Info,
not to " kill the messenger" or feed the flames, but....
As negative as you are on anything from Eovia, why haven't you moved on?
If I thought a company had broken trust with me or other users, I wouldn't hang out in forums for programs I no longer owned or wanted to use.
What are you trying to achieve here with your posts? (I know you didn't start this thread but you seem the most upset by this)
If you are trying to make Eovia a better company wouldn't a more productive thing to do, be to email them and tell them your concerns over the lack of complete information on their website? Maybe you have already done this and could share their reply (or lack of reply) to you. There is nothing wrong with bringing up legitimate issues that should be addressed but to keep dragging them on with no objective other than to bash the company seems like a waste of time.
I'm not going to explain, defend or excuse the way Eovia does it's business, that's their job.
I don't work for them but I do own their stuff & have had some things I rendered used by them. In the years I have been dealing with them they have been up front and honest with me in every case. Maybe I am an exception and not the rule, but I don't think so.
I own a few programs from bigger developers (Alias & Avid being two) and the level of support out of Eovia has been on par or above what I have been able to get from either of those larger companies. The others charge more for their programs (and in theory are worth more) but also charge a fee for support.
No company is perfect but I don't see Eovia in the same light as I assume you do from your posts.

What is the url to the "made with Carrara gallery"? I could not find it. I am pretty sure Marcel knows what Eovia is doing with his image. To see what was done in Carrara for that image look here: http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=205705 There are not too many things in 3d that are 100% made in any one application. mdcThread: playing with toon! pro | Forum: Carrara

Those look really great. What kind of render times do they generate? Heavy hits like blurry reflections or high quality GI? mdc

As soon as we get the report on you back from Homeland Security you should be approved. I just checked and there are no pending members waiting to get in. Are you in? If not send me the email info you used to sign up with and I'll find out what's up. mdc aka assistant Carrara - yahoo list mod.
Thread: Playing with some new stuff in CS4. | Forum: Carrara
Gweb I am not sure if I understand exactly what you mean by "IK having dynamics". Are you asking if IK will react with Carraras physics engine? If that is your question, the new IK setting tool will place an IK target at the end of The chain and have the last bone set up to track it. Its a null or helper object and has no geometry so physics will not move it directly. You can however place an object like a sphere or cube primitive in the same position, scale it down to the same size, & add the track behavior to the IK target so it will in turn track the sphere/cube. Then you can apply directional force (physics) to the stand in object & the IK chain will follow along. mdc

Brian, I wont argue with you that Carrara 4s IK toolset is much better than Carrara 3s. It is faster, easier to use, produces better results & has options that C3 does not have (IK terminator) Farther up in this thread, for this specific rope example, it was asked if this could be done in C3, you said no I gave it a try & it seemed to work for me. I dont know if open discussion is arguing or not, but it is fun. :>) Did you open the C3 file I emailed you? It works in both C3 & 4. mdc Your solution to the Maxon demo is a good one.

Nice rope demo Brian, good to see the new tools doing some neat stuff. You are a little off on your point of not being able to do the same thing in C3. Carrara 4 does all the grunt work of setting up the IK, adding the tracking target and setting the joint constraints, but all of those are available in C3.(Target helper object on both ends with the last bone in each branch tracking them.) I think Carraras new IK strength is its IK Terminator that keeps the IK from feeding back into bones that you dont want it to. Along with drag and drop setup and better IK solving over all. mdc

Changing the rotation point will be very useful for creating morph targets in Carrara 4. An option I didn't know the VM had. nice one, thanks mdc
Thread: Physics freezes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | Forum: Carrara
If you want to take some of the stress off your CPU "bake" the physics onto your text objects before you do any rendering. Run your animation to frame 180 in the Assembly room. All the calculations will be done. Change the motion for each object from physics to explicit. This will set up keys for all the motion and the down force can be deleted. CPU will just have to take care of the lighting/texturing at render time. Don't know if it will solve your problem but it should get to the freeze point alot faster. mdc
Thread: help!! object from Amapi 7 to Carrara 3 appears rough | Forum: Carrara
How are you moving it to Carrara? Try this: Flatten all the DG and resave the file to a new name as an Amapi Pro "a3p" file. Bring it into Carrara 3 using the "Open" command. Should be smooth mdc
Thread: Assigning a shader to grouped objects | Forum: Carrara
You should buy shader ops but..... Make a copy of the scene (or use the original)& have just the eagle in it. Use the remove unused shaders option to clear out any duplicate shaders. Delete all the shaders in the copy scene until just the defalt shader is left. Adjust this to your metallic taste or drop one of the presets on it in the shader room. Everything will be shaded the same. If you need to bring your chrome eagle back into the first scene (with other objects and shaders) rename that one shader to something other than default and save the eagle to the browser so you can drop it into the scene. mdc DCG plug-in is much faster and does much more than this
Thread: Rotation surprises | Forum: Carrara
Another option that will work (in some cases) is to add a Rotate modifier. You select the + icon under the modifier tab and scroll down to the bottom, it is under Basic Deformations header. The slider only goes from 180 to 180 but you can type (almost) any value in the numerical box and it will work. The only problem with this is some funkyness with the point of rotation, you might need to group your object with a Target Helper Object (null) and apply the rotate deformer to the group to get a more complex object to rotate the way you want it to. mdc
