I'm not sure if this is what you had in mind but here's my take on it. I didn't have much time so I obviously wasn't very thorough in colorizing the sky behind the trees but I think this is enough to give you the general idea:

Ah, OldHippie, I only saw your version when I scrolled the whole thing down. Didn't intend to plagiarize the idea. Just hope my version looks different enough. sorry...

Quote - I find the viewfinders on the point and shoots like sticking a needle in your eye.
Personally I wouldn't bother with it...
Uhm... I guess I agree with you. In my case, however, my son is 11and looking up to his Mommy very much. At this point he's only expressed an interest in photography because I do that (and I use a viewfinder on my Oly e-510). :-D
That's why I originally thought about buying him an Olympus SP-510. You know, to completely mimic he experience. ;-) I decided against it after holding the camera in my hand, though. Seemed a little sluggish and far to fragile for a boy with his temperament...

I just bought a Cannon PowerShot A570 IS as a Christmas gift for my son. It does have an image stabiliser, it works with rechargeable batteries (over 2000, preferably 2300 that's what I've been told - but I'm in Poland, we have a different electrical system). It also has all automatic settings, good autofocus (I'm thinking point-and-shoot easiness), is fairly resistant though plastic. It also has a nice LCD screen and a viewfinder and gives a variety of manual settings which is what I was looking for, hoping my son would take some interest in photography and may want to experiment later. :-D
Thread: Do you remember Christmas's past | Forum: Photography
Although in my country the Christmas preparations don't usually start earlier then, say, half of December, at my home we used to have an early start. Since both my Dad and I haven been music lovers, there was this competition between us, who'd be the first to start digging and listening to the classic Christmas stuff. You know, "White Christmas", "Jingle Bells", "Winter Wonderland", etc. Sometimes one of us would start towards the end of November.
Then, in December, when the shops started having all the Christmas decorations, we'd go once or twice (in the evening, to see all the lamps shine) to the city, to buy some new Christmas tree toys. Every year, we had to have the old ones (some dating back 20 years or so) and some new ones.
The actual Christmas tree decoration would take place on the 24th December, in the morning. The youngest in the family (me, for my entire childhood - these days it's my son) would be responsible for that - with the help of the rest of the family.
I live in Poland. We celebrate a special Supper on the 24th, traditionally with 12 dishes (though we rarely had that many - my family was small) and one empty place for an unexpected visitor who is supposed to be honored in every home around here. After Supper, there would be time for Christmas gifts, placed under the tree before we sat at the table.
Though as I said, my family was small (my parents, my grandma until she died and me), I'd get like 10-20 gifts every Christmas. Mostly small ones, with one or two more serious, expensive ones, but it was the act of unpacking them that really counted. Not to mention, I'd get usually what I'd been dreaming about, or close enough.
I'd be the Santa, for the whole family, sitting under the tree and picking one pack at a time, reading out who's it for. Everyone waited to see what it was before the ritual "Thank you, Santa!" was said and I'd pick the next package.
These days it's my son and of course he's the one who gets most of the gifts. LOL! But my Dad is still with us and he makes sure everyone gets their share (I'm still his little girl, in a way) of gifts and joy.
Thread: Photo Gallery Screensaver | Forum: Photography
I installed it. Hey, this is really cool! :-D When you posted it, I thought I can do it with the system screen saver, just putting pu my folder there. But this is a virtual tour around a gallery. You can see your photos hanging on the walls. That's neat.
Thanks for posting it.

I use cable. I just never took the card out from the camera and I have the cable right next to the computer so it's a matter of laziness in my case. :-D

Thread: Hacking a JPEG file ??? | Forum: Photography
I will when I start taking photos again, I just never thought about it before. Mine was lost somewhere along the way from the camera to the computer but I've found the way to save it through my Olympus software now.
As to PSP - I'm afraid that the use of any compression will result in loosing this data. The only way a PSP saves exif is if you use plain and simple "Save As..." with no compression at all.
Thread: Hacking a JPEG file ??? | Forum: Photography
Perhaps an upgrade? Don't know about PSP 7 but my version 9 is perfectly capable of saving exif.
As far as I know, you can add some description to the file manually but that is limited to the author's name and some comment. This can be done in the system by editing file properties. I've no idea if this would be saved on the Web, though. Never tried it.

Sure it is! LOL! But... this is my photo, isn't it? I thought I was to start Simon this week, not DITI? Or am I not thinking straight?
Still, thanks for the entrance. :-D
