Quote - Well, rigging the clothes can be done pretty easily in Poser 5 and above. You need to model the cloths to fit a particular character. (If you're using the Poser characters that is)
Export the figure you want to make clothes for to .obj in it's "Zero Pose" (Read up on the Joint Editor to do this) Bring the obj into your modeling app and build the clothes around it.
You can build the clothing in one piece, just make sure to group all the various body parts involved and name them the same as the internal names Poser gives them, like hip, abdomen, chest, rCollar, rShldr, etc. This is necessary so Poser will know which bones to apply to which group.
When you finish the model, export it (the clothing item without the original figure) to .obj and import that into Poser. Take it into the Setup room and load a figure just like you would in the Pose room. The bones of that figure will be applied to your model. Hit the grouping tool and it will automatically group the body parts to the appropriate bone (provided you have named the groups correctly.)
Close the grouping window and exit the Setup room. The clothes shouls then conform to that figure.
There are other odds and ends to do like deleting any morph targets and such but like ConnieKat said, getting into all that would be like a 20 page essay (more or less). But this is the basic procedure..
Good luck with it.
Thanks a lot! Your assistance is much appreciated.

Quote - What you need from your modelling program is the ability to model an object that you want, and to export an OBJ. It's been over a year since I touched blender, but as far as I remember it's quite capable of both.
UV mapping, texturing, grouping and rigging can be done in other utilities, and some in poser itself.
I have been doing some modeling and UV mapping in Blender lately. Mostly just somewhat easy objects like furniture (desks, shelves, etc.). Nothing like clothes before though. I have heard the learning curve in Blender is somewhat steep, but I should be able to figure out how to model clothes in it.
One of my ultimate goals (which will probably take me a million years to get good enough to do) is to create Boromir's costume from the Lord of the Rings movies. I've already modeled his sword, although it could use some work.

You would be correct in your assumption that I am new at this, and I just got Poser yesterday so you know I'm totally new with that. Didn't know I was asking an essay question. I guess I'm lucky I have your fine folks to help me out.
So if I understand correctly, I can use Blender then to model clothes then get them to work with the figure in Poser later. That was my main concern.
Thanks for the information.
Thread: Purchase recommendations? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - I may soon actually have money for the Poser habit, for the first time in years. I'd like to upgrade from Poser 5. Is it worth it to get Poser 7, at this point, or is it still too buggy?
I'm also thinking about upgrading my standard female from Vicky 1. This is probably a rather big question, but: what's the best female in Poserdom to consider, at this time? I'm mainly concerned about flexibility and good joint handling. I spend most of my Poser time fighting with bad joints, it seems.
Any suggestions?
You can get V3 for free here (among other characters): http://www.download.com/Poser-DAZStudio-3D-Models-Pack/3000-6677_4-10581779.html?tag=lst-0-5
That's for Windows. They have a download for Mac too if that's your thing.

For some reason the option to edit my thread wasn't available. Anyway, I don't believe I need assistance anymore. Someone from another forum helped me out.

Quote - You're really moving along. looks nice.
What seems odd to me on the cabinet. All the wood grain goes in the same direction. Shouldn't the upright's have the wood grain going up and down?Just something that stuck out to me. Still, it's a lot better than I can do.
Thanks.
You're probably right about the up and down parts. I just applied the same texture to the whole thing and didn't map the uprights separately. Maybe I'll get around to going back and fixing that.

Quote - Thanks very much! Ill give these excellent tips a try.
@Molina00, is this a fully morphable software of V3 so I can pose it first in P6 then export the poses or are these pre-posed examples?
Edited: never mind, I do see this seems to be the whole enchillada. Thanks again!
best,
vim
Glad I could help.

Quote - Hey, that stuff is looking really good. :)
Your lamp turned out very nice.
I think my favorite is your cabinet. I like the dark wood you select. Great job.
Thanks a lot, and thanks to you on the lamp. I know I never would have figured that out myself.
I think the cabinet might be my favorite too. I was going for kind of a dark, subdued look for the whole office theme so I thought the wood was nice.

Finally, my long awaited lamp is finished (for the most part). There is always some editing that can be done.
Many thanks to reddog for helping me through my texturing problems. Here is the lamp. If anyone has any suggestions please lmk.

As usual, modeled in Blender but textures added and rendered in Daz. Also bump maps applied to the shade and the decorated part of the stand.

Quote - I know what you mean, when I first started modeling I was always going - (Huh!?). learning curves can do that to ya, and when it comes to Blender. The learning curve is very huge. I'm just starting to get around in it, but I still have a lot to learn. Once I get this mapping thing down, I'm going to start on animating.
Blender is something I'm just coming back to. Getting tired of Windows always freezing up when I'm in the middle of something. I thought I would give Ubuntu Studio a try, I heard a lot of good things about it.
When you get done with your WIP, do a render with the XviD codec. So us people on dail-up can see it.
Uh, ok. Just one question. What's the "XviD codec"?
I wouldn't even want to think about animating. I have a hard enough time getting my UV mapping to turn out the way I want it to. I wouldn't think a free software would have such a big learning curve. I guess I'm wrong there.

Quote - Too cool, I would love to see it when you're done.
I just hope it will turn out half as cool as I have visualized. I have a habit of getting fancy projects into my head and either not having the skill to make it work, or have a bunch of problems and ultimately give up. I hate learning curves.
Today is another Blender hating day. lol
Just can't get the texturing on the lamp to render properly.

Quote - May be a light switche isn't such a good idea. When I think about it, a light switch should be by a door. :blushing:
Hah, too true. I may make a wall with a door if I decide to expand beyond just one room.
I'm working on a desk lamp now. Just need to get the texturing to where it shows the way I want in Daz. I was thinking of electrical sockets and such, and maybe some lamps on the walls somewhere.
My master plan involves adding some animated lightning flashes outside the window with Photoshop. Maybe a full fledged thunderstorm while I'm at it. That's a long ways off though at the rate I'm going.
Thanks for the replies.
