Re-reading my post, it doesn't look at all clear so will try again :S
If the problem is how do you identify the part of the finger you want to measure then a possible solution is to follow the motion capture technique of attaching something easy to identify to the part you are interested in. Poser can do something similar, it is very common for users to attach an object such as a ring to a character's finger. When the finger (or any part of the character) is moved Poser ensures the ring follows the finger. In the Poser user interface this is achieved by selecting an object and via it's property form and setting it's parent to the part you want to follow.
If the depth-map script doesn't allow you to select the part to measure, maybe combing this approach with the script will. Â
Good luck

First I do not know anything of python and I do not mean to waste your time. This is just a suggestion of a possible solution using Poser.
Is it not possible to attach a prop to an untransformed "standard hand" to the position you want using python, apply the necessary scale and translation/rotation changes to the figure's IK and then grab the world coordinate position of the prop again so you can calculate the vector between it and the camera. If you want a vector for the direction the finger is pointing you should be able to get that from the relevent IK section or by adding a second prop along the original IK section.
This is based on pure spectulation, Â I hope it will provoke a more useful comment from someone who knows about Posers Python API.

Does poser lighting work like this? I always got the feeling that it normalised around the strongest light source.

If you've applied collision detection to the whole body I can't see how it could be down to missing a part.
It is not clear from the image if this is a problem to do with the collision function not working at all or that collisions are being incorrectly calculated. Are you happy that poser is attempting to apply collisions (i.e. the PC runs slower than a three legged dog in treacle when you run the simulation)?Â

Hi RedPhantom.
Regarding the collision problem, don't know if you already tried this.
In the pose room select the hip of your character. In the properties enable Collision detection and then press the "Apply Collision Setting to Children"
Go back to the hair room and recalculate the dynamics.Â

Thread: Poser Hangs on Importing .obj Files? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
If you're running Poser on Win7 it could be a problem with the GUI freezing rather than the obj format. If you think this applies trying exiting every other application running on the desktop to see if Poser unfreezes.

Clarification on the flash issue.
It's specific to Google Chrome only. IE does not cause a problem. Google support site already has references to it and from customer comments it appears applicable to both Poser 8 and 2010. I wouldn't be surprised if this already appears in a poser forum somewhere in RR.Â
Hang appears to be related to using video and audio files, unfortunately didn't find a fix.
Sorry for the misinformation, I must have forgotten to close down chrome during the testing. If this doesn't help good luck with resolving your issue.

Hmm, on the PC, the render->preview pause were the same with and without flash. However, there is a hanging point just after the render completes (i.e. on the PC Poser freezes until the other flash app is terminated). Maybe on the Mac this translates to a time out.
No I haven't tried Semidieu, sounds very useful, I'm always loading the same sets.
Thanks

Hi Esther
Sorry didn't intend that point to be too serious (P8 has always been very slugish on my PC so any improvement looks good). Â With Flash removed it seemed quicker to load/display/move V4 but I did't do much more testing (no point without the library).
I get strange lags going from render to preview mode too - might test.
Don't know how to disable flash other than uninstall it.
Cheers
Mark

I have a similar problem, when a poser dialogue appears (e.g. delete figure prompt) poser hangs. Read somewhere this is a problem with flash. I tried updating flash but with no effect. Uninstalling flash gives you a super fast poser and no hanging problem but no library so no use. Only solution I have is to not to run other apps that are using flash. For example if I'm listening to an internet radio station via Chrome and poser hangs I can fix the problem by terminating chrome. Not tested other browsers, maybe they are ok.
MyCat - where did you get 8.0.3.11916 from ?

Animation sounded fun so had a go. Very basic - two spheres (planet + atmosphere) and three particle emitters. Explode modifier bit to regular in shape, maybe better texture would improve.Â

Sorry if I'm stating the obvious but don't forget imaging software. If you switch the camera to manual it may not have the contrast. saturation and sharpening modes you want. photoshop, photoshop elements and paintshop pro x are popular choices. If you in to taking lots of photos then maybe DxO might be an option to help with the work flow.
