as Firefly. Could have been down to relative settings though.

I believe an artist is an individual who uses a particular medium to express themselves. There are various different tools that people can use to express ideas, concepts and images and I feel that they are all valid.
Whetther you use that medium to produce good 'art' is a matter of opinion and as such is highly subjective, though it can be very obvious when crap is being produced.
The argument about which package is better etc, or produces better 'art' is one that rages through every area where people undertake an activity that ends with a visual result.
I have been a practicing Martial 'artist' for 23 years and teaching sword fighting for 13 years the same arguments and opinions rage through that hobby. As a discipline it takes a lifetime to perfect the skills required to use a weapon well, the same can be said for visual meduims too, as david said there is a craft invovled in what we do, which can take a lifetime to learn.
Dont shy away from calling yourself's artists for that is what you are. Whether you produce good 'art' or not that's the real question and of course is a matter of opinion.
