i don't really like multiple runtimes but i do have one where i keep my files from past versions of poser. i call it downloads because i was thinking about putting downloads in it. and current is of course poser 7. what's curious is that like in older versions of poser if i use downloads runtime in the material room the material folder isn't on the condensed sheet. no biggy just curious.Computer Art by Charles McChesney

here's the povray. look at the hard stuff like the glass on the table to see the difference between the two. still both in my opinion both are excellent. to get a better view u can go to my gallery both images are posted and both images are quite large.Computer Art by Charles McChesney

someone here mentioned povray. u can use poseray (free) to convert poser files to povray (free). i think firefly and povray are both terriffic unfortunately developing the skills to becoming skilled at their use doesn't come over night. here's a firefly render.Computer Art by Charles McChesney

u can use wings 3d (it's free) there is even a tut at the top of the renderosity wings 3d forum that tells u how. i would suggest that u study how to use wings 3d magnets to help in deforming your mesh and keep ur vertices correct. it used to be that u could use amorphium it's always been tricky though the round off arithmetic between the two (poser and amorphium) doesn't work or something. argile sounds great could be a little less expensive though.Computer Art by Charles McChesney

i'm no python scriptor though i wish i were but u can go to the top of the first block in the material editor and press select all then copy then go to a different object click on the top of the firdst bar in the first block and paste and all your nodes and everything will be copied there just identical to the first.Computer Art by Charles McChesney

i kind of like sharecg. i think there are a lot of sites that have problems with cheating even if it's for unpaid hits. it seems that sites that offer free sevices whether it's chess, showing art and video, free websites and then offer some paid services too; all seem to wind up with a lot of cheating going on.Computer Art by Charles McChesney
Thread: Is postwork a dirty word? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
some contests don't permit postwork because they mean to measure how well the 3d app ur using works and how well u can use it. they usually don't permit any photography either and it makes sense because their end is to measure how well the app works and what the individual artist can do with it. i remember coming across one artist that was showing her work in a gallery made for poser. it didn't even look like she used any poser at all. there were a bunch of beautiful nude pictures of herself that looked like they were worked in with a lot of adobe work to look like they were made with poser. i evidently wasn't the only one that wondered about her work because some months later i looked at her work and instead of it being in the poser gallery it was in the photo gallery. poser 5 i think may have used photos for some of its textures and i wonder if they didn't take them out just because they were worried about the phot issue. many people i know when they show their work in the poser gallery at renderosity use photos as backgrounds and textures and do a lot of postwork as well. i certainly can see nothing wrong with it. i do think though u should be creating with the app whose gallery u r exhibbitting in and following their rules of sub mission.

Thread: How can anyone post poser figure as original work? | Forum: Contest Announcements
andy warhole went into a novelty store, saw a stuffed animal he liked, wrote his name on the label, thus making it his work of art ,and sold it for thousands. several artists commission artisans to create their masterpieces and make it their own sell it for thousands on their name; and the works go as their originals. i think any poser artist is ten times as creative as any of these. even if we are doing realistic art we are still living in the world of modern art. i say wake up and smell the coffee. for years now commercial artists making book covers, magazine covers, and cartoons have been using techniques (yes i mean people like norman rockwell) that have been bordering on digital artwork for years even before we had computers yet they have been worshipped by a public that didn't have a clue as to how these artisits created their work. the whole idea of poser was to create software that would give the average starving artist the where with all to compete with established artists who had staffs of models, photographers, an expensive wardrobe with real clothes to create their original works of art that were based on a myriad of poses and colr schemes that their models, directors, and photographers created for them to work from. ofcourse the average joe who could afford paints and a canvas could still do still lifes or a portrait of his girlfriend (which was usually from her highschool yearbook photo because she got tired of sitting for the real thing.) thank u poser for putting art back in the handfs of the talented. i see a lot of people doing pictures with poser who don't have talent and their work is awful; and then i see creative minds that can't model a cube come up with great beauty and i say their the artist and it should and does belong to them.
