I say screw the Renderosity Free Stuff. Anyone who has free stuff to give away could just put it on a web site where people can go to see it. Then just tell folks where to find the site. I still can't get past the notion of Anton appointing himself DAZ spokesman, and also taking upon himself the role of Renderosity staff member.... He goes through Renderosity Free Stuff and dictates policy as well. Look for another round of honest free stuff providers dropping out.

Gee why does it look like Anton's presenting himself as both an official DAZ spokesman and Renderosity policy maker? You might want to think about that. The more Anton jumps into this type of thread, the more I wonder if I really want to do business with DAZ any more. Hey, of course, I don't agree with piracy. But I don't like bullies either. Heck, you guys talk like you still host the freebies. You don't. But right now you're making a lot of honest and generous people mad. Maybe you ought to think more before you adopt a policy. Or at least you should think more about what words you use. And please, Renderosity mods, do something to help enforce the distinction between yourself and DAZ. You don't want us to think Anton runs the show?

NO you are not a fool. You had some questions and hopefully got your answers. If not, ask again.

Go to Renderosity Free Stuff, and do a search for hogwarden (he's the creator of CorrectReference and PBooost). The history of bump maps is rather confusing. There was a time when DAZ distributed the ".bum" format of bump maps with their textures. My Vicky and Mike 2 textures came that way. Then suddenly, I bought Stephanie's textures, and they needed to be converted from jpg. I don't recall a readme file that gave that info. No one can document a set point in time where the bump map procedure changed. We were just automatically supposed to know "everyone does this." I just wish someone would invent an "addition" to the installation process that would automatically offer to convert the jpg's to bum format for you. Some installation procedures are capable of seeing which version of Poser you use. They do install the appropriate files for that version. They do ask you to click OK first.

You could try installing Poser on a different hard drive than where Windows is installed. In addition you could try cleaning out your temporary files. I never mess with swap files. According to many experts, Windows 2000 and XP do a more than sufficient job on their own. Also, don't forget to defrag your hard drive.

Anton, are you an official spokesman for DAZ? Are you autorized by DAZ to conduct business in this manner? You really are not doing DAZ any favors. OK, piracy is wrong, and I don't buy the creator's "excuse." People should know better. But Anton, you should know the correct way to handle such matters. If you're not authorized to speak for DAZ, then keep quiet.

You don't use CorrectReference when you use Poser. You fix the texture references, then you run Poser. You might want to spend the necessary time to fix all your texture references first, then fix each new item as you install it.

Of course, if you have Poser ProPack and Poser 5 you don't need to convert the jpg files. You just need to Correct the texture reference with CorrectReference. Gosh, there is no need to use a text editor when you have a program to do the work for you!

I've received information from many people that indicated their "new" copies of Poser 4 were already updated. In fact, many people have reported that their new copies of Poser 5 were already updated. Maybe people should check their exact version number before installing updates or service packs?!

The Poser 4.03 update has been around a couple years now. I would think anyone who recently got Poser would already have the "4.03" update incorporated into the "boxed" product?!

Geesh, just spend some time running CorrectReference to fix the problems with the texture references. The problem was caused by artists who didn't know enough to put things together correctly in the first place.

I think you are using Deep File Editor, a utility inside PBooost, rather than CorrectReference. (That is a separate program.) Get CorrectReference, and use it.
